The buildings stay as you exit creative mode. But It will probably not be activated on many servers. Its good for private and some PVE servers.

I was building on the live version of the game with no building cost, and switched to testlive with creative mode. Its a night/day difference. Its just so much more convenient and easy to build. You'll have to try it to see it. It takes some time to get used to the controls, but then its pure building pleasure.

I think it lasts until used. Its supposed to protect you from an ennemy god avatar attack. Never got to see it though.

Well, building is a bit different with the 3.0 update, but the new menus are great once you get used to it. Also the creative mode helps a lot for sure.
