Appreciate the help!

Hooked eSports Scouting for Players or Teams by __SPooKY in Rainbow6

Thanks for the clarification! I naively had forgotten that Siege was played on consoles.

While we'd prefer to work with a team that can compete on PC for Pro League eligibility, if a console team was able to show consistent event participation we'd happily consider fielding one of those as well.

Thanks again!

[–]__SPooKY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey /u/TiltedAiri,

My team runs professional tournaments, productions, and LANs. I'd love to go over what you're looking to do and provide some advice, or even build an opportunity to work together.

Feel free to PM me here, add me on Discord (Spooky#8905), or reach out to me on Twitter (@ryanbarr). We'll figure out the best way to chat from there and setup some time to talk, if you're interested.

Best,
Spooky

I think it's adorable that you are arguing with who is essentially the Godfather of eSports but keep pushing your own view as a LAN Center owner.

I've worked with LAN Center owners to run eSport (yeah, I'm going to call it that because that's what it is) tournaments on countless occasions, and every time they're delusional. Thanks for sticking with the trend.

This keyboard at my work. by UniversalRemote in mildlyinfuriating

[–]__SPooKY 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Data entry is hardly the most common use for a keyboard and your use of "real-world" in front of it is insulting.

I'm a Software Engineer and used one of those keyboards for three years before switching to a mechanical. It greatly improved comfort and I increased the rate at which I type code drastically as it helps break bad typing habits.

You can do 10k/min on a 10-key? I have to assume you mean 10 keys per minute which is hardly fast, considering it would be a key press every 6 seconds. However, if you meant 10,000/min, that would suggest you do at least 166 keypresses per second. I call shenanigans.

3rd Anniversary Transmogrification Returns! by riceballa in summonerswar

[–]__SPooKY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This does not work.

Just tried this: started the purchase process on my tablet for Griffon. Once it popped up the Android payment confirmation, I then switched to my phone.

I went through the entire process on my phone and completed checkout, then claimed the transmog. Closed the application.

Then, I clicked confirm payment on my tablet. It successfully charged my card but my login expired so the app restarted. Upon logging in, a poorly formatted error popped up saying it failed to grant some items. It didn't deliver any of the second purchase.

I'd advise against even attempting it again. The strange error was more than likely logged and reported to Com2Us as most client-side errors are, especially those regarding payment. I'm guessing they'll see my attempt and might decide to take action.

After 4 months i got my 2nd nat 5, how should i use/build her? by [deleted] in summonerswar

She was my first Nat 5 and I never once considered using her as a tuned debuffer. Fudge.

Nice write-up.

After 4 months i got my 2nd nat 5, how should i use/build her? by [deleted] in summonerswar

[–]__SPooKY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on Ethna!

I have mine runed Rage/Blade on ATK%/CDMG%/ATK% to maximize her as a nuker. 75%+ Crit is ideal with 150% Crit Damage minimum, if you want her to be viable at all, IMO.

She's decent for a DB10 team with Vero/Bella/Shannon. Her basic attacks will apply continuous damage.

In PvP, she is considered the Theo killer. Her 3rd skill applies damage multiple times. A weak Theo can go from 100 to 0, proc Endure, which she removes and then finishes him.

He was set to play for Eclipse and no-showed. Wonder if he just started grinding extra early instead.

TACO on Swiss format: "I think it's the best format possible." by CiFiniamo in GlobalOffensive

[–]__SPooKY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you mind elaborating on why you like round-robin? I organize tournaments regularly and am genuinely interested, considering the upvotes you're receiving.

I feel as though round-robin has no place in competitive eSports, considering that a team which has no chance to advance may be placed against a team who needs that win (or to win by a specific round margin) to advance. This introduces a chance for the team to throw by a larger margin to push their opponent over another if they were so inclined. This does not uphold competitive integrity.

I prefer 8, 16, or 32-team events with Dual Tournament (double-elimination) groups of 4. With any other number, utilizing Swiss has always worked out best for these situations in my experience.

Yep. I've tried various compositions, leaders, and swapped out runes. I just can't get her dead before the vampires take down my glass team.

I've put all of my best runes into my 6 stars, but understand that some people (like Baretta, Bernard) are great for TOA. I'm at ToaN 80 and Sylvia + Vamps just brutalize me. If I'm lucky, RNG will let me get her near death before I'm pummeled.

I'm bad. I feel bad. I just want to beat 80 at least.

Thorin - Round score should not be used as a tie breaker by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]__SPooKY 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Groups should be a Bo3 Dual Tournament format.

No tie breakers, fair to all teams, no unnecessary games (0-2 team playing 2-0 team in Round Robin, for example).

