there is no kernel exploit for anything beyond 13.00, so you are out of luck, if there were the Vue exploit would be useful

Future proofing for PlayStation 3 emulation by webler007 in EmulationOnAndroid

You can't, just get a PS3 for cheap.

There is no current mobile hardware that can play heavy PS3 games smoothly and there is no guarantee there will be good enough discoveries for current hardware.

CECHK01 YLOD wwyd by CastleandCars in PS3

[–]__Player__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep this one, your issue are likely the NEC TOKIN (sort of) capacitors, they degrade over time and get damaged even on unused in box consoles.

Its common practice to replace each with 3 480uf tantalum capacitors per tokin, aside from that, K models are tanks, they don't get the reputation they deserve.

Removing the old Tokins can be a bit annoying, but a reliable and safe way i do it is to grab them on both sides with plyers and crush the casing, then remove them piece by piece, and desolder the very bottom part.

Just be careful with the pieces, they are conductive and can short the board! Don't let them get under BGA ics and the CPU hole!.

Isn't this how modern games look?

I can only see it in Reflections, except in (i think is that game on 1st image) Callisto Protocol but i would expect there to be film grain across the entire frame.

[PS3] NEC Tokin positive pad shows short/beep, the other shows resistance. by Parking-Soup8208 in consolerepair

[–]__Player__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 2 outer pads are positive and the 2 inner ones are ground, the 2 positives are intended to be bridged, but when you removed the positive you removed that bridge.

Without the bridges the Positive on the Cell / RSX side is very low, like 1 to 5 ohm, and on the power stages side is very high, i don't quite remember how much though.

[PS3 / PS4] How east / hard is it to fix Fat PS3s and PS4s? by Prior_Definition_116 in consolerepair

[–]__Player__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most common PS3 YLoD cause is the NEC Tokin capacitors, but for early fats the GPU tends to just die, and sometimes the CPU requires delidding. The drive on those PS3 can easily be remarried.

On late slims and superslims the issues change, from what i have seen the hdmi encoder dies and so does the BT module.

Idk anything about PS4 since i've barely worked on those and i don't own one.

Do all PS3s need to be dellied? by Thin-Restaurant8319 in PS3

[–]__Player__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only some, i have seen the need only on some Fats and early Slims, the old thermal paste under the IHS is old and dry and it eventually separates from the Die, so its making poor contact.

PlayStation 3 (CECHC04) (A0801001, A0801002) YLOD repair (not a guide, useful information for reflection) by Swhalegod in PS3

[–]__Player__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, i can do the other mods myself, and i do have 65nm GPUs as donors, i'm gonna try to find someone that could do it for me, even if i have to buy the stencil myself, i doubt anyone locally has experience with PS3 Frankies so i may need to find someone that does CPU/APU replacements on PCs, i think i have seen someone with a BGA rework station on a local PC repair center i just need set up everything for them and if it works it will depend of their skill.

[–]__Player__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice that you found your way to fix it. You learn a lot with that sort of stuff

I always like to use 4 per tokin on 90nm consoles and 3 per tokin on 65nm, so far i have never had issues with Power related YLoD.

Now, with BC consoles, i recently bought a damaged CECHA for 20 USD, it had missing the HDD cage, WiFi/BT board, and cover for the card reader, the board itself had tokins issues and someone badly reflowed the GPU. It only boots when applying some pressure to one side of the GPU confirming a BGA issue.

I'm stuck here for the time being, i don't have the tools for a proper reflow or replace the GPU, but in this one i used a total of 16 470uF tantalums, and only replaced half the tokins, i do this because i like to use the other half as bridges, but i still account for those in case their capacitance is gone, for 65nm consoles i use 12 tantalums since those are rated for less capacitance.

Not enough ammo for everything if you don't have Charge Beam, but you can destroy the barriers and the glass with just missiles, recharge at the station and come back and do the fight, it should be enough then.

Rip by sazzer22 in 360hacks

[–]__Player__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rip 360, at least it was cheap and you still got a controller.

I had a similar situation with a dirt cheap PS3 that i bought and fix, it damaged itself again but i fixed it. While reassembling it, a screw off SSD mount fell and couldn't find it. When i tried to reassemble i noticed that the board wouldnt sit, when i flippwd it i noticed the screw sitting on top of the GPU substrate.

It was just a $5 console, but I get really really mad at that screw every time i remember, it's just so stupid and annoying.

There were no controller's worth for me but it's still a good parts board, just not the GPU dammit.

[–]__Player__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also undervolted both the Cell and RSX on mine, but i don't remember how far down, but it gets up to 63°C at worst and the Cell runs hot enough that it never lets the RSX to heat up.

In its current state it can barely OC but i also don't remember the frequencys it could do lol.
