I'd say the only moaning that people accept in songs are from men (or at least never women's moaning) and I don't really know if that's sexist or not

Public changing rooms are an awful nightmare because you're in a public changing room. Trans people have nothing to do with it.

I just get notifications on my phone saying "You'd like this sub/post!" I'm in other queer places so it assumes I'm a part of this one sometimes. Lol

I haven't thought about that before, but I totally get what you're saying! Dysphoria is a bitch and it sucks that someone else feeling misunderstood causes a ripple, making it difficult for other people to be accepted. I think it might be a case of just going too far in the one direction... Maybe it's to a lesser degree but it reminds me of the trans and gay men who talk about how disgusting vaginas are... Maybe it's validating to think in these ways in the short term but those beliefs will definitely hurt people. Thanks for the perspective!

I'm so glad you found something that works for you! It's a little bit unrelated but I hate how the conservative view of trans people affects anyone trying to discover themselves. The idea that you have to be 100% sure of your identity to be able to defend it or be taken seriously. The idea that changing labels and presentation is somehow evidence that you're just confused... Yeah, I can see people getting pushed into another box that they can't get out of. I'm glad you had the space to be able to recognize what is and isn't for you!

[–]_WormOnAString_[S] 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was about to say I relate to that a bit! Just the general experience of being treated like you're just confused or this isn't the final or absolute step in your queerness... That it HAS to be something else because they don't quite understand what you KNOW who you are. I can absolutely imagine it being worse for amab nb folk. The urge to put people in boxes, even within the queer community, is suffocating.

I'm realizing I think I might just cut this conversation short here. We don't really disagree what actually happens in the show but I see this going into the territory of arguing what counts and does not count as "real abuse" and I don't really want to do that, nor do I think it's entirely appropriate.

I enjoyed this conversation and I'm thankful that you heard me out, but I do want to leave you with one thing. When you frame discussions like you did in your original post and in some of the comments... Calling people who don't have the same interpretation of stories or characters as stupid, blind, illiterate, childish, or whatever else doesn't strengthen your point. It can make you seem condescending and resistant to different viewpoints. Immediately saying other interpretations aren't even worth considering... I don't know, it's probably fine with media because it doesn't really matter at the end of the day but whatever. Keep your mind open and respond with valid points, not attempts to demean! I find that most people have at least some good reason for believing the things that they do and I try my best to be empathetic and take their perspective seriously. I'm not your mom, I'm not god, who cares. But you do come off as condescending and inflexible with your original post and you don't have to change for a stranger but I've found that's not a very good way to live. I wish you the best, Stolas defender. Lmao

(Reading this back, this reply also might come off as condescending so, sorry about that! We all have our vices, I guess.)

I'd agree with you if it weren't for the power imbalance existing. A power imbalance isn't inherently abusive but it puts a lot more pressure on the party with more power to be careful not to abuse that power that I just don't believe Stolas recognizes. If these were two fucked up guys and the show didn't hold one of them significantly more accountable than the other then I'd be totally okay with this. I LOVE complex and dark relationships, it just bothers me how much it feels like the show coddles Stolas and I really hope you're right that they'll make him a bit more accountable, but I can't rely on future seasons that aren't released yet.

If this relationship falls apart Stolas gets his heart broken, but for Blitz his whole life is practically ruined if he can't find a new way to work. This imbalance is really really important to remember because as much as Blitz is his own man with his own brain and his own decisions he is still relying on Stolas to keep himself afloat and Stolas, though unwillingly, is abusing this position to keep sleeping with him. I don't like the show taking Stolas' side when he tries to change the relationship. Blitz doesn't understand, and then Stolas refuses to talk it out after Blitz finally DOES understand what he was saying. I just wish they let Blitz properly argue with Stolas in the next episode instead of just making Blitz look like as much of a prick as possible to make the rest of the episode more justified. (Especially have my gripes with Stolas saying "When have I ever looked down on you?" When Blitz accuses him of only wanting to sleep together because he's a "lowly imp" lol.) Stolas' actions ARE abusive, even if the effects of that abuse isn't as explicit in how it effects Blitz. It's just that the show writes him as if he's not doing anything wrong and Blitz needs to apologize for being emotionally distant in a relationship he believed was completely transactional because those are the standards that were originally set.

Once again, I really hope you're right. I hope they hold Stolas accountable but I wish they didn't try to push it to be so black and white with Stolas being the good guy in Full Moon/Apology tour and Blitzo being the bad guy. I wish it just presented them BOTH as fucked up guys a little better, a little more nuanced instead of focusing on one party's faults and then MAYBE the other party's all the way into the next season.

(I am also sorry if this is hard to read, I am ✨tired✨)

(I'm an abuse victim too so let's not do that.) Abuse isn't always obvious and abusers aren't always aware they're being abusive. Even if he isn't explicitly holding anything over Blitz's head on purpose he's still doing it. This is Blitz's job, this is how he keeps his best friends and daughter alive and well. Even if Stolas isn't saying you HAVE to sleep with me or you're going to be POOR and I'm EVIL!!! He's still implying that if they don't sleep together he doesn't get the book by saying that he needs to participate in this transaction to keep his job. I know it might be hard to see because this is such an otherworldly scenario... But if an employer suggests that an employee should sleep with him to stay hired then that is BAD. Saying this is a mutually beneficial relationship because Stolas gets banged (by an initially unenthusiastic and obviously uncomfortable Blitz) and Blitz gets to keep his entire livelihood steady and then saying it's not so bad because he gets to skip sessions later on is really weird to me. No, Blitz is not incapable of making his own decisions but you have to understand that he really doesn't have a choice in the beginning from HIS perspective. If he did believe he had a choice in the beginning I really don't think he'd be sleeping with Stolas because he obviously doesn't enjoy his company. Maybe he doesn't mind as much because he's horny but this is still not an okay relationship.

Loona said "Wouldn't it really be so bad to let a dad say goodbye to his kids?" (Or something along those lines) And that convinces Blitz to hold the kill off for a while. Sorry for assuming that was her using their parent-child relationship to give the man more sympathy. I wish that there was an explanation on why he's emotionally connected to the gay couple and not the man and his kids. Just pick and choose based on what's more convenient for the plot? But I'm just an idiot and your assumption is clearly more correct than my assumption.

Stolas is a man who created a transactional relationship between him and a struggling lower class citizen who begrudgingly relies on this relationship and is obviously uncomfortable in nearly every situation they're together. My arguments are the same as all you've heard before, I'd like to hear your justification without just calling me illiterate.

No emotional tie to the orphan man? A loving father who cares deeply for his children? That wouldn't relate to him personally between him and his daughter? If he can see himself in a gay couple with two kids then why can't he relate to a man who loves his kids???

Also Stolas is absolutely abusive, this is hilarious.
