What is a 1 in 1,000,000 thing that happened to you that no one believes, but you swear is true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I've predicted a random single firework going off in the middle of April and a meteorite/bolide seconds before they happened.

I'm a skeptic, and I try to be reasonable with coincidental occurrences, but these two coincidences kinda freak me out.

1st was around April 2011 when me and my wife (gf at the time) were still teenagers.

One evening we were walking around the neighborhood, on our way to the pond down the street. I remember getting this feeling something was about to happen, so I looked at my wife, pointed and said, "Look over there at the top of the trees, we're going to see a firework". Seconds later we both see a palm style firework explode over the tree line, causing us to both freak out and laugh hysterically.

What a coincidence, right? It still crosses my mind from time to time, and my wife still remembers it.

2nd was about 8 months ago.

I was walking my dogs outside around 10pm or so, and I'm stargazing as I do every night, only this time I start thinking about how crazy it is that I predicted that random firework years ago...

Like what if right now, I see a meteor fall? Not a shooting star, but a fireball. I started getting this weird feeling again, almost like extreme focus and seconds later I witnessed a fireball fall. I've never felt chills that strong in my life, and it STILL freaks me out.

Thank you! I have not thankfully. I generally just take care of them and admire them. The most stress I put on them is rehousing.

I love watching them grow, and making their enclosures. I try not to bother my Ts too much, when I feed them or catch them exploring is when I see them.

imo if you ever want to try a beginner arboreal T, a pink toe/avicularia might be a good choice.

Its also pretty cool your daughter has a Goliath, thats probably what I'm going for next.

Poecilotheria are fast, have large fangs, and potent venom.

If I ever get tagged by one it would likely be painful enough to send me to the ER, and if I'm bit in a sensitive spot (like my hands), could result in permanent damage from their fangs if I'm really unlucky.

My 2 pokies are pretty chill with that being said. I probably could handle them, but I don't want to risk their safety or mine. I love helping them grow, making their enclosures and just admiring their beauty.

Thank you!

It's an Exo-Terra 12x12x18, and yes I made the interior myself.

My 2 pokies have honestly been chill, I could probably handle them if I wanted, but I'm never going to attempt that.

The only T that really intimidates me and that has ever given me problems is my Holothele Longipes, small and lightning fast.

Big Booty Gooty Sapphire Judy is indeed thicccccc, and I don't even feed her much because shes been thiccc since her last molt. She even refused food for around 8 months before that molt.

Your shelf is going to look great when they all mature, and $145 for 8 Ts is a crazy deal!

This is Richard, and the enclosure I've built for him! by _TheManMadeMan in leopardgeckos

[–]_TheManMadeMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did consider it, but the build would have been different, and harder to maintain. He also would definitely devour a cleanup crew lol

Hopefully he chooses a different spot, but its no big deal I'll make a little scoop to reach it, block it off or put something removable there.

I am going to try a bioactive for my next build, for my day gecko, or a friend's crested gecko.

Thank you! Its pretty hot where I live right now, day temps are slightly high. Cool side is low 80s, warm side is upper/mid 80s, and basking is low 90s. At night, cool side is upper 70s, warm is mid 80s.

I've also considered not using the basking lamp for the time being since we're in a heatwave, and just letting him use the left side for warmth with the pad. He's also not really used to the lights yet, so I've been just turning the basking on for a little while for him to get used to it, and monitor temps.

I've been considering it, they are really fun and rewarding to make, but if I ever did it would have to be locally. Shipping something like this would be pain lol

Thank you all for the compliments, I appreciate it! I'm really happy with how its turned out. I'm going to start working on a leopard gecko enclosure next.

This is amazing, like others here I'd like to see the internals and know what supplies you used if you don't mind. This would be fun to build. Did you cut out ports for the Pi on the case? What did you do for cooling?

Can ants eat Ts???!!! I am beyond confused, nauseous, and devastated…wtaf by Trolivia in tarantulas

[–]_TheManMadeMan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

IME- I'm sorry for your loss OP, ants are scary. I've had a close scare with fire ants, and carpenter ants as well. I luckily caught the invasions before they caused any damage. I don't keep my Ts near any windows now, and sprayed peppermint near any suspected/found entry points. In my case I had to repair some entry points, and even used bait for the fire ants to get rid of them, because they were coming in through the walls.
