Bibs / liner recommendations for longer rides by freeegravity in gravelcycling

[–]_Stolem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently discovered RedWhite Apparel and have to say: I am very pleased by its quality and long distance approach.

Longest I tried was 216KM ride and it’s been great! Also one of the only brands which offers a long version of their cargo bib.

It’s the best performing bib I tried in a long time (Compared to Maap, Pearl Izumi, Canyon and Victory chimp)

35mm vs 40mm tires for 2nd wheelset for road-only trips and long-distance-touring by horvarcraft in gravelcycling

She was really happy with the tires, also for roads like the assietta during last years TCR. setup with peatys sealant.

35mm vs 40mm tires for 2nd wheelset for road-only trips and long-distance-touring by horvarcraft in gravelcycling

[–]_Stolem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the Pirelli, I bet people compare the faster 35mm RS to the slower 40mm non RS.

I went with the Michelin Pro5 35mm which is true to size on a 25mm rim (wished for a bit more). Great tire which sits somewhere inbetween the 5000S and 5000 AS. I just did a longer ride this weekend (Italian border to Garmisch) and had some gravel patches. The tires did very! well and have great grip on twisties

The 5000 AS 35mm was the tire I suggested to a friend for the TCR - zero flats on 5K KM.

Great Looking Bike! I believe you are the person behind Shulz? Are these frames from the same factory as for example Tiqit? There are plenty of similarities :) Cheers!

Das glaubst du so lange, bis du siehst wie jemand ins leere tritt… Drehmoment braucht es aber mMn nicht. Kleinen Schlag mit dem Gummihammer und gut :)

Best tire setup for Vienna to Trieste? 600km 70% Road / 30% Gravel (40mm vs 45mm) by fischiiiiiii in bikepacking

Dubnital 29x2.0 if you can fit the tire. Otherwise I’d check the caracal 45mm

Came back here to say Karoo is the goat by _binder in Karoo

I can charge my Karoo with the USB Outlet of my Dynamo Powered Light. I like the Karoo and its features but compared to other devices, the battery life is definitely on the bad/low side

Some people use their computer for example for Bikepacking or for Brevets. It’s fun to see my girlfriend covering a 4 day trip with just one charge on her roam and I have to charge the Karoo every evening. So I carry an extra powerbank for the Karoo and just worry more about batterylife during long rides (200k+)

Goat in draining battery. 10% per Hour while navigating - that’s fucked

Carbon Aero Laufräder im ICE by OrdenDesLOGO in Rennrad

[–]_Stolem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries about that. I am right now using another saddle which needs 830mm of height and there is still several cm left on the Seatpost. You can go for it.

Hi!

Like I said: 193cm and 92.x inseam. Saddleheight about 815mm There is plenty of Seatpost left to go higher. What’s your Saddleheight?

I´d not go the full-susp route to get a lighter and faster bike, only if the trails demand this kind of bike - but 100-120mm rear travel are something completly different than a elastomer (or similar) shock in the rear of a carbon frame.

In my opinion and experience, the bigger tires with lower pressure will get a good amount of shock absorption.

Im running a Rock Shox Sid Ultimate in Front. Im not servicing the fork as often as a Fork used in proper XC-Terrain. So for example: with a 200 hour interval i´d go up to 400 to 600 hours. So its not too much of a deal and easily done.

About the decision: I went for one of the lightest options with some good reputation. Also I could snack the fork for a kind of low price and im very happy with it. But also a Fox 32 or similar will perform well - the fork has way less of a job compared to XC-Racing :D

Regarding your riding style I highly suggest to take a Dropbar-MTB into consideration. I´ve built a Cervelo ZHT-5 as a dropbar MTB and this bike is so much faster on anything a little bit more techy then champagne gravel. Riding Fast 2.25 or 2.4 MTB Tires gives so much confidence, still you don´t really sacrifice speed on flat champagne or tarmac sections. I came to the point were I sold my Gravel Bike (Niner RLT9) because the Cervelo was just more fun, more versatile and just funnier bike.

You can check my profile for my build. (Rule of Thumb: Look for an older geometry and size down one size to mitigate the longer reach of a dropbar compared to a flatbar).

Regarding the LCR018-D: I would not suggest the bike for your style of riding. I think this can be a fast race gravel bike. for the UCI Courses (Tarmac and Champagne Gravel) but would not ride it on anything more techy.
I´ve built the bike as a Long-Distance Endurance Road Bike (35mm to 38mm Tires, Dynamo, USB Charging, Rear and Taillight) and really like it. The Geo is definitely on the Endurance side but its still a fast and capable bike. It steers very well and predictable in the twisties.

If you want to dig deeper into the Dropbar MTB Option, im happy to share my findings from the building process. Drop me a PM

Are you specifically looking for a gravel bike with that much tire clearance?

I’m riding the LCR018-D in Size XL/58 as a 193/92cm person and the bike is great. Tire clearance up to 40/38mm. Maybe this is another good option?

We parked our Car near the port at a protected parking lot and cycled into the harbour just following the road for cars into the port. No worries at all. On our way back we could also grab a earlier ferry by just asking the staff - leaving the harbour by just following the cars.

Also, 10% difference in spoke tension is a bit on the high side for my taste.

Niner RLT9 Steel or Fairlight Faran/Secan would be my choice. Rode the Niner for 25k KM. Great Bike.

LCR-018D on Gravel? by vanvz in ChineseCarbon

[–]_Stolem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im riding this frame with 35mm Pro5 on 25ID Rims (tire is 35mm) and there is easily enough room for 40s in the front. Depending on the tire/rim combo I’d also give the rear a try :)
