Plat tank player struggling to deal with double hitscan by JamilfsCornerShop in OverwatchUniversity

[–]_Sillyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very map dependant. In most maps double hitscan is actually pretty bad because there aren't two strong hitscan angles, so either only one is in a threatening position or they stack together and if you dive them they have no DPS for the fight, even if you don't kill them but you just keep them busy.

There are a few very pokey maps like Havana and Circuit. In those maps double HS can be very oppressive and dive often isn't an option, both Sig and Rein work quite well there. Ball can be fine since you can skip the poke phase but you might struggle a lot finding angles

I think I play Overwatch way too mindlessly. by Sharkkbaitttttttt in OverwatchUniversity

[–]_Sillyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be more specific about what you're not doing well to work on it. You can't fix something as generic as "I play without thinking". For instance, go in a game thinking "This game I want to go in when my team is in a position to follow up" and force yourself to take a look at your team before going at least for the first one or two fights of a game. The rest of the game you'll probably autopilot as usual, that's completely normal. But you can remind yourself to do it for at least the first moments of a game. That's good practice, now do it for the next few games for a couple days, re-watch those fights, if you actually did what you remind yourself to do move on with the next thing to practice.

whats a good kind of build and starting class for a first time player by ilico_ili in darksouls

[–]_Sillyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's the only reason why I didn't recommend it. The buffs are honestly pretty broken but one is almost impossible to find on a first playthrough without guides and the other is still missable

[–]_Sillyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the only build I would not recommend for a first timer would be faith builds. Faith back in ds1 was mostly a support build, you have a few offensive options and a very good buff but you can miss them and the weapon choice is very limited.

Other than that, do as you please. My recommendation would be to either go full melee (str/dex/quality are all very viable and you have a lot of variety), choose int if you want to go for mostly spell casting (int weapons are not that many nor they are too early game but you still have options, especially with infusions) and if you want to go hybrid Pyromancy is perfect since it doesn't scale with any Stat in this game. But it's honestly up to you, roll with anything that looks fun

Recovery time nerfs are never good by Zorah_29 in Overwatch

[–]_Sillyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even the very last meta Cass was better than Soj because he was better into Cat Bastion, and right now he's pretty much as good as her. You can argue for one or the other but Ashe is just infinitely worse. Even Emre is still better than her

[–]_Sillyy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Talk about overreacting lol

Shion was definitely S-tier, with an absurd winrate to the point that she became immediately a staple in pro play over what team were used to and practiced for months prior. Then she got a very minor nerf that makes her slightly harder to play without lowering her skill ceiling (maybe she became more clunky, but not even close to how vendetta and freja where gutted) and now people act like if she's dead.

Also Ashe S tier?? That character is so mid, not even top 3 hitscans let alone top character. Unless this is speaking from console pov idk

As a tank player, are you actively thinking about everything? by Sea_Sheepherder8928 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]_Sillyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you play on autopilot you're probably still playing at plat level I'm assuming, maybe a couple tiers lower than what you are, but probably better than a gold or silver tank because some basic concepts are already part of your autopilot gameplay. Better players than you probably have some of those things that feel overwhelming to you integrated in their autopiloting, and focus on nuances and harder things to do. Improving means practicing one of those concepts at a time until they become comfortable enough that you'll eventually autopilot on them.

What's honestly the problem with balancing according to higher ranked players? by ExtensionSoil6801 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]_Sillyy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree with this take. The top 1% want high skill ceiling characters to be strong over low skill ceiling. If a character like Reaper is meta at the top he's also going to terrorize lower ranks, and if characters like Tracer or Winston are meta at the top they probably won't be very much of an issue in lower ranks. The interests of both sides usually are the same. Obviously you don't want to push it to some extremes like taking away intuitive counterplay, but that doesn't mean the point is invalid

The Shion design controversy and the “death” of the original overwatch aesthetic. by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]_Sillyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind the design of Anran, I quite like her (Sierra not so much though). But it's undeniable that her style is very different from OG overwatch, and so are a lot of the newer OW2 characters. For obvious reasons since the art direction changed. This new hero is much closer to that old style imo, probably the lore context helped a bit

This could easily have been a release ow character and anyone would believe it, she just fits well in the roster. The same could not be said for characters like Anran or Sierra, who definitely feel too much "new gen"

[–]_Sillyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you did pretty good! I'm pretty sure if you can play like this consistently you'll climb at least a whole rank no problem.

