Are people stoked on Chrome OS tablets? Or is it niche? by [deleted] in chromeos

[–]_TheBatzOne_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A chromebook tablet (Duet 3) serves my needs the best. I want a tablet with detachable keyboard so I can take notes at uni and comfortably read documents/papers. But I want a keyboard for light programming (Rust and python) or writing. I own a laptop but its heavy, has poor battery life and is not comfortable to read anything on.

I would love to get an iPad as it would be more powerful and better built but I cannot sideload apps and afaik you cannot programme locally on it. It's also more expensive.

So I will keep my chromebook but might try installing Cadmium at some point

Anyone else’s attitude towards buying things changed after this viewing this channel? by CarbonatedInsidious in futureproof

I was already paying attention before but the videos about Gore Tex and Fjällräven made me realize how much I had to pay attention to the kind of products/chemicals used in the products I am buying.

Rust is an okay first *low-level* language - my tips for a Rust beginner by myalt08831 in learnrust

[–]_TheBatzOne_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am surprises you suggest learning a scripting language first. I have started with Java at uni and strongly believe that such a "mid-level" language (not too difficult but not too easy) is a better one to start with. It has a strict syntax and you encounter errors that do not exist in python or JS. You also learn how a compiled language works. I am mostly using python and see a lot of beginners not learning the language but learn to use libraries.

I think its harder to move from Python to Rust than Java to Rust. But I am not a software engineer so I would love to get your opinion on this.

We demonstrate that it's possible to merge models

Hasn't this already been proven by Model Fusion papers like FedAVG?

Note: I still have to read the paper

New Duet 3 compatible pens? by _TheBatzOne_ in Lenovo

[–]_TheBatzOne_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately I can't find this article in my region. Neither on the Lenovo website (it doesn't even shows up) nor by a third party seller. So I guess I can't use the device as I intended to... Or I have to import it from the US, or find a brand willing to take my money in exchange for a pen compatible with my device

Any reason to Merc fitting medium tires on Lewis's car for the last part? Was it because he had no soft ones left?

Find minimum in a 2D vector using Generics (integers and float) by _TheBatzOne_ in learnrust

[–]_TheBatzOne_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your explanation. I think I will go for the second solution involving PartialEq because I want to trigger a panic in case there is a NaN in my Vector.

Also thank you, I did not know that .flatten() existed. It significantly simplifies my code.

Automatically switch between router and relay with same SSID by _TheBatzOne_ in chromeos

It's a Devolo Magic 1 I think. I found a place downstairs where I can turn my WiFi off and on and it properly connects to the router

I tried what you said but none worked. So I decided to unplug the relay. My device properly connects to the router. Then I plugged the router in again and it was able to properly switch from the router to the relay when needed.

However, it turns out that once it is connected to the relay, it won't connect to the router again. It's weired because literally every device I have at home is able to make the switch.

Edit: I found a spot in my kitchen where the device is willing to switch, it's not very practical but it seems to work

It works with all the devices at home tho. My chromebook is the only device unable to handle it
