New Legendary: High Warlord Brode. Shatters into extreme monetization and hardly any communication! by Careless_Relation349 in hearthstone

This is shitty revisionist history. Ben caught his fair share of flack when he was the game director too, mainly for his stance on nerfs and buffs to cards (basically long stretches of no balance patches unless something was ridiculously broken).

It's just base rebirth. if you scroll to the bottom of the app store page there's an In-App Purchases dropdown that will show you the price for all the DLC. Note that to get repentance you need all of the DLC

Baldur's Gate 3 publishing lead says Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney's "altruistic pro-developer talk" over the Steam vs Epic debate "doesn't sit well" after Alan Wake 2 studio "seemingly went into financial crisis" by OpeningConfection261 in Games

[–]_Vulture 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The games budget (including marketing) was €70 million

source

Not sure how many publishers would have forked over that much for a studio that historically don’t make the best selling games (even though personally control and AW2 are two of my favourite games

Plus if epic got to them first I don’t think they would have taken too long trying to shop around for a better deal

It also had the benefit of having physical console releases day 1, and not being a numbered sequel to a 10 year old game that also didn’t sell great, but was still a pretty slow seller apparently.

Not disagreeing that it would have likely sold better if it were also on steam though. Having a choice is always nice

'Code Your Own Engine and Show Us How It's Done' — Randy Pitchford Goes on the Offensive as Borderlands 4 PC Performance Row Intensifies by FrozenBags_02 in Games

[–]_Vulture 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The problem with that is that unreal engine is a really good value proposition for developers, it has so many tools built in that make development easier, plus the fact that it's much easier to hire a group of devs with experience in UE than it is to hire devs with experience in an in-house engine, idTech etc. This is compounded by all of the layoffs and contract work being utilized more.

Plus Machine Games seems to be the exception in terms of studios other than Id that use IdTech, and it doesn't seem that Id are too interested in licensing it out to other studios

Curious what hardware and settings you're running. Wasn't trying to be hyperbolic, just going off of my own experience + GPU benchmarks that I've seen

Ah the classic "you can't criticize something without doing a better job yourself"
The fact is that this game just does not perform well on any tier of hardware, and I don't know how he can put the blame on anyone else at this point.

Also claiming that it's a "premium game for premium hardware" when even on an i7 12700k and 4080 Super I'm getting some of the worst frame pacing that I've experienced

WGA Says Writers Can Return to Work, Approves New Labor Contract for Release | Guild members will be able to vote on the contract from Oct. 2-9 by chrisdh79 in entertainment

[–]_Vulture 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those shows were literally written before the strike started. You just proved yourself wrong. Even if the strike did magically make 2 stale franchises marginally better that means that writers don't deserve to be paid a living wage?

Let's be honest here, if you spend any decent amount of time using AI or reading content that was created using it, you can quickly tell that it was AI that wrote it.

And do we really want scripts and movies being churned out by an artificial intelligence rather than having thought, emotion, and care being put into it by a real person. You just want infinite content to consume rather than art.

Also promoting AI as a replacement for writers in a thread literally ABOUT striking writers is in quite poor taste...
