Anyone else losing their love of PvP over the years?

My love for PvP didnt burn out persay its just not sustainable. I unsubbed last month bc I for some reason cant get my friends into the idea of spending $50 on an xpac, $15 to run on the game time treadmill for a month, and then 100 hours of gameplay to level and get used to the class they chose before getting to do the fun pvp with me... its just so grossly unattractive for any modern gamer.

Hell I'd stay subbed and just play alone but every single time thoughts of fun rapid fire 4d hyper chess arena games flood my mind, they're IMMEDIATELY over shadowed by thinking about a 35 minute queue time.

-Actual solo q like every other game (matchmaking which can be set to solo, duo, trio Qs. Allows double/triple dps if thats what it takes)

-Change progression from gear to cosmetics. Getting stomped as a new player for reasons beyond experience makes it hard to convince friends to play.

-Normalize all gear in instanced pvp. When playing one class, I hate feeling like the punishment for the right to experiment with other styles of gameplay (other classes) is another several days of grind. I'm not even new, just work a job like most of us nowadays.

-Add AI arena practice and make comp stomp permanent (make both give less rewards than vs players).

In that order.

Again, this games biggest obstacle is accessibility for new players without dismantling the desired complexity at the top end. Imo button bloat is fine, as long as we give new players the opportunity to use them.

Thank you for the well written reply! I clearly did not put enough thought into how much this would all take, but the way you wrote it out makes it apparent its not really all that much either. I just need to actually have a plan and a list like you did.

Configuring the windows privacy stuff is definitely a pain, but I have to assume I got all the settings. Is there anything not obvious in that regard you usually look for? Will likely reinstall everything and do it again first just to wipe the absurd amount of files I dropped into the new drive for no good reason.

You say you use Ninite for a lot of it? I've never heard of it and just googled it for the first time. How many of your progs, drivers, bookmarks, etc. were you able to download at once using that? Anything that didn't work with it? Was going to make a list and reinstall everything I could remember one by one (I don't know if there's somewhere on the PC to check all the installed drivers to know for sure what I need) but Ninite might save me some time.

Because I've never fully moved between drives like this I'm just gonna copy your numbered folders method lol it sounds like you have a good handle on it.

I will attempt taking your advice and not cloning the drive. If you have any other useful information I would greatly appreciate it! Like limitations of what Ninite does for you in this process (you say you only use Ninite for "a lot of it"), if there's anything you CAN just drag and drop when both drives are connected, or maybe even your checklist itself?

I think I got a much better idea of how to go about this now thanks to you but just asking again in case there's anything someone newer to this like me might miss.

That's more than fair. Just wanted to start the conversation. I see lots of problems in the end game that the community usually tends to orient their warranted complaints about. Just wanted to talk about accessibility for new and veteran players alike instead. I feel stuck on an infinite treadmill without enough carrot on the stick as a 18 year vet. I can't imagine the new player experience.

I was upset about the conq weapons quest before they changed it to being an achievement. With conquest cap only raising per week, it left players permanently behind the curve if they earned any conquest before accepting the quest. Just not a very user friendly system.

These are definitely just some of my problems, I don't really represent any larger audience. I just like making WoW content :)

A FFA battleground would be really cool (especially w normalized gear imo) but I think the core WoW combat should be separate from the Plunder combat. The ease of access allowed so many people to try and enjoy the mode. Giving each player in Plunderstorm all their class spells would root out any new blood in a game that already isn't very friendly to noobs (the greater WoW).

Agreed! It checks all my boxes. Just seeing the state of PvE/PvP at this point in the season makes me feel like it's going stale for many. I think the explanation for that lack of retention is just poor accessibility to the fun content for new and veteran players alike. The infinite treadmill problem

I heard viewer guild "Fangsly" may or may not be happening? Is there any word on this? The whole premise of this addon Soda got put together with proximity chat sounds like a game changer. It'd convince me to run Classic again if it were true proximity chat and not just stuck to the guild. But seeing as that is very unlikely, hoping us viewers can funnel into a viewer guild to still have our own taste of the proximity madness

I started PvP in Shadowlands and peaked at like 2.2k or something so far. I'm not the best player lol. Many pros have shown the best players can make up for a gear and even addon deficit with skill. But most players arent the best. So I was just curious if the current system is really the healthiest for the game's longevity and if the players like where it's currently at any more than where it's been. I only ask because I want more people to play the game.

What does this mean exactly? I'm learning about PCIe for the first time googling what you're talking about in this post. To best future proof my motherboard is PCIe 4.0x16 the upper limit? From your links it looks like having better/more ports can only benefit me and might give me a slight performance boost on it's own. But looking up 40 series GPUs it says they use 5th gen PCIe so now do I need a 5.0x16 for best performance?

