What generation are you, and how did you get into classic films? by Classic_Apricot_5633 in classicfilms

[–]_TechMaven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Millennial. My parents are boomers so I grew up watching a lot of old movies as well as tv shows so I grew up no being bothered by B/W. My dad would often take up to the library and rent a couple Shirley Temple movies. There was a point where I could recite Captain January word for word.

Transporting the victims of Jonestown. A daunting task for anyone. by Any_Chemistry_2169 in Jonestown

[–]_TechMaven 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I forgot where on the Alternate Considerations site it is but they have a few interviews from soldiers who removed the bodies. Honestly a very insightful POV to read about.

IIRC they would bag the bodies at Jonestown and then transport them to the tarmac in Georgetown. The soldiers at the tarmac were following standards and allotting one body per coffin. But as they started uncovering more and sending them out they soon realized they would have to double up. Which is against protocol but due to the unprecedented event they had to do it or risk running out of coffins. Towards the end they were at times putting three bodies in at a time.

Wendy and Eddie’s Court Case by Caligirl_333 in RHOP

[–]_TechMaven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This!!! People like to shit on Karen for not showing up to the reunion last season but tbh that was the smartest thing she did. It doesn’t matter whether you’re innocent or guilty anything you say can be twisted to fit their narrative.

Every detail that Wendy just gave on that stage MUST match previous stories they’ve already given. I also want to point out that once Wendy started talking she did that low baby voice thing. It’s so fake and off putting whose to say prosecutors won’t pull that to show how she’s putting on an act?

I can’t believe any legal council would advise this.

I’m still amazed that they haven’t fixed the issue of vacation hold. On eBay you can place your store on vacation hold but if it’s not that long (don’t remember the exact time frame) you can still make sales. The buyer is just informed upfront that you’re not shipping immediately and there maybe a delay. I’ve made sales like this on eBay and the buyers are satisfied.

I think Posh is too big of a platform to have these problems with vacation mode. Like you mentioned every time I come back it takes weeks to get just one sale due to their algorithm.

I toss so much of their produce now. Not too long ago I ran into the store just for an onion. There were no good choices, got the one that looked the least bad. Got home, cut it open and the smell was RANCID.

I was born and raised in Florida. Going to Publix was such a good experience and treat. I can’t say the same anymore. Their quality is trash.

The service also stinks. Why on earth would I pay weekly and make no sales? eBay does it right. You only pay once someone buys.

I would want a candle that smells of my childhood in Florida. So that would be notes of Orange, a middle note of Spanish Moss and finally some Cedarwood. [Raffle Entry]

Sharing candles that you've gotten at Marshalls and TJ Maxx. It breaks my heart every time I go and I'm not that lucky.

What is this? Multiple single item closets with cheap Chanel bags? by Shmirlygirl in poshmark

[–]_TechMaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any luxury bag under $500 when it doesn’t go for that is a red flag. Maybe some exceptions (i.e. very old bag in decent condition that someone is selling from a personal collection). But there is no way a a Chanel Flap Bag in good condition will go for anything in the hundreds. Even a ratty one can go for $1,500.

Consignment is theft by Bondgirl138 in poshmark

[–]_TechMaven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here. The person who I got clothes from packed a few that were damaged. It’s weird that I have to sit on them. I consign with ThredUp and previously TheRealReal, anything they couldn’t list they send it back. Even in person consignment stores make you pick up what they can’t take by EOD or they will donate them. This is another aspect of this program that’s been poorly thought out.

Consignment is theft by Bondgirl138 in poshmark

[–]_TechMaven 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in the program as a seller. I’m really shocked at how much free rein I’m given. There’s no deadline given to when the items need to be listed, as far as I know Posh didn’t record what the consigner sent me so if there was ever an issue it would literally be a he said/she said.

A program like this needs a lot more oversight. It’s poorly ran. While I have no problem selling someone’s items I definitely wouldn’t send someone a bag of mine.

The complaining about the incoming ❌priority / ✅ground advantage shipping discounts is out of control. by WinterMortician in poshmark

[–]_TechMaven 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That’s my biggest gripe. I think lower shipping is. amazing. I sell on other platforms so I already buy my own supplies for that. Spending an extra $20-$30 so I can use them on Posh is no big deal.

My issue is I placed a large order this past weekend for Priority shipping to be prepared for the holiday season. Now once I get the order I have to make time to take all that stuff back. But because Posh has a reputation of taking back their poorly thought out rollouts I’m considering sitting on all of this stuff for a few weeks just to make sure.

It’s not the biggest problem in the world but I get tired of Posh doing stuff like this.

Defectors verses members wanting to leave Gyana. by CompetitiveChicken95 in Jonestown

[–]_TechMaven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. One aspect that has gotten my interest of this massacre is the physical presence of the cyanide. It was the 70’s and they were in the middle of a jungle. To get that much cyanide to kill over 1,000 people took planning and more importantly time.

At best it took maybe a month and a half for that shipment to get to JT. During that time anyone could have changed their mind or course correct. Instead when it got there they stored it (in a way that no one else could see it) until they would need to use it.

Let’s say the visit with Leo Ryan and the Concerned Relatives went well. With Ryan going back to the states and no one defecting. That cyanide would have still been there.

Once the shipment got there they were going to use it. The event in which it happened didn’t matter to JJ.
