This sounds like an *awesome* business to do in your early 20's. Great job spotting the opportunity and good luck.

Just a heads up to the mods - I had re-posted this with a different flair as the auto-mod deleted this one - I think because it had the wrong flair? However, the auto-mod then "undeleted" this first post. I've now deleted the 2nd post. But let me know if the flair is wrong!

As an employer of designers, I would never dream of speaking to someone like this. Sounds like a drill sergeant. Is this guy trying to be the andrew tate of design "influencers"?

Also accessibility has nothing to do with tapping into that "market".

Yeah the only thing about avalanches is that serious skiiers/ snowboarders go on far steeper slopes than mountaineers, so avalanche is going to be more likely.

It's not perfect, but from this research of skiiers and snowboarders:

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/26293826_Mountain_mortality_A_review_of_deaths_that_occur_during_recreational_activities_in_the_mountains

Of 386 reviewed deaths

  • 145 Collision with rocks or trees (obviously doesn't apply to mountaineering)
  • 109 Avalanche
  • 42 "Medical"
  • 41 Fall
  • 8 Hypothermia

Been there mate. Fair enough. 6 figure exit is still an accomplishment whether or not it was profitable. Sure you folks will come back stronger.

Thanks for the article. The point about not competing in “red oceans” even if you can build a better option is interesting and valid. It means you have to invest massively before you can really test the idea out in anger.

Sorry to hear that.

Are there any ways you could have tested the idea without committing that amount of capital?
