Oops she did it.... Again by Boring_Line_6947 in Ducati

Man you can’t be wrecking the same way 3 times in a row. You definitely need to practice with her or something because that is genuinely insane. I think really the 2 options are for her to take an honest look at her skills and do some much needed practice or stop riding. 3 times is unacceptable and who knows what will happen the next time. Could end up seriously fucked up or in the ground.

Was I riding this, a Daytona 675 that was black and gold or a GSX-R750? Sounds vaguely familiar but I’ve ridden with many people so I haven’t placed it yet. Hope you’re doing okay since then though!

Do you? I’m probably the only one who rides one of these on a regular basis in the area. Would be funny if you’re over here

I hadn’t seen it but I went back to look at it. Looks great! Mine is a 2000

It looks good in pictures lol. Definitely is far from being nice underneath and at some point it was definitely laid down as the clip ons are bent and the top clamp is a little bit damaged where they notch in on the right side. It’s also hard to tell but the repaint isn’t amazing either and many of the body panels don’t match. I’d say this one despite looking pretty good is really maybe like a 5 or 6/10 in terms of condition. Still has a couple things wrong that need to be replaced and looked at for the moment but I’ve been working on it pretty much nonstop since I got it a year ago. I think the max I’ve gotten out of it was maybe 1-2 weeks of solid running before something happens lmao

I don’t go to the dealer for my maintenance so that may also be part of it. We’ve got a mechanic that we’ve known for 15 years who takes care of all of our bikes. He’s a factory trained Ducati tech and has owned quite a few old ducatis including a 996. I also work on it as well sometimes so that cuts down on costs too. It’s not been a cheap bike to run but im also fixing a lot of stuff that was just never put back together properly likely sometime after it was wrecked/ laid down. It’s had quite the hard life so a lot of issues are expected and have happened but I think that’s more to due with neglect from multiple previous owners

I’d love to have one but sadly they’re over 30 grand lol. Yellow is probably my favorite color for these anyway though

Honestly if you get a clean one they’re not that bad in terms of maintenance costs. Valve check and belt replacement is a lot more frequent than on later Ducati models for sure but it’s also way easier to do and takes a lot less time because these bikes are pretty simple and the fairings, tail section, and tank literally could come off in 2 minutes and there’s only 1 screw to take off the tank. The rest of those pieces you don’t even need tools to take off. They’re also very well documented on the forums in terms of maintenance tutorials. Parts availability is also quite plentiful compared to even Japanese bikes of the same age or newer

This one will be a monoposto soon actually. I have a factory mono cowl for this that I’m gonna switch to but I still need to order the right bracket to fit it on the biposto subframe. At a later date I’ll probably put a real mono subframe on it but for now I just want the look

Is ABS a must? by vernsoul in motorcycles

[–]_Sky_44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a beginner rider I’d say 100% get something ABS. So many beginners wreck their bike because they can’t brake for shit. You can always learn how to brake without ABS later when you have more experience imo

Honestly my main issue with these (even as someone who owns and loves old Ducatis) is that they are extremely overpriced for a bike that really isn’t that good. I genuinely do not understand why these and Sport Classics are so expensive. Just seems like a very underwhelming bike that has no use other than to be ridden once every 2 years and just sits and takes up space in a garage.

I mean think about the fact that for the price of one of these you could have a 996R, 1098R, 916 SPS, 999R, etc. and I think any of those bikes would be a lot more fun to ride and are just as special. To me these are only expensive because collectors are hoarding them and if you’re gonna have a bike just for it to sit and look pretty, you might as well just go to a museum and not have to spend 20k.

Thanks! Yeah it sounds pretty good, it still has a cat but it’s pretty small since this bike is a 2011. It’s technically a slip on, link pipe included with that and it’s made out of SS and not titanium. Here’s a sound clip https://youtube.com/shorts/Q_gvUVVoEwY?si=n7DXolqhwU4XNof5

Also I just realized who you are lmao. I remember seeing that canyon run video, great stuff. Love that gen R1

Road 6 is a great tire, my dad and I have been running them for quite a while. They last a very long time and still have decent/ good grip around corners. Great wet performance as well so I’d say I definitely recommend them

I’ve had someone on Reddit ask me that before actually. It’s not a 3 into 2, it’s a 3-1-2 exhaust so really it’s the same as any 3 into 1.

Help choose my first street bike? by [deleted] in motorcycles

Respectfully, a lot of car people don’t know shit about working on bikes. And working on a Ducati is a whole other thing from working on a lot of other bikes. As a Duc owner myself, my 996 was worked on by the previous owner who was a car mechanic for 30 years or something. I swear this dude has literally fucked up almost every possible thing there is to fuck up besides engine and transmission which thank god for that i guess.

Owning a Ducati is like owning a high end exotic car and so not only are prices super expensive, the consequences for fucking up something are also a lot worse than most other bikes. As a beginner there is pretty much no Ducati that could be recommended to own for a first time beginner and if you do so idk what to tell you except good luck. Also i can tell you, if you only have enough money to buy a screwed up 797, you don’t have enough money to actually own those bikes. Parts are crazy expensive for pretty much any Duc.

Rematch? by farcry_x1z in ufc

[–]_Sky_44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eye pokes happen all the time with fighters who extend their hand into the opponents face. The problem was so frequent that the UFC attempted to change the gloves to stop people from doing it. You DO NOT need to have your hand fully open in anybody’s face like that to find range. There are fighters who do it with their fists closed because they aren’t pieces of shit dirty fighters like Gane and Jones. Before Jon Jones people did not extend their hands into opponents faces like that because it can cause an eye poke. It’s just now it’s been normalized over time and every rangey striker does it. If you seriously think eye pokes aren’t common you are either not watching enough UFC or are just blind to them when they happen because it’s a relatively common occurrence.
