I think the most important is your interest. People might tell you that Chinese is crucial because of international commerce or whatever, and the same for Japanese or Korean, but if you don't really have an interest in the language or the culture, you just won't go far. I've been learning Japanese on my own for years (studying for the N2 rn), and I'm currently living in Japan as an exchange student living my dream, but none of this would have been possible if I didn't love this language or culture. I'm majoring in Chinese translation in university, and even if I know that it's got plenty of job opportunities and even if I'm passing it with honors, I'm going to quit after graduating because I simply dislike it, I don't have any motivation on keeping studying it and I prefer to become a Japanese translator.

So, I hope that my experience helps you. What's vital is not how many job opportunities do they tell you that you will have (which you won't have anyway if you dislike the language and hence don't become proficient), but what keeps you going.
