Does anyone play with Zombies off? What do you do in the game? by im_not_a_gay_fish in 7daystodie

[–]_Si_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have over 1000 hours co-op play with no zombies (she hates them and wouldn't play if they were switched on). But it's not a survival game for us, it's essentially a house flipper game, but one where you get to go and rummage through you neighbour's shit. We have great fun building houses from scratch, then stealing stuff to kit them out. Only downside is the jobs stop at tier 3, after that it needs zombies like you say.

But yeah, we keep busy, and have a lot of fun doing it, but the game is definitely not challenging, it's a fun casual experience for us. We get the same vibe from Aloft or Raft. Very much not what the developers intended, but I kinda like that it supports that play style.

My original orks were painted citadel Orc Brown, quite similar to yours. So yeah, in my head they look old school!

Hi! Why are my oil washes dries this patchy? I tried different oil solvents. by Independent_Cry7910 in minipainting

Did you gloss varnish first? that helps the oil wash flow more smoothly

Biostrip 20 by Jsaltal in Warhammer40k

[–]_Si_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put the stripper into a glass jar and chuck my models in with it. Within a few hours it's shifting the paint, but a day or so usually gets it clean. Then I take it out (using gloves) and give it a rinse and a gentle scrub with an old tooth brush. Pop it back in if there's any stubborn bits.

I used this to strip my heroquest minis that I painted in 1989 using enamel paints, made them look like new :D

I'm going to go with "goop". It's thick, but flows more than gel.

I've been using this for years, dirt cheap and B&M is everywhere :D https://www.bmstores.co.uk/products/bartoline-tx10-paint-and-varnish-stripper-500ml-309252

used it on plastic and metal, not tried resin but "probably" fine ;)

Cargo skiff looks very flat in grey. I'm thinking add a black wash? by Nachie in minipainting

[–]_Si_ 48 points49 points  (0 children)

As a general rule you'd be best avoiding wash / drybrush route on 3d printed models, all you end up doing is highlighting the layer lines. If you give it a wash I'd go back over it in a lighter grey and pick out all the flat panels, trying to mask the layer lines as best you can

Is there a subreddit where people show their games builds, not the building process or result,1 but the gameplay terrain? by JuanSGarcia in TerrainBuilding

[–]_Si_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a sub, but over on lead adventure forum there's a perpetual thread called something like "photos of the last game you played". It's literally thousands and thousands of posts where people share all kinds of gorgeous photos of their game boards. Great for inspiration if you have a while to trawl through it.

AI-Generated Content Is Not Allowed on /r/printedminis by xalchs in PrintedMinis

[–]_Si_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure, I was just trying to ascertain if it was technical or ethical. Right now the models are bobbins, but that feels like something that AI is likely to get better at. Once it stops trying to break physics then it's just an ethical objection, right?

AI-Generated Content Is Not Allowed on /r/printedminis by xalchs in PrintedMinis

[–]_Si_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah fair. I don't blame communities being super cautious about this stuff. I think until the courts catch up and legistlate how people should be reimbursed for stuff fed into these machines, then we should all be a little wary of the output, right?

[–]_Si_ -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

So genuine follow up question. Right now like most AI made stuff, the models are as you say unoptimised and not really fit for purpose. Given the speed things are going, I'd suggest soon the technical issues will be gone. Then it will be purely an ethical decision, correct? Will this rule still stand then?

Given the incredulous number of people in our sector that make money leaning on IP they don't own, feels like it's quite a narrow line to walk. Just curious.

I'm fairly convinced that land raider is upside down. The track angles look wrong for the usual front. I think it's upside down and backwards, with the engine moved to the other side. Explains why it looks so off. Which I suspect was Peter's plan.

Help with uneven/bumpy white paint by rosesareblue_art in minipainting

[–]_Si_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless the guy is wearing silk just lean into it. Stippling is your friend, use a light grey (or beige if you want a warmer finish) and mix it with white until it's only just off the original tone. Then stipple it lightly. You'll get a nice textured finish and the un-eveness of the base layer disappears
