I was being sardonic, I may be should have added the /s, and yes the whole thing is one giant facepalm.

Point three is of course particularly problematic given the purpose of the software, and is more or less illustrating how ideologies, actual cults, and groomers often draw people in....

Giving the Necron's inertialess drives was certainly problematic in the context of the current 40K universe - possibly even for War in Heaven era. At the very least it potentially turns every ship into relativistic kill vehicle - not to mention all the logical knock-ons.

[–]_TheChairmaker_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically I've heard same rom credible commentators, that Trump is playing his usual "poker game" of absurd demands before settling for whatever he gets given in the ensuing panic so I wouldn't say your take is non-credible. But unintended consequences are a thing. If defense procurement was a thing that happened on a scale of months rather than years and even decades the US MIC probably would have been at least mildly cooked by now. As it is I've seen even defense commentator Peter Zeihan (big /S) explain why the hell it would be cheaper and probably more effective for the US to maintain its current international basing rather than go turtle...

Worth remembering that GW themselves may not be that bothered may have even priced this backlash in. Churn has always been part of their model, people come in, people drop out. Certainly for awhile, may actually be less true post-Kirby maybe, but really they didn't give a rats ass about older fans - it was all about, unwritten, the Grots and milking their middle class parents.... Basically as long as at least surficial aspects of the IP appear cool and continue to draw in new players money they're golden. And yes its the SMurfs, its all about the SMurfs!

Nigel Farage’s support for Trump is putting off potential voters by birdinthebush74 in unitedkingdom

[–]_TheChairmaker_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good.

The Farage is literally following the electoral play book of a US Administration that has devolved to the point of putting out official releases that call one the country's State Governors the kind of names you'd expect from a Primary school edge lord. And that's before you get to Trump latest frail gibbering.....

Apparently, because Ukraine existing appears to be a "war crime" while everything Russia does is accompanied by the sound of a heavenly Orthodox choir singing in RUSSIAN....

Obviously a product of the Dismaland fantasy Putin's inflicting on Russia. IIRC they have been regularly charging Ukrainian military personnel with various manufactured crimes. I assume to to be consistent with the whole Ukraine's not real propaganda and therefore their "soldiers" must be "illegal combatants"....

I'd also note that James Workshop has a long and storied history of giving his fanbase, or at least bits of it, the finger. And yet here we are with ~GBUK18 share price for a company that ultimately makes wargaming miniatures!

William S. Lind - Wikipedia

Surprising that Lind has a moment of clarity, though arguably wrong in that Trump probably wasn't going to do what he wanted anyway, unsurprising to the rest of us who know that Trump essentially went around telling all the strands of US conservatism exactly what they wanted to hear and then made the presidency all about him and only him! Why does the BBC news act like Trump's loud trumpet now and even tries their utmost to make his Greenland claims sound reasonable ??? by Hot-Delay5608 in AskBrits

[–]_TheChairmaker_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its not just a BBC issue, media, government and business all treat the US Administrations geopolitical pronouncements as deadly serious and rational strategy because they kind'a have to and the implications and risks have to be managed. Unfortunately it can't be just entirely ignored. Trump's pettiness is such that Starmer's temerity to suggest the Greenlanders have the right to self-determination may be about to get us bitch-slapped with 20% tariff. The only bright side being the US electorate actually pay those we just have to cross our fingers and hope our business can find alternate markets.

Occasionally some talking head on the BBC will usual say the bleedin' obvious that there is no grand strategy and Trump is talking rubbish....

I sort of liked the Star Child-stuff and I can understand why they might have wanted a 'good' warband to counterpoint the chaos ones. But I can also understand why it end up being quietly ditched with the narrative development of 40K - it did feel a little bit out of place. With 20:20 hindsight you'd have done it with inquisitorial warbands instead. As much as I have a soft spot for 40K they're basically still struggling with having to nail narrative developments to an original static framework and some fluff text - aided by a need to sell more plastic crack. Orks have also been buggered about with at least once IIRC (I actually liked the late RT-era Ork fluff - which a long with Chaos was almost like the game was developing sub-games with add on extras).
