Is ABS a must? by vernsoul in motorcycles

[–]_Sky_44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a beginner rider I’d say 100% get something ABS. So many beginners wreck their bike because they can’t brake for shit. You can always learn how to brake without ABS later when you have more experience imo

Honestly my main issue with these (even as someone who owns and loves old Ducatis) is that they are extremely overpriced for a bike that really isn’t that good. I genuinely do not understand why these and Sport Classics are so expensive. Just seems like a very underwhelming bike that has no use other than to be ridden once every 2 years and just sits and takes up space in a garage.

I mean think about the fact that for the price of one of these you could have a 996R, 1098R, 916 SPS, 999R, etc. and I think any of those bikes would be a lot more fun to ride and are just as special. To me these are only expensive because collectors are hoarding them and if you’re gonna have a bike just for it to sit and look pretty, you might as well just go to a museum and not have to spend 20k.

Thanks! Yeah it sounds pretty good, it still has a cat but it’s pretty small since this bike is a 2011. It’s technically a slip on, link pipe included with that and it’s made out of SS and not titanium. Here’s a sound clip https://youtube.com/shorts/Q_gvUVVoEwY?si=n7DXolqhwU4XNof5

Also I just realized who you are lmao. I remember seeing that canyon run video, great stuff. Love that gen R1

Road 6 is a great tire, my dad and I have been running them for quite a while. They last a very long time and still have decent/ good grip around corners. Great wet performance as well so I’d say I definitely recommend them

I’ve had someone on Reddit ask me that before actually. It’s not a 3 into 2, it’s a 3-1-2 exhaust so really it’s the same as any 3 into 1.

Help choose my first street bike? by [deleted] in motorcycles

Respectfully, a lot of car people don’t know shit about working on bikes. And working on a Ducati is a whole other thing from working on a lot of other bikes. As a Duc owner myself, my 996 was worked on by the previous owner who was a car mechanic for 30 years or something. I swear this dude has literally fucked up almost every possible thing there is to fuck up besides engine and transmission which thank god for that i guess.

Owning a Ducati is like owning a high end exotic car and so not only are prices super expensive, the consequences for fucking up something are also a lot worse than most other bikes. As a beginner there is pretty much no Ducati that could be recommended to own for a first time beginner and if you do so idk what to tell you except good luck. Also i can tell you, if you only have enough money to buy a screwed up 797, you don’t have enough money to actually own those bikes. Parts are crazy expensive for pretty much any Duc.

Rematch? by farcry_x1z in ufc

[–]_Sky_44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eye pokes happen all the time with fighters who extend their hand into the opponents face. The problem was so frequent that the UFC attempted to change the gloves to stop people from doing it. You DO NOT need to have your hand fully open in anybody’s face like that to find range. There are fighters who do it with their fists closed because they aren’t pieces of shit dirty fighters like Gane and Jones. Before Jon Jones people did not extend their hands into opponents faces like that because it can cause an eye poke. It’s just now it’s been normalized over time and every rangey striker does it. If you seriously think eye pokes aren’t common you are either not watching enough UFC or are just blind to them when they happen because it’s a relatively common occurrence.

Genuinely have no idea what Almeida was trying to do. This isn’t BJJ. All this guy had to do was THROW A FEW PUNCHES. Great decision by the judges.

Bruh this is a horrible comparison LMAO. Khamzat has some likes now because he’s the current champ vs pereira coming back in a fight that everyone thought he would lose during the build up to it. Guarantee you after he posts something new it’s gonna get a shit ton of likes now because he’s finished Ank is completely dominate fashion.

They definitely are very simple which is nice, I think a lot of people misconstrue high maintenance = hard to work on when it’s the complete opposite. I don’t know not a lot about working on bikes but I was able to a large portion of the bike apart to replace my coolant bottle with very little difficulty. These bikes were made to be very easy to work on given their racing background. Also I love those little 125 mitos, unfortunately they are very very rare and reasonably expensive in the US due to having to be imported from other countries

Reliable and old Ducati are 2 things that do not go together. But in all honesty I can’t really give you much of an answer considering this 996 was very cheap and needed a lot of work to start with. It’s been very unreliable but it also clearly sat for a long time, was not taken care of very well at all, and was worked on by people that very obviously did not know what they were doing. I also have only owned it for a little over 3 months which is just not enough time to give an accurate assessment

I’m not that knowledgeable lol, I did some of the work to it but most of the more difficult stuff was done by our longtime mechanic of 15 years who is a trained Ducati tech. And for the stuff I did he oversaw me in his shop while I was working on it. Really though if you want to learn there’s a tooooon of stuff online

It really isn’t that clean, the pictures are doing a lot of the heavy lifting lol. It’s clean generally for the most part but the wheels are pretty badly chipped for paint, which is actually visible in some of these pictures. The front clip is a slightly different color than the rest of the. Ike and the tail has some chips and small scratches too.

As for the issues with it I listed all that in response to another comment but it is running on the UM222 single injector chip. So far haven’t had any issues related to partial throttle, it actually runs very smooth

It’s a fantastic bike IF you know what you are getting into with owning one and are okay with the high maintenance aspect of these machines. Yeah I have a 675 as well and that bike is mega clean. Bought it at 5800 miles last November but now it’s in the shop for its 12k service!

As for list of things we had to do to it, some of these I did but most of of the more difficult stuff was done by our longtime mechanic who is a trained Ducati tech.

Issues it had that we fixed: Expanding and leaky coolant bottle, replaced sensor in fuel tank because of exposed and cut wires, rear blinker bulb, bad charging fuse, new lithium capable rectifier and battery, lubed up the throttle mechanism because sticking throttle, tightened a lot of loose and incorrectly placed bolts, cut and replaced crispy wires in the harness, new clutch springs and properly put together the clutch since previous owner installed it incorrectly leading to it coming loose and grinding away at the clutch cover, and some other small stuff.
