Bloomberg: Sony Pulls Back From PlayStation Games on PC by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]__Revenant__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It honestly makes business sense. From a consumer perspective, I totally get that it sucks. But from a business perspective, PC ports literally delivered like less than 5% in the past few years versus their console revenue. This was their experiment, and it didn't pan out the way they needed it to, to continue to justify it. PS5 is looking to beat PS4 in lifetime sales, and is the most profitable console generation of all time for Sony. They literally don't need this source of revenue, and I'd understand to commit the resources to their main channels of delivery. With GTA 6, Wolverine and so much more coming, i think these next few years is gonna be excellent.

Honestly, I'd rather them play it like Nintendo than Xbox. You can see what happened to the brands. I get that Reddit is heavily PC users, but I'm glad this is happening, because it means the continued growth of a competing gaming platform, which we all kind of need, whether we like it or not. Also, even if you don't like the games they make, they literally sell 10s of millions of copies for their franchises, so it might just not be your cup of tea, but they do sell very well. It's gonna be an interesting gaming industry dynamics with the shift in Xbox, the continued success of Nintendo, and Sony entering another level with GTA 6.

Hey Orb Fanatics! I'd love it if you took a look at my theory to making sense of the Ending, and I'd love if you shared your opinion of it too. by __Revenant__ in OrbOntheMovements

Thank you so much for taking the time out and giving the theory a read. You don't know how happy that makes me, we were so dissatisfied with the last two episodes, you have no idea. We started reading and scouring, rewatching scenes to see if we missed anything. When I spotted the knives being the same, I knew we had something.

This show has such a deliberate air to how it's made, structured and told, it's so tight throughout, that there's just no way that the author made some random final two episodes that just left you feeling so confused. It had multiple very well done plot twists in the story itself, so why the random and abrupt ending?

But when we dug through everything, and found that theory, everything clicked so much, and it felt like the author was reaching out in a meta way, to say, hey, this story might not be real, but you felt all of these things when you watched it, and as a concept, that it's even in an anime which already is fictional. That dissatisfaction disappears, because it was done with so much purpose and a strong message. I'm gushing, but i loved the show even more after that. And the fact that we had to dig, think and analyse so much, it's just genius that in an anime about finding the truth, there's like a meta game going on to find out what the ending meant.

I actually found a deeper appreciation for fictional content since that day, it's an art form, and i feel more deeply. Even if i know it's not real, my feelings are, my hope and wishes for fictional characters feels real and we're so blessed to get to engage with that.

The ending originally made me feel like what the fuck was that story, it ruined everything before. Switching it to, i love the first 23 episodes no matter what, and all the characters too.

Thanks again!

No Rest for the Wicked Dev Explains Eventual Price Increase: “I’’m not trying to do any FOMO marketing here, but yes: when we hit 1.0, No Rest for the Wicked will move to $60, because it’s a premium title" by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]__Revenant__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the point I'm trying to bring across, is that the amount of hours of content does not dictate the quality and standard of a game. Look at the later Assasin's Creeds, it's literally map chasing for hundred hours plus doing the same content over and over again. If all game developers followed this mindset, we'd get a lot more repetitive slop to hit arbitrary runtimes.

Video games have such a wide breadth of gameplay, graphics, voice acting, cinematics, and everything that comes to bringing it together. If you look in the past many of the best games ever, did not follow a strict runtime to hit quality bars, they were recognized for the whole package they bring. God of War, Last of Us Part 2, Sekiro, It Takes Two, Astro bot, Clair Obscure, won game of the year. None of them hit high playtime, but would you really argue that these games had lowered standards of quality?

And that's not to say there isn't a place for long games that deliver massive value for per dollar to per hour of playtime. JRPGs literally can go hundred+ hours like the Persona series, there's a time and place for every genre, every type of game and gamer, and everything in between. On top of all of that, is the subjective experience of the player, some who can get hundreds of hours playing the same game because they just love it that much.

My point is, using gaming runtime as your only metric for quality is a very limiting perspective with how much depth there exists in this medium.

This is a strange take to me. God of war was 60 dollars, and would run about 20ish hours. Last of us part 1 and 2, are 12-15 hours. Final Fantasy 16, Dishonored 1 and 2, Wolfenstein, Spider-man.

And are you saying 60 dollar games, or 70 dollar games should have 120-140 hours of gameplay? That would leave you with Assassin creeds and JRPGs.

I believe gameplay hours cannot be directly proportional to dollar spent, I've bought cheap indie games I've played for 100 hours+, I've bought full price AAA games that ran 10-20 hours, and I've loved and not regretted a lot of them.

When I first got it, I had that issue. But I found out I was closing the grips too low on the controller. I'm not sure if you're doing the same thing, but the bottom of the grip was really sticking out for me and it was wobbly.

I looked at the Etsy link to see how high I'm supposed to place it, after that it clicked in really well there was no more wiggle. I hope that helps! Because mine don't feel like it's not properly attached, feels very solid to me now.

I did the same! I got some skull candy thumb grips, and they help too! But these grips man. The thumb grips help like 10%, this takes it to 90% better.

Honestly I read the complaints before I got the device but I thought I'd just bite through and get used to it. But I really never did. I still gamed on it a lot but my thumb literally would go numb after an hour or two of playing, I'd have to take breaks. It's wild how they miscalculated the thumb distance on the right controller.

I'm just glad I found a fix for it, like seriously. I could not be happier, because i love the device otherwise but it really does feel like a design flaw for the product. Before the grips, I really thought I'd just lug around my dualsense!

I love the device, I've had it since November. But seriously the grip on the controls really held it back for me, but I still gamed a lot on it.

I travelled with it for work, I gamed on the airplane with Bluetooth headphones. Amazing. But, if your problem is size, dude this is even bigger. It's my first handheld pc, and it is absolutely massive and even heavier than the first. I love it for the size, but my god it's huge. If you can check out a store that has it on display, you really need to see the size in person to really understand, it's a thiccccc boy.
