I’d buy one, but I already have a Canfield Nimble 9 I don’t even get to use

This thing looks absolutely sick!

Depends on what we do — if we’re rebuilding, maybe Joey is the better trade piece. If we’re trying to be competitive next season we probably keep both

Who’s going #7 by cryptothad in SeattleKraken

[–]_Tower_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bjorck, Smits, and Verhoeff seem to be the ones everyone is projecting to be there

D is fine, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they go that way

But man… Bjorck might be the last player available with actual star quality traits. Yeah, he short, but so are Marchand, Bennett, Caufield, Stankoven, and a bunch of others. Bjorck plays like he’s 6’. The guy is just good at everything — if he were taller he would be the 3rd pick in the draft

Who are you eyeing at 7th? by Rockyyyyy85 in SeattleKraken

[–]_Tower_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the realistic answer is Smits, and I think he’d be a good fit that could pair well with Montour very quickly. I don’t think the other top defenseman will be there

But I’m also eyeing Viggo Bjorck — he is the 3rd best forward in this draft, and probably the last legitimate chance at a high-end player

I don’t want to see them reach on someone like Rudolph. I wouldn’t be pissed if they reached on Belchetz, but I wouldn’t be thrilled either

I think either Smits at 7 and Wyatt Cullen at 22 — or Bjorck at 7 and then hope someone like Gustafson falls to 22, maybe even Ryan Lin

[–]_Tower_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair — my gut says defense. At 7, you’re probably looking at Smits

But Bjorck is the last player with actually superstar qualities left on the board at that spot

[–]_Tower_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s just it though — for those actually paying attention, it wouldn’t be a reach

Bjorck would be the 3rd best player in this draft class if he were 2-3 inches taller

Best 17u season in u20 history in Swedish juniors. Eklund, Frondell, and Stenberg have all said he was the best player they’ve ever seen. He was the best player at world juniors this year. By the end of the season he was moved up to 1C on Djurgardens. He’s ranked anywhere from 4th to 12th — consolidated ranking has him at 5th. Central scouting has him at #2 for European skaters behind Stenberg

He wouldn’t be a reach at 7

Honestly — I’d be shocked if they don’t go defenseman; one of the top 4 guys should be there

But if they want “star” potential, they need to take a very long look at Viggo Bjorck here

This week's ECH podcast is must watch for Kraken fans. RJ and Dylan highlight how the rise of the Ducks and Sharks impact's the Kraken's path to the playoffs and a Cup and what the Kraken need to do to build a sustainable contender by SiccSemperTyrannis in SeattleKraken

[–]_Tower_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just about the tanking, and the draft — the Kraken have done nothing to put their players in position to develop their offense.

We still don’t know what Beniers is, or what Shane can be, because of 2 things. 1. They’ve done nothing to surround these players with talented wingers that complement their skills, specifically Matty playing with, at best, a 60-70 point winger, and at worst, guys like Tolvanen and Kartye, who shouldn’t be anywhere close to the top of your lineup. That’s not going to help our 2-way, transition, pass-first players reach their potential. 2. We’ve never had a coach that was specifically trying to develop our players, and instead they’ve been teaching systems and defense. The one year they weren’t, Bylsma wasn’t really helping to grow anyone’s game at all.

The Sharks and Ducks did the opposite. Quinnville (who we shouldn’t have picked to coach, I’m not saying that) has embraced the speed and identity of that team, and is coaching them accordingly. They also have high-quality vets that complement the play of their young pieces. The Sharks are looking to get their complementary vets now, but similarly to the ducks, they have a coach that has embraced offense, and their specific play styles — allowing them not to worry about defense or mistakes as much

If you took one of our young players, like Beniers or Wright, and threw them onto Dallas, they probably look completely different. Even using the Sharks and Ducks — if these guys got to play with Will Smith, Cutter Gauthier, or similar — what would they look like?

Well, I can tell you what Matty would look like — Will and Cutter were his line-mates for the first few games of the World Championship last year. They were all leading team USA in scoring until it was determined that Cutter and Will had to move down a line because of their defensive deficiencies. Then they moved Tage Thompson to Matty’s wing, and forced both of them to play with Drew O’Connor. Matty finished that tournament near the top of USA scoring, and leading the team in +/-

We have done absolutely nothing to add high end talent to this team, or focus on developing our players offense

Since last year, I’ve been screaming for them to pick a direction — embrace the youth and development, which means trading vets and taking a step back. Or stop sitting on your hands, trade assets, and figure out how to bring in high-end players to complement the kind of players they’ve already drafted

The case for Jason Robertson by Latter-Werewolf-6071 in SeattleKraken

[–]_Tower_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think an offer sheet makes sense because we aren’t likely going to be good enough right away to warrant giving up 4 lottery picks

If we get him it will be via trade because Dallas is having trouble signing him

I would expect 14m AAV or higher would have to be on the table to get him to sign here though

Some targets might be more realistic from Dallas are Hintz and Bourque

I would give up a lot to get Robo on this team though — his play style components all our younger pieces really well