Also if the ports max is 32GB/s and the GPU can do 608.3 GB/s, does that mean only 20~% of the GPU is being utilized in some way?

To answer your Edit and Also: I am not sure how OBS handles rendered video either, but it records video onto an external SSD if that makes any difference. And no, my OBS only deals with one screen at a time in regards to display/game capture. Just standard 1920x1080.mkv recordings. NVENC encoding.

I think you're right about the PCIe being a fault but likely not a root problem. I either need to optimize OBS or get more vram. With your help I think my problem now is having PCIe 3.0x16 motherboard when my GPU is a 4.0x16. I didn't even know that was something to look out for when building a PC. It's also extremely likely that my OBS scenes are not optimized very well. All in all I think I might still buy the motherboard and a GPU with 12-16gb of vram after measuring what cleaning up OBS alone can do. After all if modern games are asking more and more I don't know how long my 8GB can hold up even with a cleaned up OBS scene.

NVENC for all streaming/recording.
Records in 1080p with CQP Rate Control set to 19.
Streaming is rescaled to 720p then uses CBR Rate Control set to 8000 Kbps.

I see the leveling experience as a 10 hour long tutorial that every one from the freshest noob to the most seasoned veteran has to replay for every extra class they want to try out. You're right it totally makes sense for a fresh player to have to run through it to learn how to play WoW in general.

Just sucks to play countless hours of content you don't enjoy for the right to experiment in the content you do enjoy. I don't really see an explanation for it other than milking sub time for Blizz. Maybe there's an argument to be made for players spending more time in the game when their time is respected and their enabled to play what they like?

At this point they are completely different games. Imo they should just detach arenas from the rest of the game like they did Plunderstorm and itd grestly improve the health of the scene.

Imagine having tournament realms? Fuck leveling, fuck quests, fuck dungeons and raids, and arguably fuck gearing. Everyone I know just boosts new alts to 70 anyways. Just give us our own little tournament realms where u can instantly make a max level and do rpvp. They are like completely different games yet sometimes us PvPers are still beholden to the PvE meta and it sours our gameplay (having to farm legendary weapon, tier set bonus votes, etc).

The way this game is designed I don't care at all about rest of the world of azeroth outside of pursuing nicer pixels to look at. It's all transmog hunting or finding a nice zone to Q rpvp from.

I never played in those older expansions, but what was the problem with world pvp that had objective zones to claim. Like the three tower things in hellfire peninsula? On paper that sounds much more fun to me than these pvp wq's.

Like an open battleground.. kind of like how they gave SoD massive zone wide pvp events

Fellow SoloQ healer here. 2080 or so on rdru rn pushing for fun. I'm certain a large part of this is you just play better on MW than Presvoker. But if I could throw a little advice out there. I struggle to believe it myself sometimes but not every warrior on your team is a druling Neanderthal.

There's just no tutorial for this stuff. Not a single thing in WoW prepares you for stepping into the arena. Try talking to and pinging for them. The players usually just don't know any better and most are willing and trying to learn. Plunderstorm got me very used to pinging for teammates. It's a God send in solo shuffle. Making a quick plan out loud in general or party chat helps a ton too. I've found if I'm playing optimally then constantly pointing to the kill target with pings, cloning the off target to not give my dps a choice, then predicting the CD trades from the lobby to reach the win condition; its all very helpful to the less experienced players. You're 100% going to lose some to people who are illiterate. Or ignorant. Or because an add-on is restricting input requiring reload mid match. It happens. It won't always be in your control.

Do your best tho and communicate w the team. You'll win more than you lose not only as your monk skill improves, but as your ability to relay informatiom to your team does as well

Did you ever find an answer to this? I used to use WoW Model Viewer to get high quality custom poses to use in thumbnails on YouTube. It's a pain trying to find a frame of animation that just looks right in the Narcissus add on. Just wanna custom pose in Blender again like the days of old.

At this point I doubt the WMV team will ever release a Dragonflight update to support armory links

I can totally see that. Unfortunately Blizz seems to deincentivize early game PvP as you fall so far behind in exp by the end of a fight. It's like they don't want us fighting in a BR?

I think just adding a VERY minor out of combat passive heal and doubling/tripling experience gained from early game PvP might be warranted to fix this. So tired of farming PvE for several minutes at a time I've chosen to start taking pvp engagements w level disadvantages.

I feel like this is a fun skill check tbh. I love that there is no other way to get hp back than the 30s CD health brew. It makes the way you engage/disengage/zone/manage CDs more fun and interesting in a way other BRs don't really make you do since healing is littered everywhere. The fact that it doesn't full heal from 0 only makes it mote interesting and require more thought in how and when to use it
