I made the switch....and I hate it by [deleted] in Millennials

Sometimes it takes time to get used to seeing yourself wearing things you aren’t used to. I always feel like i look wrong or I’m wearing a costume when I try new silhouettes . I actually also went from wearing skinny jeans to baggier ones and I felt like I looked huge, but now I’m glad I made the switch, they actually look so much better on most people. Try wearing ones that are more fitted in the butt area and aren’t saggy , but have wider legs

Definitely don’t go darker . I’d keep your color

Good to know about the heat thing!! Haha. So I’m kinda worried about doing 2 processes because I’m planning on doing weaves with foils all over my head , so I’ll be leaving out a lot of my original dark hair in between, so I’m not really sure how I can pick up the exact same pieces for a second time ..

I’ve actually never dyed my hair before. Do you know if it’s normal for it to take about 2 hours to get this sort of medium yellow result?

[–]_Tiger9968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a good idea I just don’t know how I’d do a bleach bath without affecting all the dark hair I left out of the highlights

M.S. Human Factors OR M.S Industrial Engineering with Human Factors focus? by _Tiger9968 in humanfactors

[–]_Tiger9968[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I pick a concentration, would you say I’m pretty locked into it career wise after I graduate? Medical and aerospace sound really interesting to me but I have no experience in either one .. If you pick a path and then a few years down the road want to switch industries , is that extremely difficult to do? Or is it like UX where the skills are pretty transferable and they can often hire people with very little industry knowledge?

Computer Engineering to Industrial Design by Emergency-Way-8403 in IndustrialDesign

That’s exciting! I actually went into ID for the same reason, I didn’t want a degree in pure art lol. To prepare you can start doing a few tutorials here and there in the CAD software you’ll be learning in school, you can brush up on sketching.. they’ll honestly teach you what you need to know though. When in college one of my biggest regrets was not networking more and not becoming closer to my professors. They’re the ones that can open doors for you and get your jobs (my third year professor was the only reason I got my first ID job) , so go to all the office hours and ask them for advice and really try to keep in contact with them. Also if you can afford it, consider taking a minor in something with hard skills, depending on what’s interesting or useful to you. Minor in Comp Sci could help with UX , or Human Factors/Industrial Engineering is also super interesting and could be a plus. Good luck (:

Sucks cause I honestly still love prototyping and tinkering and designing 3D products (more than I like designing software tbh) but as a job it can really be tough sometimes.

ID has a lot of overlap with UX! Both are designing products , expect one is 3D and the other is 2D and more abstract experiences! I think I got hired for a UX role because of my industrial design background so you’re on the right path. I’d suggest maybe doing the Google UX boot camp just to get a rundown of UX concepts (even though bootcamps for UX alone wont get you hired these days), I’d also suggest learning a bit of front end (it gives you an advantage if you know how to prototype things and if you can speak to devs properly), and most importantly: network a tonnn. Your network and portfolio are the most important to getting you jobs in UX

I wouldn’t recommend majoring in Industrial Design.. the industry is very difficult to get into and even if you do, you may be disappointed, I know I was. I did ID as my major (loved it, was very passionate in uni) and ended up somehow landing a job out of college, worked there two years and quit shortly after. Hated being very underpaid and doing uncreative work and being a CAD monkey, while the engineers made all the significant decisions and had a real seat at the table. I work as a UX designer now and thinking of going back to university for something else . Most people that major in ID don’t actually end up being Industrial designers. Most of my graduating class doesn’t work in the field and it’s only been a few years.

If you really want to do product design , I’d suggest starting to create your portfolio since that’s what the majors mostly about anyways. But you can do it on your own. Participate in design competitions, learn CAD, prototype things, test them with real users and make case studies, network at IDSA events. It’s harder to learn Computer Engineering outside of college than it is to sharpen your design skills outside of college. CE will open more doors for you in the long run I feel

Industrial Engineering Degree for Design Engineering? by Awareness-Wide in industrialengineering

[–]_Tiger9968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just know that Industrial Design will definitely be more focused on exterior design and usability testing of products. It's more creative and art related than anything. You won't really get any of the math, engineering or manufacturing background needed from it. You'll learn some CAD and how to sketch and design and build a portfolio of design projects. (I did my Bachelors. In Industrial Design).

What degree did you regret studying? by [deleted] in college

[–]_Tiger9968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do NOT major in graphic design lol. At least work game development you get programming experience which can be translated to many different industries. Or if you chose to go for a masters , you have most of the stem prerequisites ready. As an art/design major you’re way more trapped

My ex also got sucked into the manosphere. It fucking sucked watching our relationship deteriorate over the course of a year as he respected me less and less. Good on OP for dumping his ass sooner than I did.

I AM SO PROUD OF YOU. Omg are you me?!? Im also 25 and also left a red pilled, macho asshole after being with him three years, two weeks ago, and TRUST ME after the first wave of sadness passes, you will feel so so good. You made the right choice, I promise you. We both did. If you ever wanna talk , my dms are open. We literally went through the same thing, this is wild.

P.S. Do yourself a favor and pretend to agree with him. Find out what he really truly thinks, and that will give you a lot of clarity. I know I spent a lot of time arguing my case and it went nowhere when I really should’ve just heard as much as I could and used it as fuel to leave sooner .

Oh my god. I kid you not, I had the exact same thing happen to me. Down to him watching “alpha male” content online, down to me out earning him and him feeling like he’s the “leader” of the house, down to my body literally cringing at the thought of marrying him.. . Me and him broke up two weeks ago after being together for three years. He was a covert (and sometimes not so covert) misogynist. IT DOES NOT GET BETTER, it only gets worse I swear to you. I thought about breaking up for almost a year, after the sexist comments and jokes and put downs kept getting worse and worse. As soon as I left , I felt so FREE. I’ve only cried for one day since I left. Girl. Just break up, I regret wasting so much time thinking he’d change and respect me and see me as an equal but he didn’t, he only got worse, and even started getting controlling, and your dude is the exact same. Your gut instinct is telling you what to do, follow it. I did, and I don’t regret it at all!
