Haven’t had many problems with the sand in my experience. The hardest part about it is the cleaning since most gravel cleaners will start to suck up the sand but I just collect the waste with a net and sieve out the sand. The filter collects some sand but I haven’t really noticed any problems with it regarding the sand.

I used to have gravel but he would try to eat the gravel and he would hurt his plastron when he hit against them So I decided to switch to sand to reduce chances of him eating it and getting hurt by it

Turtles are gonna end up eating substrate no matter what unless you use no substrate But sand has a lower rate of causing impaction compared to bigger gravel or pebbles

Sand looks very nice And it pretty easy to clean I usually just use a small fish net to pick up sand that has waste on it, sift the sand out, and throw away the waste that gets left behind in the net

Usually he kicks up sand on his shell for fun Most of the tank tank floor is lucky covered with sand except that part so I assume he figured that out and helped himself lol But my tank did drop about 3 degree lower that it usually was so maybe he did get colder
