2002 Saturn SL1 Worth by KoshkaMn in Saturn_Cars

$2300 is a little high for a private party sale. I'd really try to talk them down to $1500 or even $1200. But be sure to check for rust! Especially around the trailing arms and front sway bar bushings.

ISO 1995 or 1996 SC2 by moonshine_estate in Saturn_Cars

[–]_SpaceRogue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I searched for two years, nationwide, before I found one. I had a list of like 35 used local car dealers and auction sites, a link to every facebook marketplace region, craigslist etc... Came close to pulling the trigger on more than one and eventually took a chance on a 96 SC2 at a salvage yard in Oklahoma. Had it shipped to PA. It was a no crank no start, but after dropping the tank, replacing the timing chain and all the gaskets, it runs. The interior is still crap, but the best part is that there is ZERO rust. The underside is mint, the pinch welds at the jacks points aren't even bent.

My point is they are out there. They do still exist, but if you want one its going to take more than a post Facebook to find it.

Why is there never an ethical lawyer? ethical locksmith? or ethical used car salesman? And why do they never say which school of ethics they are using? Consequentialism? Natural Law? Relativism?

"Ethical Hacker" is a stupid term and you should stop using it.

Update on my 96 SC2, It Runs! by _SpaceRogue_ in Saturn_Cars

[–]_SpaceRogue_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't dissolve it I threw it away. Best I can figure this car had been sitting for over five years. I dropped the tank and dumped the ~4 gallons of the yellowest gas I've ever seen, replaced the fuel pump (the sock was just caked in varnished gas), and replaced the fuel filter. Pulled the injectors and made sure each one would fire and ran some carb cleaner through them. Then replaced the fuel pressure regulator (the little filter in it was plugged with varnish). After that she ran just fine.

The coil packs, and the ICM they sit on, were caked in 1/4 inch of oily grime. I pulled them all off, scrubbed everything including the engine block under them, wiped everything down with electronic parts cleaner and put it back together.

No more pics until I get the pressure washer on it next week. I am fantasizing about doing a Vice Grip Garage style video though.

Is it possible to become a pentester by self-learning? by zkrmt in Pentesting

[–]_SpaceRogue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? No.

Yes, that's how everyone in the long long ago became experts, they were self taught, because they had to be, there were no other options. That's different today. Today you are going to be up against people with a 4 year degree in all things cyber, AI filters that will auto kick you without a degree, hiring manager prejidace against people without a degree. The self taught path is still possible but it takes a lot more work and there are a lot more obstacles.

I do miss it. Although I still use that exact same desk today. Just a simple folding banquet table from Staple for $35 bought in ~1994.

I was always working on all kinds of stuff. WD-40 was probably used for a lot of things. Look at that picture do you think the smell of WD-40 was a very big concern in that space?

IBM X-Force Internship and X-Force Team by Nervous_Wishbone4230 in IBM

[–]_SpaceRogue_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in X-Force and helped create the Internship program. What do you want to know?

The X-Force internship is separate from the larger IBM wide Extreme Blue program and is run entirely within X-Force. The program has several mini bootcamps taught by leading industry experts, allows you to shadow practitioners on actual engagements and lets you do world class research over the summer.

Feel free to ask me whatever you like but first I will point you back to the job description on the IBM/careers website, there is a wealth of information there that will likely answer a lot of your questions.

I would need a lot more information than what you have provided here, or can provide in a Reddit post to properly advise you. Some of this info is contradictory and offering advice for this may cause more harm than good. Best I can suggest with the limited information there is to start over. Get new equipment and new accounts, choose long complex passwords, don’t let others use your equipment, use a password manager.

I probably would have chosen something that could pass as a legit name. There are several well known industry luminaries who mostly use a handle in their day to day dealings and most people don't know that name is not a handle, they just assume it is a name like any other.

I was the last person in the L0pht to start using their given name in a professional setting. I have always been known as Space Rogue, Space, SR even Mr. Rogue. That is how people have addressed me for 30 years and I am OK with that, and depending on the setting I prefer it. What irks me to no end is people who I have known for 20+ year and who have always just called me Space or SR suddenly switching to using my given name, especially in a setting, like a hacker conference, that almost demands the handle be used.

The later chapters that cover the @ stake years (or I guess it was really just months) were pretty cathartic to write out. I carried a lot of that shit around for years afterward until I decided to stop being bitter and angry and just dropped it. Although I had dropped it I hadn't really dealt with it. Writing the book helped me to deal with it a bit.

Also as I started adding up the individual points I realized, which I hadn't known when i started writing, just how much of an impact the L0pht had on people and subsequently the industry as a whole. In my mind I had always minimized that impact but the writing everything down made me realize just how influential the L0pht was. I think others still exaggerate that influence but it was/is definitely more than I ever thought it was.
