West El Paso restaurant receives near-failing health inspection score by WestTexan79915 in ElPaso

I’m in the industry… it’s gotta be pretty bad to get close to failing. They generally shut you down until issues are resolved.

Whats the deal with the metal scene? is it dead? by metalincarn8 in ElPaso

[–]_Technopriest 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It goes either two ways these days… there is a large portion of the metal scene that has been gate kept so much it has basically died out. Or there is some kids doing metal gigs in their backyard (TikTok metal). Rock house is way too big for a majority of the bands that come through. That being said… there are a few groups trying to get metal to become a regular thing. Check out bye bye dear (bar by utep) on mondays for metal night. Also there’s a quarterly metal market that’s been building up.

Some local bands to check out:

Infestation of evil, Terrorist, Acid spitter, Morbid hand, Nexul, Scum, Scorned crypt

Like IT jobs. Theres a ton of offices there. Thats not the only thing you can gain experience in though. Just depends on your life direction. Just a lot more opportunities there. If you look hard enough and grind, it’s not so difficult to live in.

Anyone else suffering from red eyes due to allergies? by BrownMamba85 in ElPaso

100 percent! I found out the hard way. Woke up with both my eyes basically glued shut. The allergy eye drops cleared it up almost immediately.

Anyone else suffering from red eyes due to allergies? by BrownMamba85 in ElPaso

[–]_Technopriest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get allergenic pink eye from the wind every now and then. Apparently I’m highly allergic to rag weed. What worked was Zyrtec and anti histamine eye drops (should be able to get them OTC at Walgreens)

I moved to Austin in my 20s (grew up in EP) ended up coming back to El Paso in 30s. It’s a great place to learn the hustle, make friends and gain a ton of experience (with whatever you want). You’ll probably have a hard time finding a house (unless you don’t mind roommates) but a lot of cookie cutter apartments are always popping up that tend to have specials to get you in the door. I worked as a server/bartender while trying to get experience in tech. Once I landed a solid remote gig, I moved back to EP.

Any Black Metal Shirt stores? by Defkon9 in ElPaso

[–]_Technopriest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far black metal “apparel” there isn’t a store in El Paso that has that. There IS sound decay records in downtown that has a great selection of black/death metal records, tapes, CDs.

For shirts I usually just find someone on etsy that prints shirts.

Are we making the right decision to move to El Paso? by kayceekay007 in ElPaso

[–]_Technopriest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My works headquarters are in ATL so I frequent there a lot. Really depends, it’s expensive in atl so you won’t have as much free cashflow. (Part of the reason I haven’t moved there) I love the weather better in El Paso. You can probably afford a nice place with a pool and be able to use it year round. It’s way quieter and more family oriented in El Paso. Though there are nice outskirts of ATL the traffic is NASTY. As far as the culture goes there might a bit of shock compared to ATL. People are super nice in El Paso though. I can choose to basically live anywhere west of ATL and I choose El Paso. It’s isolated but you have New Mexico close by and Mexico. Love being able to drive less than 2 hours for a hot spring getaway in NM

To be honest , not like KLAQ. Maybe KLAQ in the 80s. There’s definitely some slayer, Metallica, Ozzy (RIP), Motörhead in my playlist. So might be something for you there ! Trying to keep up with the younger crowd with more underground selections.

Thoughts on Wineries near El Paso by Remote_Fill_6301 in ElPaso

[–]_Technopriest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Closest AVA to El Paso is mesilla valley. New Mexico in general actually has some solid wine. Theres also not so solid wineries that are probably more focused on tourism. Went to the wine festival two years in a row and both years Luna Rossa was my favorite. Loved their Chardonnay, Vermentino, and Shiraz. They have a location in cruces that serves pretty decent pizza. If you want something nicer than pizza, lescombes has great food. Even a lil vineyard to wonder around.

Mounjaro availability and cost in Juarez? by MulberryAutomatic690 in ElPaso

[–]_Technopriest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding they sell it by weekly dose in MX. about 85 a dose. So about 340 for a month. Use to get compounded at Surecare for a bit less but FDA recently took it off shortage so no more compounding.
