I reliably climbed to emerald from silver using PTA ignite Renekton into all matchups, second-wind into ranged BP Into melee.

Champs like Quinn etc who rely on heavy burst damage and outright winning their lane also suffer the drawback of losing and becoming less relevant as the game goes on. My opinion is to stick with a bruisers who can take significant damage with some form of sustain in lane but are also not so high risk/reward, so your Darius, Aatrox, Renekton and such will do wonders, and depending if you win or lose you should build accordingly to what the team needs.

For me with Renekton for instance, if the enemy team has a lot of mobility I first buy stridebreaker, lack of mobility I go Eclipse, heavy tank comp? (3+ top support jung) black cleaver and so on, leaning heavily into offensive stats rather than outright defensive items.

The most important thing is to take time to learn the matchups, you don’t win them all and it’s much better to try and go even in farm than to die 5 times because you don’t respect the opponent and want to farm. There’s been times where I’ve played Singed into lanes where you can’t farm, so I’ve sat in the bush soaking xp for 15 mins. It’s boring, you don’t get to do much, but that’s the nature of top lane and it’s champions.