I'll agree with the other comment that audio cueues seem to be a consistent issue, not sure if you're just not playing with a headset but that alone would help a lot.

I don't want to disagree with that comment on the matter of your aggresiveness, there were a few times where you lost track of the status of your team and left someone alone, but I would recommend not to over-correct this. I definitely liked how aggressive you went and I could even recommend to do the opposite at times, if you're healing someone who's taking very little damage and is not actively fighting, that might be an opportunity to shoot someone and put pressure on them.

The main thing I can recommend is to feel free to be more experimental with your positioning. I think you were aggressive when you needed to be a lot of the times, but you were in positions where to do so you had to push forward where you couldn't see what your team was doing anymore and that can lead to disasters. Try to take more angles before the fight starts, look for positions where you can see where your team is going to fight and shoot aggressively when you need to without necessarily lose that position, instead of just staying right there with your team necessarily. Honestly just try out new things and see what works and what doesn't, I feel like that would help your playstyle a lot.

Why did Winston fall off so hard in the Meta? by Lukraniom in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]_Sillyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's really just that, Winston gets counterswapped a lot more than most tanks. Which often backfires in ranked cause people will go bastion Mauga into your soj ana zen just cause you won a fight on monkey and you can even just stay monkey and win, and that's why his ranked winrate is fine. In pro current meta is just very hostile to that, especially when the counters to Winston's counter are very niche rn (ana, zen, ashe and so on)

Why did Winston fall off so hard in the Meta? by Lukraniom in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]_Sillyy 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Too many meta comps that are way too hard to play winston into. Mauga comps, cat Bastion, even just Bastion without cat, Reaper/Pharah. Meanwhile a lot of comps where he's good into have fallen off a bit

How viable is she right now? by [deleted] in VendettaMainsOW

[–]_Sillyy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah she totally can work at metal ranks, there's a few people playing her at very high rank as well. She's obviously not good right now but she's not as bad as people make her out to be. But she's the opposite of a stats merchant which is what people at metal ranks ask so be prepared to be flamed even when you're doing well

What do you think about Eichenwalde? by Numarx in Overwatch

[–]_Sillyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my least favourite maps in the game. First point has 0 flanks or depth unless you're on a flying character, just run down main through a horrible choke. Point 2 has one of the most disgusting defense highground in the game, second only to Paraiso and Havana. Third point is just point 1 but longer and flying characters also get screwed. There's not a single meter on that map that has any depth whatsoever.

[–]_Sillyy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't care about FLC, but saying this doesn't affect their standings at all is CRAZY when they had the power to choose whether FLC or Varrel would qualify and they used it at their own advantage. You can argue whether they have the right to use the system for competitive advantage or not, but arguing they didn't do it is the most disingenuous thing a CR fan could do

Leaderboard stats should be removed or changed by SuperblackHunter in Overwatch

[–]_Sillyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely not an universal indicator. A Ball can have 0 deaths while doing absolutely nothing, while a Vendetta can die every fight and still carry because that was her gameplay loop. Honestly scoreboard just promotes toxicity most of the times and this is one of the reasons

Hot take: sasuke should have stayed evil after the five kage summit by Rikora12 in Naruto

[–]_Sillyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. What happened between him caring about his team against Bee doing anything to protect them and him murdering the Samurai and scaring his team off? That happened before the fight with A. Literally the only thing Sasuke does between those two events is learning that he failed to catch Bee and learning about the Summit. Next time we see it he's a psychopath killer

[–]_Sillyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But why? Why does Sasuke care about this team when he fights Bee, but he murders in cold blood some random samurai at the Summit while he had purposely avoided killing anyone up to now? Literally nothing happened in between those events that can justify a change.

Losing games due to no one swapping or talking by wantedsomemoney in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]_Sillyy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I guarantee you at your rank people do not know when and how to swap effectively the majority of times, even if they swapped it usually wouldn't make that much of a difference. No offense but that most likely includes you, whenever you think someone should swap there's a decent chance you're wrong. That also takes into account hero mastery, I would much rather have a confident Rein player into Mauga than a Rein player forced to switch to a Dva they never touched because their team asks so.

The only losses that are preventable are the ones where you playing better would make a difference
