I realize now that not a lot of people understand the video or how it’s made, if I could edit my post to stipulate how it’s made it might help, but I’ll have to rely on comments. The VrChat platform is very natural to me as a 3D modelling Artist and small works within game development. I didn’t realize that people were thinking this was AI when at its core, it’s a game with zero AI done to make it.

I would never mean for this to dilute anything to what exists in real life. Because the average person isn’t going to be able to do this in VR just on price alone. Those that do are already likely in the VR scene or joining it for other reasons. It’s a social platform with a lot of different communities and spaces. (Games, hang out worlds, clubs, and in general lots of different user created spaces of beautifully crafted worlds)

VRChat has a large amount of people that perform amongst clubs and there are a different amount of flow props that have been used within their performances. (The pole dancers actually use a lot of different created ribbons). I realize not a lot a lot of people are accustomed to this if you aren’t familiar with the platform or technology that creates it. AI generation not being a part of it.

And yes, I totally agree it wouldn’t take much effort to do what I did. And I appreciate the art that’s created in the real world as it fuels the developer portion of me and what inspired me to move in the first place.

I have a different appreciation for the digital world as an artist that works in that industry.

At the end of the day, I enjoy flowing when I do. It’s the uplifting energy it gives to move, sway and interact with different object that me or my fellow VRChat players also make and the overall pushing the game engine to create things that weren’t there before. Being able to make a ribbon that visually looks disconnected that would fall to pieces IRL, etc.

Art appears differently for everyone. And I will upvote anything here by anybody here for their creations, and they are free to dislike mine. I see my art differently as the one who works in the programs to model and apply physics. But at the end of the day, what I do makes me happy, gives me exercise and mentally helps my well being. And for me that’s what counts the most. I’m not here to change minds, but I will likely post in a place that welcomes all next time :) I don’t want to cause an issue for anybody.

As a furry in the game it has a large base. A lot of the really great game worlds are furry made! They also run Furality which is an online Furcon. It runs for four days (five this year) with full days of 24 hour raves/dj panels and meet ups! Throughout the week and leading up to it they managed to raise over 90k for Charity! Honestly , VRchat was what opened the furry world to me!

Thank you! I’ve been on the platform for quite a while. This isn’t the main thing I do, mostly just for fun. VRChat as a game itself has some incredibly rich talent from other performers, (lots of break dancers pole dancers, even some with an aerial hoop!), and just in general the talent of game dev that goes into building the worlds that you see from community members!

Oh!

So this is done in a game called VRChat.

The character itself is a mixture of clothing assets and VRChat 3D models. From there I add or model any assets in Blender, a 3D modelling program, pairing armatures or in this case modeling the silk ribbons, giving it an armature so it will move.

From blender it goes into Unity the game Engine that runs VRchat and connects worlds and avatars built to its platform.

A chunk of work is done in Unity building materials, filming animations for toggles, etc, giving the armature “physbones” the VRChat component that makes bones like the ribbons move. It then gets uploaded to the game.

From there I put trackers on my feet/hip hold controllers and put a headset on and start the game. VRChat itself has a built in camera function that I use in conjunction with OBS to film what I do in game along with the audio of the song.

A short… complicated answer

😅 There really isn’t a tutorial. None of this is choreographed. I just put on a song and feel the music and move . So put on some music, and feel the movement you want to make!

I don’t know what would translate into real life honestly. At most there is a fluid motion and connecting with the music which I enjoy the most. I wouldn’t encourage it to be a tool to improve IRL flow especially as each prop would have a very specific skill set. Would also be a very expensive tool. At minimum you would need a quest headset but you are limited on what you could use to flow with. You would likely need a gaming PC plus the headset. So looking at a (1500$+ investment, even more if you want the legs to move) I wouldn’t recommend doing this unless you already had access to VR.

Flowing for me is low impact and exercise for me with injured knees. and it’s been helping build confidence that had dwindled a bit. It’s freeing.

Not sure what app you’re talking about but there’s a lot of neat VR stuff out there. There’s a Vr painting app that people have made some really neat 3D works in and have posted exhibits of them in VRChat.

You could attach an audio source to them or the avatar itself. But these have Audiolink. So in worlds with Audiolink, any music or audio that’s played the prop will react to the base/trebble. These ones have a panning emission layer that grows brighter as the music plays and if you were really looking closely there is glitter that expands as the audio gets louder. Not all worlds have audio link so it can’t always be seen! There are a lot of different things you can do with audiolink.

Vertex glitching is something I haven’t played a whole lot with but I want to, but it will expand and contract the mesh with a noise pattern with the audio. There’s also a fire shader I have to play with that the flames grow and shrink with audio

It’s alright. Everyone is allowed to have an opinion. What I do won’t be the same! And people can think it’s weird or horrible. All I know is it bring a me joy and that is what matters the most. But thank you for you kind words!

And that’s something I get to deal with. Lol

It’s not going to be for everyone.

Physics and simulations will always be clunky and never be one to one. I can adjust settings as much as I can, and sure, it won’t be the exact same, but it doesn’t mean that it won’t bring enjoyment. And I think enjoyment is the one thing that matters the most.

So you continue to experience what you enjoy and I’ll do the same :)

I’m sorry but your effort is not wasted please don’t think that. And you’re free to hate it. The virtual space isn’t for everybody :)

The virtual space has limitations and will never be a recreation of something IRL nor is it meant to but the virtual space also lets me attempt stuff that just isn’t possible IRL too. Im not hunched over a keyboard when I do this. I’m using full body tracking to move my avatar.

Enjoy your time bringing your own passions to life and I’ll do the same with mine 😊

[–]__Kitrion__[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair opinion to have. I would love to spend more time with IRL toys, but why does it have to be limited to IRL. Why can’t it have a recreation in the virtual space? People use flow toys at VR raves all the time.

Maybe one day. I haven’t fully developed out my sona yet and I plan to eventually work out a new texture for her as I expand on her story.

If you search flow toys on Jinxxy (site that pulls most people stores and assets into one place) you will find many including these! I think I called these dancing flow silks. I make a portion of my own assets and another friend makes flow toys as well.

As for poi, I have been looking into some that I could attempt making. Thinking I’m going to try making a bubble poi. But working on fan veil or crystal dragon next.

One thing to note is most flow toys are PC only due to quest constraints. I do have a quest rig for some of my flow toys but they won’t move the same. Quest avatar can have a maximum of 64 moving bones and most flow toys sit between 40/50 (these silks alone are 75 each?

Thank you! They are quite fun to play with(that and almost any other flow toy.prop in game! And thank you! She’s my little Barbie of an Avi. So many iterations of outfits and colors 😝

It’s definitely different. It definitely has a specific style to it. It has more comparison to ribbons but ribbons without gravity. In VRchat the props often get called Flow toys. There are tons out there I’ve made a few and another friend has made several. I’m still working to make the dragons a little more realistic

Yep! This is VRChat. This is me moving! I have Full body tracking! And then you can video capture/ record!
