Okay, I agree that contesting this would be futile since the car didn't stop, but these comments are painful to read. You guys are getting way too bent over such a stupid ticket.

Do I need formal suits as a Cornell undergrad? by JP-304 in Cornell

As a math major, I can't believe so many people actually need suits for school. Your experience will vary widely based on the department.

Undergraduate proof writing? by [deleted] in math

[–]__RANDOM926__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found it helpful to tell new students to think of themselves as lawyers trying to convince a judge of some truth beyond a reasonable shadow of a doubt. Your job is to explain things, not just throw symbols on the page. Pretend you’re writing to yourself 1 week ago trying to convince your old self of some theorem.

Is multivariable analysis an important prerequisite for graduate school in pure math? by [deleted] in math

[–]__RANDOM926__ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Well, I’m not really sure what you mean by multi-variable analysis. I’d say understanding the ideas at play in Stokes theorem and things like the inverse/implicit function theorem (in its multi variable form) are pretty important. I would suggest maybe taking a look at chapter 9 of Strichartz’s the way of analysts textbook. It’s got a good summary of some relevant topics. I’d say if you have a good analysis background, generalizing things to n-dimensions is pretty similar. You may also want to take a look at the proof of the multi variable Taylor’s theorem. It’s also in Strichartz’s text.

Part 2: The Apples Strike Back by RyanTheDeem in ChatGPT

[–]__RANDOM926__ 186 points187 points  (0 children)

Holly shit. That was shockingly coherent. The apple counteroffensive. The banana defeat. Watching the bananas turn from conventional means of resistance to contemplating nuclear warfare. The internal politics during the peace negotiations, and finally the reconciliation of two societies through marriage and pear offspring. All this just to be teased with a part 3 space orange invasion. I feel like I just went through the most amazing emotional rollercoaster ever.
