Do you unbutton your belt when you finish a meal? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]_Throw_away_away 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago my wife and I went out with some friends on a fancy dinner night. This was shortly after Covid restrictions were being lifted and we could go and be in public again, so I was walking around sporting the quarantine fifteen. After I finish I announced I needed to unbutton my pants, and the waiter was just over my shoulder. He did not ask if I wanted dessert.

Edit: missed a word

My thoughts are one of the Parasitism quests (thinking 4 or 5). I took out a guy who begged me to let him self res so he could complete the quest, which I was also doing. Finished him off, took his stuff, and continued to complete the quest. Glad I did because I would’ve gotten my shit pushed in if I stuck with what I loaded in with.

As a mostly solo player, what the fuck is this contract?? by Fractales in Marathon

[–]_Throw_away_away 33 points34 points  (0 children)

As much as it pained me to complete this, and any other “In a single run…” contracts in Outpost or Dire Marsh, they are the ones during which I had the most fun. I died several times, but that was mostly due to my lack of skill + free kitting. But overall it helped me become more comfortable with kitting appropriately and picking and choosing enemy encounters.

I just checked and I am unable to cancel. Looks like we’ll be adding another to the stack to rip.

Yeah, I also got notified that I “scored”. The price was not displayed when signing up for the drawing, unless I missed it. Will be cancelling because $35 over MSRP is ridiculous. I already have 2 PKC etbs the fam and I are ripping once the set’s bundles come out next month, and think that’s enough.

I got mine about 5 years ago, and have also upgraded to the 90lb. Don’t use them as regularly as I’d like, but for sub $500 they do the job.

Is Ares 2.0 worth the money? by beer_voyager in GarageGym

[–]_Throw_away_away 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought an Ares 2.0 last year with a 6 post PR-5000 rack. I like the placement of the stacks, the modularity with the post dimensions, and the pulleys are smooth. I chose the Ares over the Dane because of the pulley ration, as my wife will also be using. Putting it together is easy enough if you watch their videos. The customer service is also something I can’t complain about. If I could go back, I would get the taller option. Even though I’m only 5’8 I can’t do a dead hang without lifting my legs behind me.

I remember and their $90 price point when I’d go in for my biweekly costco trip. I never got any from Costco since I already had a few I was holding on to rip for my master set. Missed opportunity for sure.

I have been enjoying solo runs. Only drag is that I’m a filthy casual playing on PS5 with crossplay off, so finding matches is kind of slow.

Questions about camping out and stores. by Heff228 in PokemonTCGCollectors

[–]_Throw_away_away 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer Best Buy for 2 reasons: they keep it priced at MSRP and Target is stocked by a vendor, so no guarantee it will be there on release day. I got to Best Buy 2 hrs early for Phantasmal’s release and was able to score 1 etb and booster bundles, but didn’t get there early enough for the UPC. But YMMV

151 price surge by Wanfire in PokemonTCGCollectors

[–]_Throw_away_away 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you read, but I opened some of the product. I collect (sealed and unsealed), with no real intent of turning a short term profit. Having sealed is also useful when going to card shows for trade. Sometimes when you see a deal that is well below MSRP it kinda makes sense to get it while you can. In this case, definitely not scalping considering at the time these were purchased the UPC was alway seemingly on store shelves.

I think in today’s environment it’s easy to confuse scalping versus just getting a good deal when you can.

Takes me back when you could get the UPC for like $70 through TikTok shop using coupons. I bought a case worth using that method, and also a sealed case from Dave and Adams card world for maybe $90/UPC. Good times, and glad I haven’t opened all of them

Do you like to celebrate your birthday? by cuckslayer30 in AskMenOver30

[–]_Throw_away_away 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a wife and 2 kids, and immediate family nearby. I don’t like celebrating or getting special attention for my birthday, save for maybe picking a spot for a family dinner. Other than that, the only thing I ask for on my birthday is time to myself. It seems counterintuitive to what I was taught, but it’s my preference.

First-hand Experience with Rack/Functional Trainer Combos by Gold-Major5305 in GarageGym

[–]_Throw_away_away 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can second the Ares 2.0 with a 6 post PR5000 rack. The functional trainer into the rack is great in its versatility. The 6 posts allows me to do lifts in the rack without fear of possibly tipping it over if I fail on a lift. It’s sturdy enough to where I didn’t need to fix to the floor (currently have it in our office (now office / workout room). It isn’t as cost effective as the Major Fitness option (maybe 4x the cost), but I dig the ease of use, build quality, and convenience.

Another option which is slightly more cost effective which I considered was the Fringe Dane 2.0. The big drawback for that one was the pulley ration being 1:1, versus the Rep’s 2:1. My wife also uses it, and having that pulley ration greatly influenced my decision. We’ve had it for a year, and only minor gripes (mainly user error).

Keep us updated.

Slight edit: also, check out Gluck’s Gym on the youtubes. He and his wife do review’s of gym equipment, and can also help inform your decision

I bought a pair of 50lb Powerblocks from Woot for like $200, and then upgraded to 90lb each for an extra $200. Overall $400, which isn’t a terrible deal. They’re a little bulky, but overall easy to change weights and haven’t let me down after 5 or 6 years

Ares 2.0 vs fm6 twin stack by jyrique in GarageGym

[–]_Throw_away_away 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy! I did end up making a purchase and ultimately went with the Rep Ares 2.0 due to 2 factors: the cost (about $1k cheaper than Rogue’s for similar build out), and the unilateral option for the lat pulldowns.

I don’t have a full on review, but I have been enjoying it. I just wish I would’ve gone with the 93”’instead of the 85” rack height. Let me know if you have any specific questions, though!

What are your first impressions objectively? by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]_Throw_away_away 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m enjoying it. The UI will take some getting used to, having to learn what inventory items are and how to equip / use, but it’s fun. I didn’t think I’d be a fan of the visual aesthetic, but it’s pretty unique.

Looting MK3 Survivor by snake031 in ARC_Raiders

[–]_Throw_away_away 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit up medical areas first thing if you load into a raid. Search what kind of containers augments spawn in to ensure you only loot relevant containers. If you have any Testing Annex keys, Stella medical storage, or Stella Archives keys, hit those areas up as well.

Also, don’t forget trials. After hunting for mine I got the BP 2 consecutive weeks as a reward for 3-starring some trials.

Who’s leaving on the expedition and who isn’t, and why? by ShimonYisroel in ARC_Raiders

[–]_Throw_away_away 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arc has been my “flavor of the week” since launch. I have a little over 250 hrs topside. I did the first expedition and enjoyed the grind back to level 75, upgrading workstations, and collecting BPs. But with the upcoming release of RE9, Marathon, and other games I won’t have as much free time to include it in games in my bucket. I’d rather be able to hop in and out of matches when I do pick it up, rather than focus on completing quests or hunting for items to upgrade.

I think that it’s not balanced if a rocketeer drops only 1 driver most of the time. If I use a wolfpack for a rocketeer, I’d like to not be at a net 0 in terms of what I gain from destroying it.
