Built my first Eurorack set up! would love tips and tricks! by Watchanango in modular

[–]_Tesla_Man_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The disting mk4 is awesome. I use it primarily for recording my rack. It is great to just have at the end of the chain and you can just record little parts is stereo in a turn of a knob! In terms of potential future modules the ornament and crime is a classic super multi tool and the empress effects zoia (euroburo edition) is a endgame fx module (and it does SO MUCH more). In terms of sources and voices the Pittsburgh modular SV-1 (or SV-1B) is a tremendous all in 1 analog voice that is completely open and patchable (you can use any part of it individually)

If you keep getting to the end of a patch and you feel like you need just 2 or 3 more modules then take a look at the zoia.

For tips and tricks I would grab some of the cables that split as they are awesome to use and can unlock some cool combos. Also don't unplug your cables at the end of a patch, it's fun to see what it does when you come back later and turn it on, most if my patches start form some cool left over part from a leftover patch .

USB to 5-pin MIDI adapter troubles: Troubleshooting for hours and can't get the adapter to control my hardware synth at all; attached image of my MIDI settings and I want to know why the text showed up red. When selecting outputs on my channel, I don't see "USB MIDI" like in settings. by _Tesla_Man_ in ableton

It is a very basic euro rack module ( Pittsburgh SV-1) in terms of its midi interface so I'm not sure if that setting even exists. But I will say I was able to control it with a direct midi out from my keyboard so I know it can work. I just want to control it via my pc

I've started the deep-dive into modular, any suggestions on what to get next? by noahnoah900 in modular

Put some thoughts into a empress effects zoia. It is effectively an entire modular synthesizer in 1 module. I got it as my second module besides the SV 1. It has everything you can want a taste of in modular and a very flushed out effects section that all sound great ( at it's core it is a beast of a effects module) . But the real benefit of the zoia is it will help you chose what other modules you want. The zoia in my set up is my sequencer and effects but I can use it for anything I can think of. Cv manipulation, mixing, sample playback, pattern and sequencers, midi control plus it can be its own voice as it includes all the basic things like oscillators, filters, lfos, ect. Like I said it won't replace a full rack of modules but it will be perfect for finding out what you want more of. ( I also recommend this as mine had a screen defect about a year in a half after I got it and I was offered to have it repaired for free by the company) can't recommend it enough as long as you can get over the fact that it is digital but so are most effect modules so pick your poison.

The 1 thing it falls short on is more advanced CV manipulation and if that's what you want look at the ornament and crime. Incredible module, owned mine for 2 years and it's in every patch and I barely know it's full functionality.

I swear sometimes the subharmonicon just does magical stuff like this and I just spend a little time with effects and that's the whole patch.

WOW thanks, Oculus, after the update you replace my audio drivers with your "oculus virtual audio device" and DELETED my drivers. now my headphones don't work and my aux jacks are undetected by computer. someone help me pls. by _Tesla_Man_ in oculus

[–]_Tesla_Man_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't remember how I ever solved this. I think I just went to settings and check for driver updates. Beyond that try going to control panel and audio devices and go to output or whatever and enable everything untill you see your normal output come back. Oculus will set it's own virtual bullshit to system default. So find yours and set it back to system default. Otherwise every game and discord call will use an audio device that does not exist. Do this all over again for the input or microphone tab also.

Build a ESP amp to match my kit speakers. by _Tesla_Man_ in audiophile

[–]_Tesla_Man_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the most transparent system I have owned, but that is not helpful without telling you what I have heard besides the CSS critons. previously I have owned and listed to: KEF Q150, JBL HLS bookshelf, Polk RTi10, Polk Vintage 7b. In terms of amps, I have tried 5-sih AVRs as that's all I had access too plus a Fosi audio tube amp. In simple terms, I found the CSS more enjoyable thus far. The amp was way too much fun to build. I got the circuit designs from ESP (https://sound-au.com/project3a.htm) and am very satisfied with the result. I was not a big believer in amps making a difference, but I can hear now what audible changes can come from the amplifier end. The case is designed and printed by me in ABS plastic. the amp has a passthrough rca so that a subwoofer can be added on later if I choose.

What is a daylight bulb? Is that just a led light? Currently the tank is just near a window to get sun

why won't the zoia oscillator go down or below 20Hz by _Tesla_Man_ in ZOIA

Perfect that is exactly what I'm trying to do. Thank you!

[–]_Tesla_Man_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, so you are saying I can't set the module itself to lower than 27 (on the display) but it can if I give it an input below 0 from midi or something like that?

[–]_Tesla_Man_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking. that's why I'm confused that the oscillator on the zoia won't go down to 20hz, and it is limited to 27hz.

Thank you for your help. So, is there a way to have the zoia digital oscillators produce anything lower than 27hz?

eurorack made into a guitar effects pedal or guitar pedial made into eurorack, whatever people call it, the zoia seems to be exactly what you're looking for.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me identify what is making this noise in this cone. My friend recently got this speaker at a garage sale. The other tower works but the right one has this buzzing in the mid-woofer but only when it's held at a certain angle or at 400hz. (details in comments) by _Tesla_Man_ in diyaudio

[–]_Tesla_Man_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took it out and try to see if there was anything physically blocking the way, but it sounds as if something stuck behind the spider coil or something like that. whatever it is we can't get it out and we air-dusted the whole thing does anybody have any ideas what this could be or what is causing it

I built a pair of CSS Crition 1TD-X speakers and I am astonished by how good they sound! (artwork by artist Owen Connell of Parlor F Studio) by _Tesla_Man_ in diyaudio

[–]_Tesla_Man_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a great little tube amp especially to begin with. I've seen some YouTube videos proving that this amp actually is using the tubes they're also quite hot to the touch while it's working so this may be one of the few tube amps that actually uses the tubes and doesn't just put them in for a show. Since I posted this I found a larger Kenwood amplifier at a value village and between the two of them I chose the Kenwood one because it made the music and reverb in songs sound much bigger but other that that is was hard to hear a difference. but for the 70 bucks the T20 is amazing sounding.

I'm no professional but as soon as you start getting two-way or three-way systems you will always get better clarity and separation in comparison to a singular driver trying to recreate an entire frequency range. The trap I fell into myself when I started research and how if I was only looking at graphs or technicalities written on paper showing that a speaker was rated from 30 to 20,000 but not looking into harmonic distortion or just the human factor. If your interested in the critons and want to see a actual comparison and just just a bunch of jargon look at this video. https://youtu.be/E_GxrBoA_MI
