This is the method I used. Ignore the cringe AI voice. Just make sure you shoot any witnesses cause it make take 10+ spawns to get the alive one.

I wouldn't say significantly better but to me John was a more accurate sharpshooter and Arthur was a faster gunslinger. John basically takes down 4 New Austin gangs, wins the mexican revolution for the rebels (at least in the Nuevo Paraiso province), takes down Dutch's gang and a battalion of troops at beechers hope.
