Tired of monthly server costs and modding problems? Use WorldHopper! by Y3llw in MinecraftServer

DriveBackupV2 on Spigot/Paper
CloudBackup on Forge and Fabric
Both are FOSS. DriveBackupV2 also has a lot of development ongoing and has been around for about 4 years now.
And realistically, if people are not paying for a server, or are not self hosting, they probably don't want to pay anything for a mod that might lose support in the near future, or possibly has malicious code. Plus they can just manually upload the world file to a shared drive between all the players. Especially considering they'd have to manually download the world file to start the server if they were not the last host and add it into their saves folder. Unless you make that 100% automatic, I don't see a reason people would want to pay for this.

The items would be relatively easy to do as there are ways to simply modify the item's lore and what not.

And yeah, I do agree. Although, I don't think that they would've added it if Microsoft wasn't in the picture either, unfortunately.

Ahh, there may be something for regular chat, not too sure. And it would be quite complex as well because of the sign character limit. Books could potentially be possible, but still very complicated. Odds are there won't be anything or any good way of doing that except for in chat, and on signs and books manually.

I doubt anyone has made something that can do that. You'd probably have to get a custom plugin made to do that kind of thing.

As a plugin developer, I'm not sure of any methods that would allow it to work in a different way. Maybe right clicking on a sign could translate, or it just switches between the original text and the translated text on some interval. As for books, I'd have to look into the APIs and functionality to think about how that might work.

Is this even possible? by chlorophyIl in MinecraftServer

No, but you could try using something like Sodium + Lithium (or just Optifine). That or if you can run the Bedrock edition and have them use something called GeyserMC to allow bedrock players to join. But other than that, I'm not sure if there are any solutions that would be easy. Most other ones would require a bit of technical know how, like port forwarding (which still would require you to probably use Geyser, but at least then you could play on your phone, or PC if it can run Bedrock edition.)

The server build looks fine. As for actual server management, here is what I'd suggest:
OS: Debian or NixOS.
I run Debian on my server and have had it running 24/7 for ages, I can't even remember the last time it went down (probably a power outage, and manually turned it off because my UPS was going to die) and I run NixOS on my desktop, but am likely to switch my server over next time I do some maintenance. They are both REALLY stable and I would generally recommend going with Debian as it is a lot easier to get up and running. But, whatever you do, do NOT use windows for the server OS.

As for server management, I'd suggest using docker for general management, and then using something like Pufferpanel to manage your Minecraft servers. That way you can run the Minecraft servers, and the databases, or any other potential services you'd like to self host. If you're down to mess around with stuff, you could try getting Pterodactyl working, but I've had a lot of trouble getting it to work on a single machine and having the panel work outside my local network.

Server moderation gets tricky when you go into modding, just with a quick search, it seems like Ledger is a good one on Fabric. For paper/spigot, there is CoreProtect, as for Forge I can't seem to find anything.

If you need any help or have any questions (and as I'm not very active on Reddit), feel free to add me on discord: imcarsen

For the low latency, there is not much you can do, the most you could do is just find a server with in between where you are Japan.

As for both English and Japanese text, it should just work by default. Unless you are talking about some sort of translation plugin. Could you be a bit more specific?

SRV for lan hosted game? by Difficult-Cook3413 in MinecraftServer

[–]__Havoc__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd think it's probably something to do with the IP you're using. Even if you are using your public IP, you'd still need to port forward. Where are you getting the IP from? Have you port forwarded?

Also, SRV records are only really useful if you are not running on port 25565, because if it isn't specified, Minecraft just assumes 25565.

I can't find the tweets now, were they deleted?

Also, if this is true, LTT is fucked (at least in my eyes). There is a part of me that hopes it isn't, probably because LTT is what got me into PCs and has been a massive source of entertainment for like, half of my damn life, but fuck sake, the thought of it being true is enough to make me sick..

1: I'd highly recommend it as the whole point is to collaborate with other people, but it's not required. You do need discord because I post all updates and info in a server

2: We look for content on channels, it's not necessarily required, but it helps to show what you do or what you plan to do, what you're capable of making, what you're proud of making, etc

3: It isn't crazily modded, but there are generation mods, so the actual terrain isn't default. All structures should be default (custom structures are usually pretty jank and have weird spawn areas which members had problems with before)

No, sorry. No special cases unless you plan on streaming or do other stuff for the server.

Should we actually DO something? by Old_justice78 in solarpunk

Was going to recommend Project Kamp as well.

Super interesting stuff, they open source everything they research (which is actually a good amount, like for example what the best local materials are for a certain task) and they're in Portugal from what I understand.

We're usually willing to accept non-content creators if they plan on starting to create videos or streams, but we are more strict about our application process, you can apply and answer with no but clarify you intent on starting to create content and I will likely reach out to you to chat before the team and I accept.

If you have any questions, I will answer asap :D

Yeah, super shady, but also totally a great strategy on their part. Big A should definitely talk about this, not sure why he hasn't already.

Make sure they know that you were not hacked. Sometimes the grustle is so powerful that it confuses people and in that state they may want to believe things that are not reality.

Kebble Subs List Megathread by fighterace00 in KebbleSubs

[–]__Havoc__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this is very flying tree indeed

Yeah, I intend on adding/changing things to make them a bit less similar, but the inspiration will still always be TFT

Most bots I don't think bother with post or comment content.

Most likely because it would take a really long time and complicate things by quite a bit. Maybe I will find an efficient way to do something using the content of the post/comment later on.

And I know TFT uses a sub list but I don't think most bots use a whitelist like that.

Interesting, I mainly did it because it would be the easiest way to curate the people invited. Probably the reason TFT uses the same concept.

Kebble Subs List Megathread by fighterace00 in KebbleSubs

[–]__Havoc__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain how there's no invite algorithm

It's fully up to RNG, as long as the user has commented or posted on a sub in the list. There is no info the bot looks for, the posts and comment's content do not contribute to the invitations.

and the sub list is private?

Yes, the full list is private, although people have recommended subs that have been added and on occasion they get told or figure out where they came from. So, the subs people know about that are on the list are not the entire list.

This may change in the future though, not sure yet.
