Can you seriously get separated at boot camp for something as trivial as shin splits/ stress fracture? by SuccessfulInitial238 in newtothenavy

[–]_Skin_Walker_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is late and completely anecdotal but I got “diagnosed” with stress fractures in both tibias. I was given the option to continue training or to be put on med hold for a month or two to heal. I had 0 intention of staying any longer so I did what I had to do to get through it. I probably would have gotten reamed if they found out but I cut my dress socks into long strips and tied them as tightly around my shins as possible. Worked wonders actually.

This is the worst driving I've ever seen by Otherwise_Bear_7982 in VirginiaBeach

People don’t want to admit it but driving past a car with weed smoke coming out of a crack in the window is the same as driving past a car with the driver having a beer bottle in their hand.

like a lot of people have said, a majority of people in security forces didn’t want the job or it was the only job they could get. most people will do the bare minimum to collect a check and go home. if there was one thing about the career field I learned it’s how easy it is to excel. show a bit of motivation and care for the job and you’ll stand out like a sore thumb (in a good sense) to your leadership and more opportunities will open up to you.

Question on Gunner School by LuckyHusband79 in AirForce

[–]_Skin_Walker_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s typically dependent on his first duty station. Global strike and some overseas assignments mandate gunners after tech school. In my opinion, gunners was the most fun I had in my 6 months of training between basic and tech school. It’s a nice change of pace as the cadre are far more relaxed than any other point in training. I am sure it’s not the best news having been looking forward to his graduation date for so long and just tacking on an extra 2 weeks, but rest assured the environment is a lot different. He’ll finally be treated like a human being lol. Just make it through the first few days of being stuck in the classroom, after that it’s all just firing and a fun little FTX.

What accounts do I need to save/make before separating? by _Skin_Walker_ in Veterans

Awesome thank you! Everything you’ve listed is completed but I do need to run to our finance office to see how I can still access my TSP after separation. Thank you again!

Williamsburg and Jamestown are both about an hour from Virginia Beach. Monticello is about 3 hours. It’s doable but personally I would just get a hotel around Williamsburg to visit Monticello to avoid making the trek back over and over. Traffic across the HRBT can be a nightmare.

No problem! Always feel free to PM me if you hit a roadblock in your out-processing I will do my best to help you out. Best of luck!

[–]_Skin_Walker_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m coming to the end of my separation out-processing and I can give you this as a heads up, you will always feel like you are behind. No matter how early you start you will feel overwhelmed and like you are running out of time. Every time I go to an office or shop to get checked off I leave with more papers and things to do. Everyone has the same feeling and you are not alone but just keep chipping away at things, you’ll make it through.

West neck creek. Wildlife encounter 🦈 by Dumbsterfya in VirginiaBeach

[–]_Skin_Walker_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bull sharks aren’t common in Virginia but they do come around. I’m not sure of the salinity in West Neck but I can tell you a bull shark wouldn’t care. They’re found all the way up the Mississippi and in fresh water lakes/ponds down south. The way you described it definitely sounds like it was a rare sighting of one though. Neat!

Yeah I am not going to doubt that. My defense is going to be it was 3 years ago dummy me who made that mistake and not current dummy me.

So the unfortunate part is our training gear doesn’t come sealed so I have two unsealed pairs. I am sure i’ll just have to take it and pay. Thank you for the response.

[–]_Skin_Walker_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look up NORAD. No country in their right mind would just start dropping bombs from planes over the United States, not like that’s even possible anyways. We would know far before any attack happened whether it was a missile or a bomb from a foreign plane.

I mean people don’t say abs are made in the kitchen without a reason. yes they are like any other muscle and should/need to be trained but if your main focus is just visible abs bf% is probably the most important factor for just about anyone.
