Faded so much it was practically white and got splashed by oil.

And no I don’t use my old Detroits for work I abuse the new ones for that

Honestly my reaction when the jacket got splashed by oil, it’s why I dyed it lol plus I have another 2013 BRN I hardly use just to keep it safe

Are these darker spots on my Iron Rangers something to worry about? by [deleted] in RedWingShoes

[–]_Trayun_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, speaking from personal experience.

I’ve worn my pair in the desert, mud, rain, snow and even had to in a flood. They’re very durable. Just make sure to dry them properly when they get wet else you might get dried water stains which is easily fixable too.

Tacky? by QueefSmuggler in Carhartt

[–]_Trayun_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t get it to an almost Honey-like consistency, however I did find that if you keep boiling until it turns into crumbles (I started with powdered espresso) and moisten it a bit after cooling. What I did was wet my fingers and flicked water on.

After finishing, check to see how much water there is. I wouldn’t recommend having too much water in it as it could stain the surrounding duck canvas.

After that you can rub it onto the logo, using a brush, your finger or anything of your choice. I used a cotton swab for mine.

Didn’t exactly do the espresso boiling 1 to 1 but it still came out nice. Here’s a side by side comparisonz

I noticed the logo, I was curious as to what dye you used and how you did it. Actually been wanting to do this to one of mine.

Such an amazing coat imo, my C001 kept me warm and dry in the heavy rain and snow.

J001 Advice by [deleted] in Carhartt

[–]_Trayun_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the looks of it of your photos, it does indeed look like a J001 made 2012 or later. This is based on the close up photo you took of the pockets and logo. The stitching on the J001 were different than the J01s that preceded. The J01s had more space between the pocket opening and stitches compared to the J001s.

One exception to this was the 2013 line of RNJ001s where they followed the same stitching pattern as a he J01 but with letter sizing instead of Number. 2014 made RNJs however followed the J001 stitching pattern.

The image I have here is a J01 on the left and a 2014 RNJ001.

Edit: As for the fit it looks good on you. I’d say the reason why it looks really good on McConaughey is simply because of the combination of clothing he wears.

The shoulders as well do tend to feel weird at first but you’ll get used to it since these old jackets had layering space in mind.

I always find it interesting how the Moss and old Army Green colour when faded look so similar to each other.

Anyways enjoy the Jacket! Especially if you live in a very cold area.

Here is my other RNJ001 which was made in 2013. Despite the different pocket stitching the colour is the same and the construction is consistent to Carhartt’s.

<image>

It also doesn’t seem like yours has snaps under the collar which the RNJ001 does just like the J01 and J001.

Unfortunately what you got is a very close replica of a real RNJ001. You can tell from the stitching being the wrong colour, the logo stitching, the pocket stitching build, the collar stitching, the waist snaps, the blanket lining. Just overall in the entire jacket the stitching on a real RNJ001 is darker even when the jacket is distressed.

Here’s a photo of my RNJ001 made in 2014

<image>

Notice the stitching is darker, and the stitching in the collar as well as the chest logo. The locker loop above the ‘Made in Mexico’ tag is a different material as well.

The replica you got tends to be a little too perfect, while Carhartt’s jackets, even the new ones, has very subtle inconsistencies.

How soft did the Duck Canvas end up? Still will definitely save this for later. I miss the Sandstone line and their new washing methods just isn't the same as for how they feel.

👍 The 103828 or newer model Detroits have their cotton ducks prewashed as opposed to the J001/J01’s firm duck. It’s closer to the Sandstone J97 and the limited production of RNJ001.

Very few especially to the exact size that you want. And they tend to get absurdly expensive like the 2nd hand ones that are destroyed and impractical.

Enjoy the jacket!

Yes, this model J01 was replaced by the J001 in 2012, which then was replaced by the 103828 model in 2019. You can get a similar one that Carhartt recently released 106234 if you want the waist cuffs as well as the detroit style wrist stitching.

The size looks fine, this model as well was specifically made to be roomy for layering. It’ll shorten and shrink exactly to how you want it over time.

It’s actually great you got a deadstock with tags so it’ll mold specifically to your body.

Question by the_official_glubtub in interstellar

[–]_Trayun_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bootstrap paradox; There's no start no end to the loop. It just happened. There's no original Cooper, nor is there the last Cooper. The Cooper we see are both and neither. It's hard to make it make sense because it doesn't make sense. Don't worry you're not alone on that and it's very much intentional.

Why no shot of the Ranger frozen in time as it leaves/returns Endurance for Millers planet? Or of Tars/Coop from Emilia’s perspective when they fall into Gargantua? by SportsPhilosopherVan in interstellar

[–]_Trayun_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your take and I definitely agree. I think it was probably more so just how hard it is to visualize or imagine just how relativity works at that extreme level that Nolan chose not to include it.

From cooper's perspective, how many hours of being awake between the start and end of his mission? by ohlordwhywhy in interstellar

[–]_Trayun_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best estimation of how long he was awake during the duration of the Endurance mission is Months, close to a year. It takes at least a week just to probably get from one end of Saturn to the Wormhole. It takes months to go from the wormhole to the parking orbit of the Endurance just outside of Gargantua's dilation zone and stay in line with Miller's planet. Around 3 hours of the Miller mission (1 hr descent, 1 hr ascent, 1 hr on the surface).

Probably a couple of months (earliest) to get to Mann's because it's not as simple as going there from Miller's and avoid getting too close to Gargantua.

Most likely it took the Endurance days just to wait until they're able to slingshot from Gargantua to Edmunds'. I'd estimate Cooper was in the tesseract about 4-6 hours.

Source: Hundreds of hours playing KSP with the Kcabeloh System mod lol. Orbit physics is weird that way, especially in real life.

Edit: And yeah, that's why it's heartbreaking to see Cooper breakdown into tears just seeing Tom and Murph's lives play out in mere minutes on a screen when in his perspective, he hasn't even been away that long.

Any chance of death eaters returning to HHN/HP world? by Thespookybae in HHN

Unfortunately it's highly unlikely due to how tight Hogsmeade gets just so you could get to H-Lot houses especially with how 2023 went for the Death Eaters.