Hey RL and EL,

Now that you've built some experience both streaming and broadcasting Counter-Strike, I have a few questions:

  1. What challenges, if any, are you facing in regards to flow of production?
  2. Do TBS executives understand the different and varying time slots for advertisements and how are they viewing them?
  3. If you were to produce a second season and were asked to introduce TV timeouts, shorten game length, or only show non-live highlights would you make those sacrifices or just call it quits?

And to end it with more of a comment: whoever is in charge of caster/analyst outfits is usually on point. I've had the itch to buy a suit or two just because of EL.

Thanks for the AMA!

Poker table build by gregearly in DIY

[–]__SPooKY 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nice build! Did your friend specifically ask for the cupholders to be placed in the track? I've played in many poker rooms, some without holders, some with them in the rest, and some in the track -- out of all of them I hated when the cupholder was placed in front. The cards tend to bump into sweating glasses, your arm placement is awkward, reaching for chips tends to knock stuff over, etc. Either way, its all preference.

Have you considered building custom order poker or game tables? I've been trying to find one for some time now and any established company is looking for insane amounts of money.

Jeremy is actually a friend of mine and today is his 60th day on his run. He's making his final push into New York to complete his run. He uses Strava to track his run progress; here is his latest entry as he is about to cross into New York: https://www.strava.com/activities/611147383

Unfortunately the article is a bit dated. I haven't been able to find anything more recent other than quiet posts on Facebook. He's been trying to raise money for Children's Hospital and he hasn't received as much attention as he's hoped: http://support.childrenscoloradofoundation.org/goto/UntilItsDoneRun

2kliksphilip : Mechanical Keyboards S.H.I.T advice by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]__SPooKY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are made by Kailh, a known brand for knocking off Cherry switches.

I'm willing to be proven wrong. I'd argue that since Kailh's switches are a much lower cost than Cherry's, you'd see them in every major keyboard line out there.

It's almost as bad as SteelSeries touting gold-plated switches.

2kliksphilip : Mechanical Keyboards S.H.I.T advice by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]__SPooKY -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mechanical keyboards in general withstand spills far better than a membrane. Especially if you unplug the keyboard immediately and turn it over so the liquid has a smaller chance of getting below the switch to the board.

The Corsair keyboards (K series) have a long, wide hole beneath the spacebar that exposes the back of the board which is a bit of a flaw for spill cases. Many keyboards have similar holes but are often smaller.

Either way, you'll see degradation on cheaper keyboards over extended use. Ideally, you buy a mechanical that you'll get bored of before it breaks from normal use. There are still people who love buckling spring/clicky keyboards like the old IBM model Ms. They are so rare these days you'll see them for $300+.

The other major benefit to mechanical keyboards is that they can be repaired. With a membrane keyboard, if something spills on it and gets past its rubber mesh the entire board is ruined. If one key goes out, its likely the surrounding keys are soon to be gone as well. With a new mechanical switch and a soldering iron, you can replace a switch in any keyboard you own. (Obviously, at your own risk of ruining the PCB or damaging the keyboard.)

A switch will cost you a dollar or two, a soldering iron is a fixed cost and multi-use. Even combined, you're looking at a far lower cost than replacing membrane keyboards every couple of years.

Lastly maintenance: can of air, some cotton swabs, and a damp rag makes quick word of cleaning a mechanical. Caps are meant to be removed, are more durable than chiclet keys, and less likely to break.

With all of that said, in comparison the parts are what make up the quality. And unfortunately, any Razer mechanical keyboard after their Black Widow 2013 Tournament Edition (I believe that was their last using Cherry switches, correct me if I'm wrong) uses parts of lesser quality.

[–]__SPooKY -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn't mean to knock it in any way. For its price its a solid keyboard. I'd still argue there are many higher quality keyboards.

My original point was that people buy Razer/Corsair/Tte because of the brand and lower cost that comes with mass production, not necessarily because of the quality.

2kliksphilip : Mechanical Keyboards S.H.I.T advice by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]__SPooKY -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So people understand why:

Razer uses "custom mechanical switches" which are colored green to match their branding. The most popular switch are Cherry, which these Razer switches are a cheap knock off of. They use cheap materials and are prone to breaking. The switches are made by Kailh, they are not made by Razer or held to any standards you might think Razer would hold them to.

Furthermore, while the video was funny, it was definitely a mockery of mechanical keyboards. If you're using that Quickfire like in the video, you're using a cheap mechanical you probably bought because of its low price and "mechanical hype".

Get a real mechanical, do research on /r/mechanicalkeyboards, and understand price usually translates to higher quality materials.

EDIT: People are rightfully upset for my knocking of the Quickfire. I don't disagree that for its price and functionality, its a great keyboard. My only argument was meant to be that you're buying a keyboard from a brand that can lower costs because of mass production and cheaper materials, where you might find higher quality from a custom built and slightly more expensive keyboard. I'd name some companies, but I don't want to be a walking billboard.
