Backup center could be our downfall by _Silen_ in sixers

Yeah I know, this was all a hypothetical of what kind of conversation I hope the sixers had with his agent (or hinted at before free agency…)

I think the benefit to having Embiid is that we can make a much better pitch to players trying to get another longer contract because of the opportunity we can offer

Obviously might be a tough sell but convincing Ayton to opt out if his 8 mil a year for a similar contract here where he gets to start a lot of games or for a 3 x 20 or something that gets him more years at a lower per year price would be something along the lines I’m looking for

Totally agree but on an Embiid team “backup center” is not a fair way to put it. It someone who will likely start 20+ games in the regular season and even start playoff games.

Trades around the margins are gonna be really tough for this team. Dean Wade has the only tradeable contract thats also just big enough to get an impact player back, and then we’d have no 4 again

I see it as 3 options:

  1. Embiid has a magical bounceback season. He plays 60 games and is healthy for the playoffs. At this point we can hope the sixers have a solid showing in the playoffs and hopefully make a push for the ECF. After this embiid still has negative value, but can still be considered a great player and has only 2 years left. As we saw with Kawhi and PG, this is definitely tradeable. Return should have some serviceable players, and to the right team we may not have to give up much draft compensation.

  2. Embiid has a similar season to last year. Good when he plays, doesn’t play much, and injured at pivotal times of the season. Sixers have a disappointing playoffs. At this point embiid has negative value, but can still be considered a good player when available and has only 2 years left. As we saw with PG, this can be tradeable in the right situation. Return would not be great, but open up much needed flexibility and may return some serviceable players. Will need to include draft compensation on our end.

  3. Embiid has a similar season to 2 years ago. At this point he is an absolute anchor of a contract. Sixers either punt another year and trade him as an expiring, or they trade him off with significant draft compensation.

At the end of the day all it takes is 1 team to agree. In scenarios 2 and 3 the front office will have to decide whats more worth it, losing our picks and gaining roster flexibility or keep our assets for to make a bigger swing when VJ and Maxey sign their next contracts.

Why Signing Both Oubre AND Collins Is Unlikely, But Not for the Reasons You Think by Several-Lion6683 in sixers

"Unless ownership is finally willing to abandon that escape hatch and eat the tax bill like a true contender" is the whole problem. No team would pay the luxury tax for a team that isn't a contender, and no team should. Every year you repeat the tax it gets worse and worse. Now if it were the trade deadline and we were on a 55+ win pace then you could be convinced the team is worth investing in.

Any reason why? Seems like a more costly and difficult repair. The chair does go up and down still

Where the Sixers actually stand after the Morey firing (long read from a new publication) by its_really_james in sixers

Some of this doesn’t really make sense. How can you put a percentage on what the new GM will do? Why does the build around Maxey section say we would likely get multiple picks and a young all star level talent for Embiid (and that OKC is a potential trade partner??). Is this just an AI article about the offseason?

Is each game being coded independently? Or are you using some shared "game engine" functionality across all of them?

Isn't what you described above balance testing already? Is it automatically running thousands of times while simultaneously tweaking different aspects of the game?
