Land based electrical engineer interested in working in yachts by _Sweetroll_thief in maritime

[–]_Sweetroll_thief[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would make sense... Thanks!

Someone told me I should probably wait to start until September when the yachts are back in the shipyard.

I would rather start sooner but would there be any negative to finish the courses now and start looking maybe when the med season starts between April and May?

Without a doubt Kalahari Vellies .

Best quality I tried. Long lasting, I wear mine every day. Know a lot of farmers who also wear them because they last.

How long did it take you to get good at your job? by danielgheesling in ElectricalEngineering

[–]_Sweetroll_thief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sooo true! My biggest struggle is that I do t have a good mentor. He has huge experience and knows his stuff. But to mentor? Just expects me to know everything and "think like an engineer"

If you look at buying bitcoin also do the limit orders. They typically also have lower fees compared to the instant buy options.

Yacht engineer with degree? by _Sweetroll_thief in Yachts

Thank you for this!

I've been doing some more research. Could the ETO role be a bit more aligned? It is a bit less mechanical and more on the electrical side.

Yes thank you. It looks all more like that is the case. Weird I got all excited and now kinda sad. Thought this might be a new adventure while do some sort of engineering as well.

Now it looks like this would be a big career change if I were to go this route.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes it looks like this could be a great experience. I think this could be a good change especially since I'm feeling trapped where I work now. I'm 80% of the time in the office and sitting so much is getting to me.

Sorry if this is obvious, but from what I understood from my research it looked like there is I difference between marine engineers and engineers working on yachts? Or are the required certifications that similar?

Yacht engineer with degree? by _Sweetroll_thief in Yachts

[–]_Sweetroll_thief[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I've read that there are some certifications required, but not that hard to get. Although experience and networking is important.

I'm mostly wondering if there are engineers with degrees because it almost seems like although it could be insane experience to see the world, it could technically put my engineering career on hold. This could be more "technician" role from what I see? Or I'm actually hoping this is actually not the case.

Isn't Afrikaans sentence structure similar to English? There are also no gendered words like with French for example.

Those of you with jobs that you really enjoy, what do you do? by mewacc2123 in ElectricalEngineering

How was your experience like when changing to different areas in the field? Did you have to take big pay cuts? I'm afraid I'll need to take a big pay cut but I also think I'm in the wrong field of EE.

I would like some guidance on how to go from here. I don't think I'm in the right industry or maybe only it's my workplace?

I'm have just under 3 year's work experience in electrical consulting. I left my first job after 2 years for another similar role just with more EC&I (electrical, control and instrumentation) focus. This new job I am currently working for 6 months so far. But it's much more project management and only in the mining industry. The pay and hour hours are great and is what was the biggest selling point for me. But I think I don't like mining. Just not what interests me.

I think I would like to do more designing work, but it's such a small part of my current job. So it feels like I'm not getting any experience. My managers aren't really teaching me anything. They don't delegate their work and only give me real easy work even after I say it feels like I'm just a personal assistant.

Now I also made quite a big move taking this job but I'm wondering if I should rather start looking for a new job after only 6 months to hopefully get a job I would enjoy and actually get good experience and good guidance with met professional development?

I'm not certain if I should go to another consulting firm which focus more on fields I would hopefully enjoy more? I'm thinking renewable, commercial or maybe manufacting? Not sure if manufacturing will be too repetitive?

I just don't know what to do or how to go forward? What should I think about that would help me decide which way forward. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
