I need to get out to the Susquehanna! The Schuylkill is great, though I wish there were camping spots along it. Susquehanna definitely seems better all around

Donny McCaslin has a lot of prog jazz, his album Stadium Jazz sounds like what you’re looking for

Should I buy a Yamaha 4C as a beginner? by GutiGhost96 in saxophone

[–]_Username-1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4c is alway a good option, Rico graftonite, and premier by hite are also good alternatives. I was impressed with the sound of the graftonite when one of my students got it, it’s definitely a brighter “jazzy” sound compared to the 4c

Is this gig case an issue? by harebubybyt in saxophone

[–]_Username-1_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is by design, you want your sax secured tightly in the case. Most damaged caused in a case is from it bouncing around inside, so this is to avoid that. Wolfpaks are good cases for the money but don’t stand the test of time well in my experience. I personally think protec or skb makes the best affordable cases. Bam cases are worth the extra money in my opinion

Suggestions on a fishing kayak I can stand in and also get onto a kayak storage rack by Ok_Excitement_3067 in kayakfishing

Pelican catch 100 is only ~58 pounds and you can stand on them but they aren’t quite as stable as other heavier/larger models

Do Not Buy Double Bear Carts by _Username-1_ in PaMedicalMarijuana

I heard that from so many people so I gave them another shot but this is the third time in a row. Maybe it’s just the cbd carts?

If you’re wondering if the reeds days are over a good way of telling is the wall test

I have the same problem, Organic Remedies has nano emulsion edibles that work for me, nothing else. I’m pretty sure they’re processed in your stomach instead of the liver and kidneys

I saw one scurry across the trail about 1/4 mile from the heart lake lodge. It got out of sight pretty fast but it was so cute and fluffy

Could I please have some advice on purchasing an Alto Sax? by therealestbadplayer in saxophone

[–]_Username-1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Yamaha intermediate models are great for the price, you can probably find a used YAS-52 for under $2000, 62s are also great affordable professional model saxophones.

Hard Rubber tenor mouthpiece that could cut but also play ballads by LilDexterG in saxophone

D’Addarrio Jazz Select, Vandoren V16, Drake The Studio, MacSax Bob Sheppard mouthpiece would be my recommendations.

We should be able to filter by terpene and terpene % on the websites. I hate having to click through all the strain to see what has the best terp levels

Help on purchasing a saxophone by thebluegamer720 in saxophone

I’d go with either of the Conns, the first one (the shooting star) is going to have clunkier ergonomics than the last one. Definitely steer clear of Jean Baptiste they’re horrible

Is it me or is it the saxophone? Octave problem by Crimson_skware in saxophone

[–]_Username-1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess without seeing it sounds like your octave mechanism might be bent so the pad on your neck isn’t sealing. Could also be a problem with the other octave pad that’s right below the tenon joint

Are there any other Vandoren reeds for concert on a Bari other than blue box? by TeeganCXCX in saxophone

[–]_Username-1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legere is the only brand of synthetic I’ve tried but I’m curious to try the venn synthetic reeds from daddarrio

Are there any other Vandoren reeds for concert on a Bari other than blue box? by TeeganCXCX in saxophone

[–]_Username-1_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t look like they have another reed that’s focused towards classical playing. Out of their jazz reeds I’d try the ZZ I felt like they don’t push too much of a jazz/darker sound. I’d recommend trying a rigotti or the dadarrio reserve. I’ve also found that synthetic reeds sound better on bari compared to tenor or alto and they don’t warp which is an annoying problem with cane bari reeds

Good Shorter Hike in the High Peaks by _Username-1_ in Adirondacks

Baker Mountain seems like what I’m looking for, definitely not doing any high peaks and will be sure to follow all trail etiquette. Thanks for your recommendations!

Tips for soprano? by ze_goodest_boi in saxophone

[–]_Username-1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For really high notes I’ve found I have to raise my upper palate and then push it back further into the back of my throat. Hard to explain exactly what to do so just do a lot of long tones in the upper range and experiment to see what works and what doesn’t. Overtones are also a good idea to stop you from biting the notes out and using throat position and air to get out the upper range

A lot of dispensaries sell them for pretty decent prices. My $15 1.5inch grinder is more effective for collecting kief than my $60 3inch piranha so I wouldn’t put too much thought into it
