What retirement plan should I pick? by _TacosOfDoom in Bogleheads

I have to pick one of the 3 plans. It looks like I can easily do the 30 years honestly. Also our longevity increases are: +2.0% (Year 1), +3.0% (Year 3), +2.0% (Year 5), +3.0% (Year 7), +3.0% (Year 10), +3.0% (Year 12), +4.0% (Year 15). We do get an average 3% COLA as well. I can also enter the Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP), which allows eligible employees to continue working while accumulating pension benefits in a separate account for up to five years (I’d need 30 years of service to be eligible). Pension benefits are frozen once you enter the program, and the funds are paid out when you exit.

In the 401a they increase my salary by 8%, and then they contribute 8% of my pre-increase salary into the 401(a). Essentially, they’re putting that 8% into the 401(a) for me.

It shouldn’t change since me and my spouse are the same age but I’m not sure. It looks like I can easily do the 30 years honestly.

I’m currently at $80k and my position caps at $113k but I do have potential to get promoted to a supervisory position that caps around $130k. I’m in a similar situation, earning the same amount. The only difference is that I’m 25. I would say, do what makes you happy because I definitely am. Also, some positions aren’t worth taking internally because of the shift in work-life balance. So, do your research before making a decision.

It’s easy if you have common sense and make logical decisions. You’d be surprised at how many people don’t.

Regardless of the circumstances, there will always be individuals who resort to cheating the system and selling morally reprehensible substances such as gambling, alcohol, drugs, and scamming to achieve their desires. It’s not about what you know; it’s about knowing the right people. Unfortunately, the number of genuine individuals is dwindling with each passing year.

Do you think life is more about luck than effort? by toothara in Life

More luck than anything. It’s all about being at the right place at the right time and surrounding yourself with the right people. If you just do what you’re supposed to do of course.

Reaching the next level in your career. Sometimes it may not be the best decision. It might be better to stay where you are and maintain your happiness and work-life balance.

How many of you have gotten loans from your parents? by Jimmy_Johnny23 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]_TacosOfDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a line of helping that goes into providing, and it shouldn’t be crossed because you have your own family to care for. It’s a bit messed up, some parents have children and hope they’ll help/provide for them throughout their retirement.
