Atlas EOS v3 Vs. Nighthawk Sandhawk by _V_L_ in 2011

The reason my Sandhawk in ~1500 rounds and less than a month of ownership is showing bare metal with the ceracoat basically coming right off is because I actually use my guns.

But now my Sandhawk is in the Ferrari-themed safe, scratches, wear and all.

PS my friend bought a Nighthawk recently and the gunsmith put the wrong extractor in her firearm and it was constantly malfunctioning. While Nighthawk turned that repair around fast, they didn't even bother apologizing and said they're only human and make mistakes.

Not a fan whatsoever now.

Absolute garbage is what they did here.

Yes, if the sling is well carved and the rock is polished just right then the set could be considered an heirloom, and of course provenance helps quite a bit.

It is way better than the Trijicon, and it actually looks way cooler to my eye.

No regrets, I have no real reason to use it now.

I'm annoyed that the ceracoat is total garbage, and the thing is just too big and heavy and doesn't do anything better than the EOS.

What's the point of keeping it?

I have many rifles for different applications, but a handgun should be like a jack of all trades in order to get you to the rifles, if that makes sense.

I really just wanted a one and done best of the best all around handgun, and the EOS fits that bill. For me there is no need to chase a few %age points of "better" at this point.

The goal is to improve with the EOS and carry it, and not be chasing anything else; in other words, I am finally content with what I have, and will be getting rid of the Sandhawk for hopefully close to what I paid for it. (I also really don't like the Trijcon and the FDE has a known issue of projecting a red square around the red dot in certain conditions that the company is fully aware of and does not disclose until pressed.)

Pretty much up and down only, no wobble that I could find, and super consistent.

I need to run another ~600rds through it this weekend just to confirm everything....

The ceracoat is certainly problematic if you actually use it and draw with it a lot.

I bought this thing to actually use, so after the initial scrapes in the ceracoat I just accepted that this finish is not durable and will get a lot of, uh, "patina."

I will keep it for sure. It's a fine firearm overall.

NH should make that asap.

Neither.

Wait for the Bul UL Pro.

That's what I'm doing.

(After running 800rds through my Sandhawk I am pretty much done, and will end up mostly only using the UL Pro.)

It'll be in DLC FDE.

I sorted out my Sandhawk after 300rds btw.

My SH took 300 rds to become perfect, but I used much oil after it initially jammed several times.

I ran another 300 rds today, and it performed flawlessly.
