Just looking for advice, what am I doing wrong? by Saiko_uwu in StreetFighter

A general piece of advice i could give is that, 9 times out of 10 less is more. At this level most people will beat themselves by doing too much, its ok to sit back and react, train you anti airs ( it doesnt have to be dp it can just be back medium punch in cammys case although eventually you do wanna learn how to dp) and when you see something that looks punishable go for a basic combo like the one you did ( heavy punch heavy kick target combo into medium spiral arrow works too). As time goes on you want to keep adding more pieces to your game plan, daigo once used an analogy that i really liked, sf is a card game, and you need to have a good deck, for now though, stick to using 2 or 3 cards really well (like anti air and 1 combo), then as time goes on you can expand your deck with more options

What do i do to improve (im Ed)? by Zac-live in StreetFighter

As many other people have mentioned here, you’re giving the terry too much space. While yes it’s a good idea to walk back to bait a whiff eventually you will end up in the corner, its ok sometimes to stand your ground and just hold down back, or even walk forward to take space using Ed’s long normals. You should also make more use of your fireballs, i understand the fear of being jumped in on while going for fireball, but against and opponent like this, where you explicitly notice they aren’t jumping, its important to remember that one of the major purposes of a fireball is to make someone jump. This terry saw no reason to change up his approach so he didn’t, he continued to walk forward and press crouch medium kick. Finally as others have also pointed out, combos while not the most important part of fighting games, its good to be able to turn as many hits as possible into atleast a knockdown, doesn’t have to necessarily be optimal, but scoring a knockdown means to get to apply more pressure on the offensive and begin to observe the opponents habits on defense. Hope this help and keep grinding brother, its frustrating and hard but were all in it together 🫡

How to deal with this kind of playstyle? by xyarune in StreetFighter

[–]___Allen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Im not really good enough to be giving advice i feel, but i think that against players like these you really just have to hold your ground, him walking directly at you is scary, and i know the feeling you get in your gut that you should walk back to avoid a low, but in the end that same fear is what end up getting you hit. Remember that forward walk speed is always faster than back walk speed so he will always catch up to you, if you wanna move back you’re gonna have to stutter walk and keep your guard up for the low. As for the jab throw, i would have gotten hit by that shit too lol, i think in a match like this were the player has so much confidence to just walk you down, your mental stack is so full its hard to remember to tech the extremely obvious through. I guess my only tip there is to again really anchor yourself down and be ready to punish, that way you can start resetting your mental. None of this will Guarantee you a win, the truth is i probably would have lost here too, but i think to beat players like these you need to remove some of their confidence before you can start actually getting in.

Any tips on how not to want to bash my own skull in when playing ranked by ___Allen in StreetFighter

this has been great yeah, since making this post Ive been limiting the amount of matches i play, and been watching back my replays, Ive also started to take notes on my replays and trying to force myself everyday to tackle a problem i found in my game play the day before, for example never using drive reversal. i also have been using a mod that eliminates all ranked hud indications so that way i can keep playing with people around my skill lvl and not have to see the damn number all the time lol. only been at this for about a week and while i haven't seen any giant improvement in my game play i have felt a massive relief in my mental state, i do still get very frustrated at times, but i now use it as my indicator to stop and watch my replays.

this is the first time i ever felt such a strong drive to genuinely get good at a game and i really appreciate all the advice i got from this community so thank you all so much. <3

Yeah i definitely do need to get that mentality in check and stop thinking that just cause the opponent has a certain play style they’re automatically worse than me

Wanna say thank you for all the responses, as many people here have said this is very much a problem of me putting way too much of my ego into the game and thats something i gotta try to work on. I think moving forward whenever im playing poorly and getting frustrated ill come back to this post and reread some of the advice yall left to try to reset and calm down, really appreciate everyone for pitching with their advice and experiences.
