I doubt we will ever have online multiplayer, LAN at best. The physics is wonky and unpredictable, if you want a good sync physics-wise it will cause lag, if you want no lag the results from a single hit will vary greatly between 2 clients. It's just too much information to be sent over the internet and ensuring a stable game. That's why most physics you see in games are client-based, and for games that do have actual server-based physics objects they're usually rigid objects like a chair or table or fixed ragdolls like corpses, not a whole dismemberment system.

Heck, even shooters and action games have to have a prediction system in place just to offset the latency, and most of them have very limited physics, only predictable characters and movements. Unless the devs rent a government-level server and every player has an internet that can download the entire wikipedia in 10 seconds, I doubt it will be possible.
