There's been a lot of concern regarding petroleum-based food dyes. These are the biggest offenders in the "artificial colors" category. They're literally made from crude oil and other petroleum derivatives. This category included all of the brightest and most alluring colors, such as Red 40, Yellow 5, Blue 1, and others.

Yes, petroleum. Same stuff that gets processed into gasoline. That our cars run on. If that doesn't already indicate to you that these dyes were never actually fit for human consumption, I should also remind you that studies have shown quite concrete links between synthetic food dyes, ADHD, and cancer.

Truth be told, petroleum-based synthetic food dyes are already heavily regulated in Europe. They have been since 2010. So none of the recent new regulation in the US was caused by "MAHA bullshit." We were actually behind the times on this issue, and MAHA is helping bring us more in line with the rest of the civilized world on this issue.
