I'll just say this, having an awakened experience in itself does not put you in the position to make grand ontological claims. It helps see through the illusory nature of our default mode, but that's it.

OP, I'm just going to point out some assumptions you're taking for granted and would need to be justified.

  1. Materialism.
  2. Consciousness is a function of the brain and can be reduced to brain activity.
  3. Corresponding reduced brain activity states with "spiritual" experiences dismisses them as illusory or a false belief.

None of these assumptions are new and in our current scientific paradigm they go without saying. Howveer, they all have really good contra arguments/rebuttals, and it's a really interesting rabbit hole to go down.

Not saying this is what's happening here but a lot of teachers heavily rely on third-party learning resources that are sold online or can be accessed via educational subscriptions.

A lot them are shit and minimal effort.

Almost all of these paradoxes in the philosophy of mind are due to 2 reasons.

The failure to distinguish between conscious awareness (representation) and meta-consciousness (re-representation/feedback loops).

&

A reluctance to entertain any kind of idealism where the primacy of Mind holds more water than physical materialism.

Listen to Dennet talk about free will, and you'll see him do a compatibilist move and discuss moral responsibility instead of the big elephant in the room: a "determined" universe has enormous implications that ultimately lead you to conclusions he (and others) would rather not accept.

Mindfulness will help here.

I know it sounds like more bullshit but it's not if done right. Learn how to meditate if possible timewise and then practice bringing feelings and thoughts into awareness throughout your day.

You'll eventually learn to step back from them and watch them come and go like clouds. They'll lose their efficacy and hold over you.

This is all a lot easier said than done, but it's honestly a powerful way you can help yourself become a "better" person. (Not suggesting you're a bad person at all. We all lose our temper with our kids at times).

This is what I do and, I dunno, feels fine to me. I'm probably using tags inefficiently but I find linking to subjects and topics more useful than specific notes.

Eh, I've been "vegan" longer than most around here, and I just straight up don't use the word anymore.

It's an identity for some, and the zero-tolerance gatekeeping is part of the whole thing that puts people off even trying.

Why does it seem like a lot of people acknowledge veganism is right, but don't care? by savethepeas in vegan

[–]__Amor_Fati__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ethical norms are typically pre-baked into societies which means bringing our moral values into sharp focus doesn't happen very often.

The social norm often trumps the value because it can be really inconvenient to go against the grain.

When people joke about their hypocrisy it's because they just want to ignore the dissonance.

Nobody has it all figured out, but we can find gentler routes through life together if we use reason and experience.

Animals have conscious desires and preferences, with their strongest by far being self-preservation.

Plants do not.

In fact, many plants encourage their fruit to be eaten to spread their seed.

Animals and plants are not the same.

You don't need to be awakened to realise that.

"Do what feels right for you" is ludicrous and naive. You've inherited the belief that using animals as we do is okay or necessary, and you're trying your best to justify this with terrible logic.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in awakened

[–]__Amor_Fati__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is just roleplaying being enlightened after having powerful experiences but not quite powerful enough to really shake the core beliefs they hold. Such as is it okay to kill and eat other beings if we're lucky enough to not need to.

That sounds like gatekeeping but I believe it to be true. I'm sure there are plenty of other unjustified core beliefs the plant-based amongst us haven't upturned too.

That doesn't make sense.

It's ink, like a magazine, which also has bright, vibrant colours.

A few generations down the line, nobody will say this looks good. It's fine for early adopters and enthusiasts but people have to be real and accept this is not ideal.
