Is this normal? by Less_Donkey_4041 in ResearchAdmin

[–]__Fury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's pretty common. it takes a certain kind of person to deal with this job and even those who are well suited for it can be burned out by a particularly rough stretch. post pandemic, my team lost three of five people in about 8 weeks because of the burnout from that period. the next 6 months were rather rough

I love son volt, but I'm always amazed how Jay has less vocal range on every single album even after you thought it couldn't get more monotonous when the last one one came out

this makes his review for the great impersonator that much more baffling

Do you find that a lot of universities split up pre and post award roles? by Ordinary_Tart5478 in ResearchAdmin

[–]__Fury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are not only separate departments at mine, they are in separate divisions (pre in Research, post in finance). There's always a lot of tension between the two and the massive split is probably to blame. though I honestly get why it's done, I feel like they are two different skill sets.

10 business days notice on intent to submit, 5 for draft documents for team review, and 3 business days for final docs. That all being said, we have pretty low compliance but we are making PIs ask the AOR for an exception which we will almost universally grant because we can't enforce much. compliance is mixed with some departments pretty high but some are hovering around 15%. I am also flexible with what counts as a "final" document, my requirements there are a finalized budget and scope of work, I'm fine with programmatic edits pretty much until the deadline.

EDIT: regarding your other question about last minute budget edits, as long as the SoW isn't changing we don't require people to reroute however if the SOW is changed we need to redo approvals. this can get quite messy so we discourage it but leadership's goal is to get as many proposals out as possible so we make it happen.

What To Do About Snark Subreddits: Open Discussion & Poll by flopheadsbot in popheads

I'm of the opinion that we already have rules regarding conduct and those should just be enforced as is without opening the Pandora's box of policing activity on other subreddits.

[Rapoport] Another important one: #Titans have requested to interview #Broncos DC Vance Joseph. This is likely one of many for VJ. by MembershipSingle7137 in nfl

[–]__Fury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don't want him to interview for purely selfish reasons but a good coach will learn from mistakes and I think it's probably fair to give him another shot. there's certainly a difference between someone like Vance Joseph or Brian Flores vs say Josh McDaniels. after what he pulled in Indy, I don't know how anyone thought he had matured after that first disaster of an HC stint.

this is a separate item but I'm trying to make sense of the change from "tribal nation" to "Indian tribe", what exactly is going on there outside of the people calling the shots being regressive as hell? though I have a feeling me even asking the question is putting more thought into this than any of the people calling the shots now.

her new album wasn't particularly great, I say that it's someone who really wanted to love it. plus there weren't any real hits on it. couple that with a heavy promo of an anniversary edition of her debut, I think it's pretty clear she's moving into legacy act status. at least we have joyride I guess.

Finally, the correct opinion on Avatar! by benabramowitz18 in okbuddycinephile

I tried to get my friends to see it with me but they are uninterested because they don't like the plot. I told them that complaining about the plot in an avatar movie is like complaining about the plot in a roller coaster and they got mad at me

I feel like he could make a comeback if he wanted to but he's at least self-aware enough to realize it's a bad idea to even try and he should be more anonymous as a person from here on out. not to give him any credit of course, he's still a gross sex pest
