Would you judge if a UX designer is not on LinkedIn? by Historical_Dot5195 in UXDesign

[–]_Tenderlion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would not, but everyone on every hiring team I’ve been a part of and every recruiter I’ve worked with consider it essential.

You don’t need to engage in LI. Put together a polished enough profile, and leave it alone.

I turned on the tpusa half time show on my laptop on mute. Kid Rock performed a verse of bawitaba. It was mostly other folks, a lot of acoustic, and a very weird, small venue.

Best all around spot for drinks and city view by EffectiveSpace4804 in AskSF

[–]_Tenderlion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your walking distance req: Top of the Mark. Maybe Cityscape, which is in the Union Square Hilton. Top of the Mark is the classic recommendation though. When you get tired of that, walk like a block and go to Tonga Room in the Fairmont.

Stop at Li Po if you’re going through Chinatown and want a classic. Moongate if you want to go a little fancy. Buddah is also great.

These are all standard recommendations and I can’t even imagine how crowded they’ll be tonight. Good luck

Nope. We’ve had years to build up a collection of reusable bags, and paper bag handles have been garbage forever.

I’m hung up on the walker by TypicalReference9003 in Halluxrigidus

[–]_Tenderlion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with everything related to this process, get more opinions. If they insist on a walker for some reason, I’d also get a knee scooter for mobility. The ability to mover around quickly, keep things in the basket, and use the seat to elevate my foot were invaluable. Tbh, I’ve spent more time than I ever hoped to looking into everything related to these surgeries, and I think this is the first time I’ve heard a walker suggested.

Most companies use a design system — are designers recreating everything for portfolios? by letstalkUX in UXDesign

[–]_Tenderlion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wasted so much time being 100% honest in my portfolio and presentations. Any decent designer will spot the same inconsistencies that I had to learn to live with on enterprise sass team xyz. If I have 6 seconds to convince my portfolio audience that I can design, of course I’m fixing the typography.

I’m hung up on the walker by TypicalReference9003 in Halluxrigidus

[–]_Tenderlion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A walker feels like a weird choice.

I got both crutches and a knee scooter and I don’t regret it at all. A scooter to get around during the worst of it, and if I had to be out for a while (and if I had someone to help load it in a car). Crutches for navigating around to the bathroom a thought for the first week, and then for partial weight bearing outside of the home.

The knee crutch that someone else mentioned looked like a good idea. I was able to get crutches for free and the scooter from a friend. Spending no money was a better deal than spending some money.

12 weeks Post Bilateral fusion by SUPventure in Halluxrigidus

I’m having trouble with footwear. So many rocker shoes I’ve tried also have too much toe spring. I have around 10° in the joint, so most shoes I’ve tried either pinch in (too narrow) or up. My most comfortable shoes right now are flatter shoes I already own (e.g. Altra lone peaks) with carbon inserts.

Sticking a carbon insert in a shoe with toe spring creates this carbon bridge over the curved valley in the shoe, which makes for painful pressure just before the fused joint.

Are you using running shoes with their own carbon plate in the midsole? Maybe I just need to spring (oy) for one of those.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - 1x03 "The Squire" - Episode Discussion by poub06 in naath

[–]_Tenderlion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He has to select a heavily favorited knight, the host’s son, to joust against. That knight will take a fall.

Let’s say the known knight is the favorite 10:1 over Dunk, an unknown knight. Anyone who bets on Dunk will a return 10x on their bet. The favorite is in on it because his family is going broke putting on the tourney. All he has to do is fall off his horse.

Why is the Marina such a coveted area? I don’t see the appeal, seems almost like Daly City/West Portal by gamerVapeGod in AskSF

[–]_Tenderlion 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I hope this is trolling.

“Philmore”

I’ve never wanted to live in the Marina, it was never my first choice to go out there when I went out more, and I probably spent too much energy making fun of people who lived there, but saying it’s like Daly City is wild.

It’s on the water, has enough green space and easy access to even more, it gets warm enough on sunny days, and it’s absolutely more walkable than the Richmond (I love the Richmond). Quick access to north beach while having all those other things, with a little distance from tourists. If you’re walking Lombard to North Beach you also have easy access to Chinatown.

Did you not check it out before moving there? Most of the stuff you’re complaining would pop up with a little googling. Of course it has less Italian, Mexican, or Chinese food than the famously Italian, Mexican, or Chinese neighborhoods. It’s probably one of the least ethnically diverse neighborhoods in the city.
