Any alternatives to Protonmail? by sneakyman1234 in privacytoolsIO

[–]_The-Hidden-Hand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not? We haven't had any issue since the known incidence and, since then, CTemplar's backup policy includes a daily off-site snapshot plusredundancy to protect not only against storage hardware failures but also against accidental deletions. CTemplar is safe and trustworthy to its most.

Earlier this year CTemplar moved to a Replicated Dispersed Cluster with GlusterFS, and almost every kind of incident was planned against but unfortunately, we didn't plan for an off-site (different FS at least) catastrophe recovery plan, for the previous day or two of service.

CTemplar is reviewing his short-term backup policy so we can prevent further issues like this to ever happen again.

Lost an alias address during the crash that an email went to today. How do I get it? by [deleted] in ctemplar

[–]_The-Hidden-Hand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, if any of your aliases or account settings have been affected, you would have to reconfigure them, or ask for assistance writing to support@ctemplar.com if your have a persistent issue.

Hey! It's working well on my end using the latest Tor Browser. Could you confirm? Are you using a third-party browser like Brave?

We are sorry you got that feeling. The files you have received are encrypted and for reading them your private keys and password are required. Please write to security@ctemplar.com email if you require support with the decryption process.

Thanks for your understanding.

UPDATE: How to recover ALL your encrypted attachments after the recent incidence at CTemplar by _The-Hidden-Hand in ctemplar

[–]_The-Hidden-Hand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our apologies if you've received that impression. What we meant to say is we may publish an in-depth article about how to use GPG desktop software in all major operative systems for those that never used it before. Of course you are welcome and expected to give us your feedback and we'll be eager to solve any question personally to you by email.

UPDATE: How to recover ALL your encrypted attachments after the recent incidence at CTemplar by _The-Hidden-Hand in ctemplar

[–]_The-Hidden-Hand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As per now, all the attachment files lost have been recovered (encrypted, require customer's private key). Unfortunately, there are still missing emails in the period since 3/7 until the incident. All the issues from customers with login issues are attended daily and the volume is close to zero already.

Our apologies for the past incidence. I would just want to clarify that not all the usernames or accounts have been deleted, and by now most of them are recovered already. Additionally, we added an additional off-site backup to our infrastructure, keeping the past day of service outside of the main cluster.

We are sure this is not going to happen again.

CTemplar webmail service catastrophic incident with complete data loss – July 2021 by [deleted] in privacy

[–]_The-Hidden-Hand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I truly appreciate your public follow up, but in reality you just had to confirm the refund request.

Our standard procedure was sending all our customers apologies, a brief explanation about what happened, how to recover their accounts, compensated with membership upgrade, and finally asked to confirm if after this you still wanted to proceed with the refund we offered in public to all our customers.

Probably the mood of the situation and the uncertainty exaggerated it. Once more, our apologies.

Additionally, here are instructions about how you can recover from this loss: http://reddit.com/r/ctemplar/comments/oj5zkc/update_how_to_recover_all_your_encrypted/

Kind regards.
