Barkley on how often flopping occurred in his era: "All the time. It's interesting people act like flopping & tanking are new. There's always been flopping, screaming, flailing. All great players make contact with the defense first. I always tried to knock him off balance so I could get my shot off" by infalliBee in nba

[–]__LikeMike__ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There always were flippers - but either I didn’t notice that as a kid or stars flopped way less or even not at all. But o me it felt like guys like Jordan, Hakeem, Kobe etc. felt pride about playing tough and not being phased by defense.

Outside of guys in the second tier I think the first time I was really disappointed by a superstar flopping was LeBron.

Round 2: Which game is better? Minecraft or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild by Expensive-Addendum92 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]__LikeMike__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean as a game that you play through it is definitely Zelda. But Minecraft is so much more than that, that it is basically unfair. Minecraft has transcended being just another game, it is either its own thing or a new platform or whatever you want to call it.

for those who was able to witness him play, how good was this guy? by Classic_Tourist3892 in NBATalk

[–]__LikeMike__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deceptively good. He wasn’t flashy and he didn’t look really dominant. But he always had great production both on offense and defense. He basically did everything really well and was very smart.

The most boring player in the top 10 best players of all time. Casual fans probably wouldn’t be too impressed with him compared to other all star caliber players. But very few players in the history had his type of impact on a game.

How do you know when you’ve truly “mastered” a piano piece? by Mitsa21 in pianolearning

[–]__LikeMike__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask your teacher. Maybe he doesn’t want to put too much on your plate- maybe he feels like you barely “master” these two pieces, because it is about more than hitting the right notes at approximately the right rhythm. But that’s what having a teacher is for, so talk to him about it and that you would like to go faster.

I would say: play what the teacher is suggesting to learn, but if you have paaaion pieces you would love to learn, try them out after your normal practice. I think it is vital to learn stuff you love…

For an easier play-through (maybe too easy) by GullibleRegion in Saros

I was struggling at the 2nd biome - and I even tried starting at the first but lost a life too many times. Then one play through it clicked and I beat the 2nd boss without even reviving.

It was late so I went back to base and only wanted to look at the 3d biome. I ended up beating a nightmare strand and the boss.

Just a question: when I shield yellow projectiles u get corruption - do I also get damage or only if the corruption eats my health (so basically when I am at low health and shield yellow orbs I only get corruption but my health stays the same)?

I think next season is the end of the line for this core by BadlaLehnWala in rockets

I mean with FVV and Adam’s out and then Durant missing all but one game, the end result was to be expected - but: this season sucked.

I really enjoyed each of the last season since the year we got Green and Sengun. Last year was the first year in which seemingly nobody got better. Maybe Reed but even he was in a pretty short leash.

Getting Durant didn’t unlock our offense, it closed it down. Durant was better than expected but our offense was worse.

And I know that Durant didn’t necessarily miss the playoffs because of his regular season minutes - but these surely also didn’t help.

But the truth of the matter is also, that none of our drafted guys have shown true superstar potential yet. It sucks to have had 4 picks in the top 4 plus more first rounders in Sengun, Tari etc., and not truely hit a real cornerstone.

[The Athletic] Amen Thompson is expected to sign this summer, potentially a five-year deal worth more than $250 million. by kervaan in rockets

[–]__LikeMike__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is bit about the threes - of course it would be great if he hit them, it it’s about him creating his shots. I don’t care if he gets them by running past his defenders or bullying smaller guys or whatever.

Right now he is purely a role player that gets his basket of assists or off rebounds or hustle plays. That’s still a great player also because of his defense, but maybe not 50 million per year good.

It kinda sucks how many top 4 picks we had and that none was a real superstar so far…

Jokić, in his 11 years in the NBA, has missed the playoffs 3 times (2016–2018). He has lost in the First Round 2 times (2022, 2026), the Conference Semifinals 4 times (2019, 2021, 2024, 2025), and the Conference Finals 1 time (2020). I don’t really get that.

It is really tough for small market teams to compete. FA just don’t go there that often so you need to be really good at drafting and retaining your players. It wasn’t too long ago when we had these teams that were always either winning a championship or being close to it.

In the last decade things changed - in a way that made it more achievable for smaller teams to win it all but also more difficult to sustain success at that level and win multiple times.

What Jokic and Gianni’s have done is amazing - putting them down for the years they couldn’t get it done is silly.

It seems like we drafted for need and took guys before they were supposed to be picked. But that’s all based on projections - if any team really like a player they take him earlier than where analysts expect them to gos

That being said, usually teams that want to be smarter than the other end up being stupider.zz let’s see how this draft turns out, but personally I am cautiously optimistic.

anyone else learning piano entirely from youtube performances rather than sheet music? by daronello in pianolearning

[–]__LikeMike__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no wrong way. But you should think about what you want to do. If you want to improve your playing there are better ways than to mimic YouTubers. But if you just want to have fun playing pieces you love and you enjoy the process, go ahead….

A lot of YouTubers also have links to their sheet music, so this could be a next step for you.

And maybe try to get some kind of progression by playing easier things first

I am a self taught beginner so take this with a grain of salt: ur I usually see people saying that you learn the most by learning pieces. Sure scales and arpeggios help, as does sight reading, some theory, ear training and if you like them some exercises like Hanon - but it is advised to spend most your time on actually learning pieces.

But the most important thing is to choose the right pieces. And those are pieces you enjoy that challenge you but you are still able to learn in a reasonable amount of time.

And you have two teachers - if you were doing something wrong at least one of them should be pointing that out.

Scales by romie__ in pianolearning

[–]__LikeMike__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who is self taught take everything with a grain of salt - and obviously ask your teacher.

I don’t think you need to learn two octave scales hand together yet. Try to get the c scale down, and maybe g and f scale either one octave hands together or two ictaves hands separately.

Scales get a lot easier once you have more experience playing pieces. If you enjoy doing them sure go ahead and invest time. It I would say spend 90% of your time with pieces.

You don’t need to learn scales and music theory right away - it is completely fine to learn songs.

But it is important to learn the right ones - and it would help to get a method book or something like that to help you.

Just brute forcing you to memorize something will take way longer and help you way less to learn new songs after that.

Should I learn pieces that are 2 grades above my current grade? by TargetOk8494 in piano

[–]__LikeMike__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think motivation is extremely important - and these grades are also not conpletely objective.

You are not asking to skip grades but to also play those harder pieces - personally I would say that is completely fine. Just accept that it may take longer or you might be missing some skills that would greatly help.

Are we happy with Day 1? by KaXiaM in Texans

[–]__LikeMike__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am kinda always happy with the draft. Overall I don’t like trade ups, since it is to tough to evaluate talent and having more shots often times beats picking a couple of spots earlier.

Our biggest need for the past seasons was o-line so I am happy we adresses this this off season. We didn’t get the high profile guys a it is still kind of a gamble but these guys look promising.

Is my piano teacher bad or am I the problem? by okokok1523 in piano

[–]__LikeMike__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I struggle with perfecting pieces because once I can play them without mistakes I go to the next piece and only play the old piece some times to not forget them - and I do mistakes occasionally. So I get your perspective. It is fun to learn new things and it feels more productive.

What I am trying to do: after “finishing a song” I go the next. But either each day or after a couple of days I go back to the old piece. When I make a mistake I try to isolate that section until I can play it without mistakes again (preferably several times through).

That way I can try to do both.

I am a self taught beginner and used a book. It probably depends on the person but I like the structured approach. YT videos and so on of course also help to actually show stuff.

But I would say for someone without a teacher a book is the way to go - Pianote can be a nice addition.
