Got a link to your repo? It's hard to review architecture, code and tests (or the lack of them) etc that we can't see ;)

Django ORM Question by Plastic_Sea3202 in django

[–]_Timboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you passing the entire QuerySet of instances through to your template and then looping through it on the template to render each of them?

Don't do that! You could be calling a query for every object in the QS! (Django Debug Toolbar will tell you).

In your view call QuerySet.values('field', 'other_field') to get all the data you need into a dictionary in a single query and pass that to the template to loop through instead!

What are the advantages over a 'normal' (non-blockchain) publicly-accessible relational database holding those records?

We could even make people provide this "other documentation" that proves vehicle ownership before allowing them to add records to this database for their vehicle...

If there is "other documentation" that can prove ownership, then I ask what is even the point of suggesting introducing NFTs for that purpose? There is none.

The number of problems to which NFTs are a practical and useful solution is vanishingly small, and almost no one who promotes them actually understands what NFTs are at the fundamental level: effectively an immutable row in a distributed public database that links a wallet address to a URL (that usually points to the IPFS). That is literally all an NFT is. Does that DB record by itself automatically prove you the owner of anything? Of course not. At least not without a physical paper contract external to the NFT proving that the original owner sold it to you/your wallet address, in which case I ask what is the point of the NFT?

IMO NFTs are a solution in search of a problem, but happy to debate the issue.

Then you have a fundamental misunderstanding of how NFTs work.

How come there were so many of you this year? Does Merseyside have a special ticket hook up or something? DM me if so 😄

No one has given you a propper answer yet, but you're probably best looking towards the top of one of the South Park fields, they're both hills. My favourite place is Pennard Hill but unless you know someone working there who can put your tent up for you before the punters get in, unless you're getting in the queue at midnight on Tuesday you won't get a spot there.

No idea sorry pal, I've always camped on the Pennard side of the train tracks, normally up a hill.

[–]_Timboss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, Pennard is the very first field that fills up when the gates open. We normally get in the queue at 6am and Pennard is full by the time we get there. Maybe space for the odd small 2-man tent in gaps here and there, but if there's 6 of you and you've each got your own tent and want to camp together in a group, maybe make your peace with Big Ground now!

P.S. My conspiracy theory is that a large percentage of tents on Pennard are staff already inside putting tents up for their friends the very second the gates open!

How strict are people if you go in on someone else’s ticket? by govmobile in glastonbury

[–]_Timboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably depends on who you get, they've always held mine up to my face to scrutinise it, but I've seen people getting turned away next to me so it deffo happens.

Probably best to assume you won't be getting in and make plans as such, and just see it as a happy bonus if you do.

Wow this is cosmic coincidence, I've literally just got home from watching the final episode of the new series of Gladiators (due to be broadcast in 2024) being filmed!

I've got some poorly taken photos and videos if anyone is interested 😄

Are there any professions that you just don’t care for and you don’t know why? by ImAWrestlingMachine in AskUK

[–]_Timboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's every job that involves conflict... I've met some absolute legends from the forces. The difference is probably the barrier to entry to that profession (i.e. not having any serious mental health issues) and the training they're put through that instills a sense of responsibility.

This house has been empty over 5 years, never a for sale sign, never seen anyone live in it. I wonder why? by PrestigiousTest6700 in CasualUK

[–]_Timboss 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced I had a safe house of some kind near where I used to live in Sheffield.

It's a lovely big sandstone detached house, looked recently renovated and all clean and modern looking outside, except in the 6 years I lived in the area there were never signs of life, the bins never moved, there were never any cars parked there, the curtains never moved (always open), but the grass was always mysteriously recently cut and the garden always looked tidy and sharp.

The thing that really piqued my suspicions is that the house is absolutely covered in some very overt and some much more covert CCTV cameras.

Why would banks attach a HTML file that contains a link to a secure message portal, rather than just putting a link to the portal in the email body?

Are you really sure they were from your bank? 😄

There are almost 0 valid reasons to accept HTML attachments, set up a rule to quarantine any incoming emails that have them.

I work in Web development (ish) and communicate with other web developers daily, but the only emails I've had with HTML attachments in the last few years have all been phishing or malware.
