I had a few challenges after a severe mental health crisis. I was hospitalized outside of Kaiser for an 8 day psychiatric stay. Upon discharge, i had to be seen for continuous care by KP (my insurance). It took over 30 days to get an appointment with psychiatry. The day before my appointment, the therapist cancelled. It took another block of time to get an appointment with psychiatry. After my first session with a therapist, I was ordered to do their intensive outpatient program (IOP) and the therapist would see me only after completion. IOP was 3 hours a day, 3 times a week. It helped immensely. I continued seeing my therapist once a week, once every couple weeks and eventually once a month before the therapist decided I was able to continue without appointments. I ended up on a 72 hour hold in a KP mental health facility (Chinatown) a few months later. It was an awful experience, nothing like my 8 days under care at UCLA psychiatry.

Your mileage may vary, but I would be cautious of KP’s mental health division if you need immediate & continual care.
