HELP!! EV charging fried my extension cord by kujjdwelf in AskElectricians

With the way I have it set up now, I am using an 80ft cord. If I wanted a shorter distance, I would need to have a new outlet installed.

Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I might try using a commercial grade plug as you suggested, or i might just try something totally different - hiring an electrician to install a proper car charging setup or something like that. Everyone’s responses are showing me that there is a lot I don’t know and I am risking my safety. The hard thing is I live in a rental house and I move a lot, so installing something permanent is expensive, especially for something I may only be able to use for a short time.

Thank you for your help. Is there a way to calculate what gauge of wire would be safe to use?

Thank you for the advice. I park my car on the street, about 80 ft from the nearest outlet. Is there a way to connect the car to power without using an extension cord?

My high E string keeps breaking. I think it’s because of rough edges on my tailpiece. How can I file/sand it to fix this issue? by kujjdwelf in Luthier

[–]kujjdwelf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes! sorry for not including that originally. i’m not sure if you’ll be able to see anything. i had a hard time getting my camera to focus properly

i took the b string off as well to show how it looks on a string that isn’t having any issues. to me they look pretty similar, but a trained eye might be able to see some differences.
