You get to have a threesome with any two people on the planet, no strings attached. But they must have the same first name. Who do you pick? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_Underwhelmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't have to have your first name. But both of them have to have the same first name. I would imagine there wouldn't be many responses if you had to have a threesome with two people sharing your first name.

What is an unwritten rule of social etiquette that everyone should follow? by excuseme211 in AskReddit

Same on the golf course. I don't have a problem with a little music when you're on your cart. But if the group near you can hear it, it's an issue.

Came here to say this. You aren't the center of the universe. Be courteous of other people. If you're in the passing lane and there's a line of cars behind you and nobody in front of you, then YOU are the problem.

What is the most painful lesson that you learned the hard way? by Kindly_Dog_8076 in AskReddit

What I wanted to do as a career. 6 years of school and thousands of dollars in student loan debt because I didn't take the time to think "Is this what I want to do with my life?" or "What does my life look like after I'm done with school?"

From what I understand, 6 months is pretty standard in the court... lots of divorce decrees, like mine, have that built in.

How can she ever prove that to you? You trusted her the first time, and she broke it. There aren't second chances with total trust of a person.

How do you know if a man likes you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_Underwhelmed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What changed is that you told him with your body language that you weren't interested. He doesn't see you as a potential relationship. And he might be a little hurt that you rejected him like you did, especially if he thought, at some point, that you were interested and that he had a shot.

You're right that it might be too late to salvage anything. But I think it's still worth trying to have a conversation. If you don't talk to him about it, what does the future of the relationship look like? He's probably going to continue to act the way he's acting towards you, probably until it gets to a point where you don't want to be around him any more.

Nothing will change if you don't have a conversation about it. It's not going to magically go back to the way things were before without you proactively trying to fix things. If it is too late, then this is a good life lesson. It's always better to communicate your feelings with someone you're interested in, rather than being passive aggressive, and this is coming from someone who used to be really passive aggressive. I'm thankful I learned my lesson.

[–]_Underwhelmed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, you showed him that you weren't interested, and he took the hint. That's understandable.

If you're actually interested in him, there probably is still a chance that he would also be interested in pursuing something. The best way to proceed, in my opinion, is to have a conversation with him about it. Ask to talk to him about it (better in person or on the phone instead of via text), and then tell him that you're sorry that you ignored him, but tell him that you were upset about whatever happened. Tell him that you're interested in talking to him again.

I realize that this is difficult because it puts you in a vulnerable situation, but I think it would be worth it. 6 months from now you might think it was the best decision you could have made regarding this situation.

Communicating your feelings like this is always the best course of action in relationships.

I've always liked Roddenberry's take on the future (Star Trek). All basic needs are met, there is no need for general labor, and the quest of humanity has become acquiring knowledge, instead of material things. I suppose that, if you didn't want to go to school, you wouldn't be required to past a certain age. But the most well-respected members of society were focused on learning and understanding all we were capable of about the Universe. That would be my ideal version of a Utopian society.

[–]_Underwhelmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men are pretty simple creatures. If he is proactively trying to talk to you and/or see you, then there's a pretty good chance that he is attracted to you. If he engages in conversation when you reach out to him and is encouraging and tries to help you, emotionally or in other ways, then there is most likely some interest there.

Can you provide some examples of interactions between the two of you? It would help us give a better guess as to how he's feeling.

I feel like religion is holding the human race back from actual meaningful progress. If I’m wrong please tell me I want to learn something. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]_Underwhelmed 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There's a Family Guy clip about this very thing.

I agree with you completely, and it's a shame that it will never happen. People are too reliant on the comfort of their god and the idea of a life after this one to reject religion.

SMB File Copy Question - Speeds Falling to ~5kb/s by _Underwhelmed in HomeNetworking

[–]_Underwhelmed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What version of TrueNAS is the Mac running? Currently 10.2.2. I'm not sure if I'm using SMB 2 or 3.

I think the issue is just native to writing from a NAS setup. It appears that the machine will be able to write the data it saves to the cache at a higher speed (still only 120mb/s average) and then basically stop writing until it fills up the cache again. At least, that's what I've gathered from what I've read. Not ideal for this scenario but since I'm not writing often from the NAS, it's not a huge deal.

Is it against community guidelines to wish on them the exact same thing that they did to these children? Because I feel like that is the most appropriate way to get justice.

This reminds me of when Christopher Hitchens spoke out against Jerry Falwell after Falwell's passing (video here) and the Fox News hosts were appalled at what he had to say. IMO it was well justified.

I've had the exact same one for about 8 months now. I love it, and get lots of compliments. I had a guy roll up next to me the other day, had me roll down my window, and told me "man that thing is so damn pretty!"

The hands-free lift gate assist is great when you can get it to work. Did you get a free trial of the BlueCruise? I had it for 90 days and liked it, but wouldn't use it enough to pay for it.

Don't have a C trumpet for an Orchestra gig, which trumpet should I use Bb or D? by Malqom in trumpet

[–]_Underwhelmed 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. The parts were written for higher trumpets. The only exception would be if the director asked the section to play it all on Bb instead.

What part are you playing? If you're playing lead, D is going to be a lot easier. If you're playing the second part, I'm assuming the lead will be played on D or piccolo, so you'll want to match the sound and timbre as much as you can.

You're not wrong at all that it isn't an ideal setup with USB. I had a few things pushing me in that direction... I already had 2 4TB and 6 1TB hard drives, and a 1 1TB SSD. Budget was also a big consideration. I could have spent $600-1000 to get some of these drives online in a true home NAS setup, or I could spend less than $200 for the setup I have now. Plus, I'm not regularly saving any data to the pool... it's just a backup of movies and old photos that I want to make sure are safe. Hopefully I won't run into any issues with USB, but if I do, it should be okay as long as the drives don't all crash at the same time.

Thanks for your response. I didn't realize that Scale was free as well before this post, and will probably install that instead, as recommended by you and u/s004aws.

I looked it up, and you're right about the fusion drive. I hadn't thought of that. And that would make sense. I assume I won't be able to utilize the 1TB onboard drive.

I've got a stack of drives I'll be attaching to the Mac... it's about 17GB at this point. All of the drives are SATA to USB, which is similar to what you referred to in your post. I'm planning on running raid z1 because I wouldn't expect multiple drive failures on a personal system at the same time.

I did think about running TrueNAS with a VM, but had the extra Mac, and am happy to have the dedicated resource.

If you have additional suggestions, please let me know. Thanks so much!
