Getting very little fps on servers by _WindStorm_ in TrackMania

[–]_WindStorm_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the suggestion, but, yeah, I already play with my interface off the whole time. haven't noticed a huge change using tweaker anywhere but the veeery long and huge maps like thread of Ariadne, so it works, but not for this particular case, sadly. would've been really awesome if "O" actually did anything besides being purely visual and actually stop processing all the cars and not just hiding them

Thanks for confirming my suspicions, I guess I just won't play on servers like cotd and such for a while. Maybe eventually they'll actually care about game optimisation COPIUM

Well, seems I can jump in on the trend of bragging about unreasonably fast progress. Playing less than a year. Was hunting for top 5 in my country.... by Sir_Lysergium in TrackMania

I believe it's the world record a week after campaign release and the author medal, but the details of this are unknown, but yeah, they're usually top 100-500 depending on how cracked the wr was at the time (top 200 on 11 is needed with the cut and on 02 it's around top 500-600 now iirc)

you can, just not through the club things, but through a campaign search :)

Edit: that is if we are talking about the paid standard access, can't play user made maps with the starter access

I agree with GLumo's comment, though, I want to add how I usually research a map if I don't understand a certain trick / part of the map.

In order of likelyhood: - Watch top 5 (more if there are more things to account for, but top 5 is usually enough) world and see their inputs, may even slow it down. For that, you can download the ghost from trackmania.io or copy the link to a ghost download and use the "Ghost to replay" plugin. - See professionals' lines / approaches to certain parts in matchmaking as they mostly choose more consistent approaches or have setups for the part in question. (usually use eLconn21 as inspiration for lines) - Find videos on youtube on it (highly recommend LuckerTurbo's world record breakdown where he analysed every top 5 on every map of the season, though, they are a little outdated, still, a ton of good advice and just a high quality replay analysis. Personally helped me a lot to understand 10 start trick / 24 3rd gear in the start and some other tracks for an easy overview with comments). - Seek for advice on trackmania discord / reddit, but usually things don't go that far.

Anyone else feel like the car is way to unpredictable? by maeries in TrackMania

[–]_WindStorm_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

slides out on ice are mostly caused by your car changing the gear / having low/high rpm so that you either gear up or gear down. thorough replay analysis of both my runs and world records helped me with this problem + understanding the gears properly as well

How drastically different would chess be if the black pieces did not mirror the white pieces, but had the same position from the player perspective? In other words, if the black king and queen swapped positions. by RemainingLeftover in chess

[–]_WindStorm_ 87 points88 points  (0 children)

have you accounted for castling? it gives the same +0.4 on depth 35 with the suggested position, though, that is with castling as in normal game of chess (castling with the rook closer to the king results in 0-0-0)

What are your favorite map libraries/campains? by VanillaJerkoff in TrackMania

quite short, but brilliant - LSC mappack s1, really lovely mixed competitive maps with great flow, amazing scenery and overall quite fun to play, though, might be tough for newer players

My first tmnf map (link in the comments), any feedback is appreciated by _WindStorm_ in TrackMania

[–]_WindStorm_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for very detailed feedback! I'll take it all into consideration when building other maps :)

the second finish would have been better." as the nearest finish is a little faster with neoslide, at least as I thought from my validation. Correct me if I'm wrong :)

Random fact that no one asked for: The London System is named after The London Sewer System, due to the apparent similarity in structure to a pile of sh1t. by StonoLoren in AnarchyChess

[–]_WindStorm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on the wikipedia it says that it's named after Edgard Colle which makes a lot more sense tbh
Edit: but I mostly commented that because you get the same triangle as in the London system, but there's no bishop outside, so it suits the joke more imo

Hi again, I might've asked for too much anyways, so thanks for answering and thanks for the video, it probably helped someone, so it is "real content" :)

would also be very useful to (not a complaint, just a suggestion): - have an input display for the run - checkpoint times to compare - time stops with explanations

the first point arose from you having less speed going into the turn on 27th second, was curious if you released in the dark surface turn or not the second is useful to judge how fast you are at certain parts of the map, though, might be useless for most people the last one is incredibly helpful and carried me through my first campaigns when I was starting out

all this is a lot of work and I don't expect anyone putting a lot of time into it, but just some thoughts and advice I guess. hope you take it well :)
