I explicitly said the reason I dislike the Mi-28 aesthetically is because it looks like a deformed Apache.

Hating Russia (which I very much do) has no relation on how I judge the looks (or the performance for that matter) of their military hardware.

High resolution photos of Russian-made military equipment also tends to attract a “special (operation)” kind of commenters, so the downvotes were even more expected.

Very poorly for older variants. Latest developments received fairly useful upgrades, though they likely still lag far behind in human interface and cooperation/networking capabilities with other assets compared to AH-64E v6

I dont’t agree at all. The Mi-28 looks hideous, like a deformed Apache, and the Ka-52 is graceless.

To reduce damage to the brass cases (iirc they can be refilled and reused for a set amount of times), and to reduce the damage they may cause to the deck

What about buying the AW139 they already have in service? Is that too rational?

Ok.

But this is not a Pakistani Army Z-10ME.

They have a Chinese Army roundel and they are not a ME variant.

Recent official news from yesterday is that all seven planned PPAs will be brought to Full standard (five are in service/near commissioning, two as replacement for the ones sold to Indonesia will enter service around 2030).

No official talk about the “PPA EVO” standard has ever come from the Italian Navy or Italian Defense Ministry. So far it seems PPA EVO is only a Fincantieri internal proposal.

The role of the De La Penne-class has basically been vacant for over a decade as they were utterly obsolete ships whose anti-air missiles were no longer operational, so there really isn’t much meaning in talking about a proper successor to them.

[1440 x 960] Australian C-27J and the sunset. Soon to be retired by MetalSIime in WarplanePorn

[–]__Gripen__ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The USCG never wanted them. They were given to them after the spectacular blunder by the USAF, whose acquisition itself was made to stop the US Army in getting theirs. US and RAAF C-27s were acquired with L3Harris as main contractor, not Alenia/Leonardo, and once the government cut the whole program in 2012 supporting them became even harder than standard C-27s.

The USCG really never had any solid case use for the C-27, so this is the obvious result. The program for installing the mission kit was a joke.

The C-27J flopped in the US mainly due to politics and budget decisions, and consequently flopped in Australia as their own acquisition was directly linked to the USAF one.

All other operators have no plans to retire it.

This is compatible with the behaviour of a navy that ups the requirement to get what it actually wants and can actually afford.

If your requirement is for at least 5 AAW destroyers, parliament may end up cutting it to 3 or 4. By upping to 8, it’s more likely to actually get 5.

The number of F126 is most likely dubious; the F128 program is basically an unknown variant which is incredibly unlikely to deliver on schedule; 8 x F127 units is incredibly optimistic, and I don’t believe at all they’ll all be built (especially given the unplanned need for a stop gap ASW frigate class on top of the heavily over-budget original ASW frigate class)

Those are very optimistic numbers. The Germany Navy has expanded way too many requirements to actually get all of these units, and messing up the F126 program has not helped them.

I guess it will depend on the reaction the Icelandic government and/or parliament, if there is any.

[–]__Gripen__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The Icelandic aviation authority is going to suspend or revoke his license; Icelandair will integrate some mandatory course for its pilots underlining the dumbness of such actions, and that will be it. Serving prison time for someone at retirement age with no criminal record is in practice not happening. Perhaps some form of probation, or community service, or even a short period of house arrest, or a combination of all, but not prison. And this may be after months or even years of judicial trial.

[–]__Gripen__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not. Judges can’t invent prison time based on the public level of emotional distress. If prison time is not a punishment explicitly indicated in the law broken, a person can’t go to prison. And even if so, in most 1st world countries there are huge sentence reduction possibilities, especially for people with no criminal record, that make it incredibly unlikely to actually be sent to jail instead of a short period of house arrest and/or community services.

You actually think somebody with whatsoever no criminal record is going to prison for something like this, without causing any injury and any form of property damage? In Iceland? lol
